Edit:
For anyone having troubles getting the VM to recognize one of the new XPro triggers, I had to try a lot of different cables before I found one that worked. Ultimately this cheap one on Amazon did the trick.

2 hours in and sacked it off, problems after every step and I thought I had the patience of a saint as well!
For anyone having trouble getting their X1TF to appear in the USB list, I had to dig through the readme's until I found that the batteries had to be removed when connecting to the computer.
Also note, X1TF is called STMicroelectronics DFU in the USB list. Thanks for this video!!
Great info! I didn’t test it with any of the triggers but it makes sense that it would work the same way. Glad it could help.
I am having issues with this as well. When I plug the X1TF trigger into my Mac it doesn't show up. I've tried removing the batteries and having it turned on or off. I have also looked through the 'Devices' menu as shown in the video, but still nothing. Any help would be appreciated, I'm largely just running in circles trying to find a solution and Godox tech support hasn't been too helpful.
Without looking at it I can't be certain of what the issue is. Make sure you're using the Godox G2 software. The Fuji trigger uses it instead of the G1 software like the rest of the X1T triggers.
Thanks for the response. I am definitely using the G2 software, so I'm lead to believe I may just have a faulty trigger, but until I hear back from Godox, I can't be certain. Thanks anyways.
I initially had the same trouble. But i just waited for a few minutes, I disconnected the USB cable and plugged it back into the trigger and then the option appeared. I guess it just needs a little patience. Great video. I was heartbroken when I couldn't use the AD600 with my XT-2. Super thanks to Ken for posting this video!
Whoa! After many hours of trying everything imaginable, I finally succeeded in upgrading my Godox my TT685-S flashes using a 5k iMac Late 2014 model running High Sierra, Virtualbox and a Microsoft Virtual Machine. Along the way, I also had to install OracleVM Virtualbox Extension Pack but I don't know if this was necessary since to achieve success, I eventually reverted back to USB 1.0 (in the Virtualbox settings). I had great difficulty with getting any flash to CONNECT with the iMac. In my case, it was absolutely essential to go to Virtualbox "Devices" (before launching the Microsoft Virtual Machine) and check "ATMEL DUF GODOX(0004)" for each flash I wanted to update (the check disappeared after upgrading a given flash and had to be re-selected). Also, once connected, I had to click the "Upgrade" button in the Godox install window for the actual update to occur - it did not do so as shown in the video. (This might not be necessary if upgrading via an actual Windows PC.) Anyway, after two days of disappointing struggle, I was about to give up but somehow got all of the "switches" appropriately aligned so, honestly, I don't know exactly which one did the trick to "connect." I had tried numerous microUSB cables and the one in use when I finally connected has a "barrel" in line but I really don't know if that mattered. I had seven TT685-S's to upgrade and once I saw one of them connect, I quickly upgraded the other six without additional experimentation. Bottom line: With persistence, it WILL work! Thanks to guy who posted this video but I ran into a fair number of issues not specifically covered. Note to Godox: There has GOT to be a better way of doing this!!! (I've been all-Mac for many years and now and completely unfamiliar with Windows -- this didn't help!)
Was it worth the update? I think I'm giving up now because I dont have hours.
Thanks DerDrache for the time you put into making this great tutorial!!! Worked perfect.
Only issue I ran into was a fail error on the .vmdk vbox import. To solve, I unchecked the CD drive option (as my imac doesn't have a CD drive) and then it imported as stated.
Makes sense! The joys of virtualization. Each hardware profile is going to have its own little idiosyncrasies. I appreciate the feedback.
Figured out the missing USB tab. Before you run virtual machine, you have to enable usb ports in virtual box first. So in virtual box, go to setting -> ports -> USB tab -> enable usb controller. Now you should see the usb tab in virtual machine. :)
that detail def needs to be in ken's video. as i am stuck on this part of the process
Hi mate - in my virtual box, this section is greyed out and I am unable to check the USB controller - are you able to help? Why is this the case?
this helped loads: ruclips.net/video/m-ZU0_Tg2nU/видео.html
This is too much damn work! Why wont they just support mac? UGH!
OMG, you are the best, you saved my day, I have just updated my Godox TT350f
This video saved me hours of time. >>>HOURS!!!!!
SAVED MY LIFE, THANK YOU
No problem! Glad it could help.
THANKS SO MUCH1, this was very useful
Excellent! thank you very much Ken!!
Thanks so much! I had an XPro controller I could not update on my PC and followed your instructions and I was able to do it on my MAC! Now I also have a bricked AD600 I'm trying to resurrect and hoping this will do the trick too. When I installed G1 and wanted to allow the Godox USB driver, it's not in the list of devices. I tried re-installing and same thing. Any suggestions?
Thank you for the tutorial. :)

Great video Ken. Thanks for sharing. After upgrading firmware, how can i uninstall virtual windows machine os to save on hard drive space?
There will be a new folder in your user home folder called VirtualBox VMs. You'll see a folder in there that you can delete or if you want you can delete the entire VirtualBox VMs folder if you don't plan on using them again soon. Since I'm running on a MacBook Pro with storage space at a premium I just move that folder to a slow USB external drive that I have and make sure I'm connected to that drive when it comes time to do a firmware upgrade.
thanks bro, emmm Have you ever had issues with HSS?, I can't go further 1/250 in my nikon d610 + AD600BM , even if I already set the 250 Auto FP function, I always having a little strip of light at the bottom of the sensor at different shutter speed and apertures 😰
Hmmm. Can’t say I’ve had any issues with HSS with either the speedlights or my AD600BM on either my Nikon D750 and D850 or my Fuji XT1 or XT2. I’m not sure if it’s the case with the D610 but I think on my Nikons there’s always a choice for the shutter speed that’s one over your actual sync speed with Auto FP as an option. I always choose that one instead of the native sync speed with Auto FP next to it. So on my D850 I have 1/320 (Auto FP) chosen instead of 1/250 (Auto FP) I’m not sure what native sync is though on the D610. Good luck, let me know if you figure it out!
Does anyone can tell me how to enable USB options, the same way he did it. It does not give me the otpion to allow the USB ports. Thanks
you have to go into settings in virtual box and turn on the usb ports BEFORE you start up the virtual machine. select usb 1.0 controller
@@RyanHirschberg-ryanhphoto I'm having the same issue. Wont let me ok the USB controller. At the bottom is says "invalid settings detected"
@@noahdyedotcom Yep! super frustrating. Let me know if you figure out a solution.
Drivers installed fine, but are not showing up under Devices. Ideas?
I'm trying to install the G1 and G2 Godox software on virtual box. When I click on the files to open/install them, I get a message asking what software I want to use to open them. They are .RAR files and I have no idea what is used to open them. Nor am I sure why this was not required when the poster of this video (erDDrache) did his install. Any help would be appreciated.
I had the same, you just have to download a .RAR reader / unzipper - I used Winzip which was a free one and it all worked fine to download the software from there
I found this was super helpful too: ruclips.net/video/m-ZU0_Tg2nU/видео.html
I got up to the point where I would have to connect to the driver but the DUF Godox driver isn’t appearing under my tab. Am I missing something?
Hello I am getting a failed error trying to install virtual box. I have tried newer and older versions. 17 MacBook Pro
I'd say reach out to Oracle/Virtual Box for installation errors.

Thank you for this video. My Godox V680IIO shipped with firmware v 1.2, which would not connect to the GH5. I spent an hour trying to get it to work through the camera menus and finally figured out that the Godox needed the firmware update. I tried following this video and came across your updated one - ruclips.net/video/m-ZU0_Tg2nU/видео.html. VirtualBox is now on V6 which does not respond to doubleclicking the downloaded files. I gave up and switched to V 5.2 which worked with the tutorial. Also, the Atmel USB setting did not show up until I switched USB cables four times. Then magically it appeared. Then the instructions finally worked - the whole process took me 2 hours to do the necessary troubleshooting, but I'm done. Now the flash works with the GH5. Honestly, I wish I didn't have to learn any of this... I wish the flash would work out of the box.
Virtualbox won't currently install on mac. Maybe a mojave problem?
Firstly, thank you so much for this great video - however, I am stuck : I remove the batteries from my Godox products and connect them to my Mac via Samsung USB. None are recognized by my mac, hence no "USB" menu is displayed in the "Devices" section of virtual box and no connection to my device is possible. Tried multiple USB cables and ports. Products TT685c / X1tc / Ad600B. PLEASE ASSIST !!!!!!
you need to turn on the usb ports in virtual box BEFORE starting up virtual machine. its a big detail that this video did not cover. hope this helps
Ok, so i was able to update one of my XPLOR 600TTL's by going through this process. I was also able to update my R2 for sony transmitter. now, i can't get my second xplor strobe to be seen in the usb list. any thoughts or suggestions?
After removing the power source from it, hit the test flash button once or twice to dump any remaining power from the capacitors. Sometimes you also just need to unplug it, plug it back in and try it again. Good luck!
Ken Falk hi Ken. I tried all of that several times. When you say unplug it and plug back in, you are talking about the USB cable right? I tried so many different cables and turning on light with battery, then dicharching and removing battery. Nothing would get it to be recognized in the USB list. Any other thoughts?
Hmm, sadly not really. If there's a USB hub in the mix, I'd eliminate it if at all possible. Let me know if you come up with anything as I expect someone else has the same problem too.
So much easier to buy into a high quality system than to update godox gear. All you sinners will go to godox hell. And suffer the pain of eternal update error. Vivitar and sunpak i miss you guys!
I have no idea if this is serious or not but it’s the funniest thing I’ve read in a long time. Thanks for the laugh!
I'm serious but excuse my sardonic tone if it shows too much. I have a Mac, a Nikon camera and an epson printer. I do not have to suffer from download or firmware updates with these products. Tony Northrup rolled his eyes before apologizing to anyone who had to do an update. A major Canadian godox reseller says you can brick the flashunit if you make a mistake trying to do an update. I was thinking about buying the flashpoint evolv 200. then i read about the firmware hell i faced. I only have one question.
Godox why the Digital Waterboarding when it comes to your software?
I'm getting an "Installation failed" when trying to install Virtual Box on my MacBook Pro 15" High Sierra 10.13.3. The first time it asked me to open System Preferences to allow something but I didn't manage to figure out what.
Does anyone have solution to this error?
Found the fix here: apple.stackexchange.com/questions/301303/virtualbox-5-1-28-fails-to-install-on-macos-10-13-due-to-kext-security
Yep, this is a new step since a recent update to VirtualBox. Not too difficult but as you can see can be frustrating if you’re not familiar with setting up exceptions.
How do you get Dropbox onto your Windows?
Or...How do I get the firmware onto my Windows desktop?
From within the Windows VM you just install Dropbox like you normally would. Go to dropbox.com and hit the download link. Same for the firmware. Go to the Godox/Flashpoint site and save the files to your Dropbox folder and it will sync between any machine that has it installed.
My VM does not have IE to browse to Dropbox. Is this some error in installation?
I followed instructions step by step. Got dialog box that showed device drivers were successfully installed. Then I went to accomplish the “very important “ step but Godox drivers aren’t showing in USB devices...there is nothing to select. Any fixes for this?
Figured out the missing USB tab. Before you run virtual machine, you have to enable usb ports in virtual box first. So in virtual box, go to setting -> ports -> USB tab -> enable usb controller. Now you should see the usb tab in virtual machine. :)
I tried this, it is not an option. They are greyed out.
I have same problem
Solve ! try to change cable - and reboot windows - in my case - did help
Hi - I am trying to update my X1TF so I can use it with the Fuji X100F, is the correct firmware update called: Godox_X1TF_V03.rar ? Do I also need to update with the G2 update firmware? The other problem I am having is the windows virtural computer not opening this file - it keeps taking me to the explorer media center? Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks!!
Good morning Liz, RAR is the compressed format they offer the download in. You’ll need to uncompress it using WinRAR or 7zip or some other suitable utility for it to display the proper file type.
Check the Godox firmware download page for JD you need to use the G1 or G2 updater for your respective product. The process is effectively the same with both updates. Hope this helps!
I am not really great at using Windows. Can I unzip the file on the Mac and upload the unzipped file to dropbox and get the file on the Windows side from dropbox?
Yep! That’s exactly what I do.
Really appreciate your help! How would I get the ATMEL USB choice to show up in the dropdown menu under devices? That one does not show up. Thanks!!
It looks like for the X1TF you’re looking for something listed as STMMICROELECTRONICS DFU. Each device might have a different name. It just depends on what firmware board Godox used for that respective product.
Errors installing Virtual Box......oh well.
