    What's it like attempting to get employed on a superyacht? What happens when you get a job, what is the process? What happens once you join, where do you get your uniform from?
    Also how can a superyacht crew employed by a billionaire have to wait 4-6 months for their salary? Especially when he's spending millions on his yacht?

      I have always been lucky to have behind me a little money that if necessary I could leave a job if I don't get paid. My Mother told me when I started working to build up a three month nest egg to cover such eventualities. I only had to use it once, I wasn't paid at the end of the month, gave the Boss 1 week to sort it out he didn't so I walked. Funny story he contacted me about 6 months later begging me to re-join his company as he was losing staff and business and the reason was his poor payment record not just to staff but suppliers. Needless to say I told him NO and told him if he got his act together and paid what he owed properly and on time he might have a successful business, instead of squandering his income on himself and his Ego building toys.

    Please do a video on visas. Does the crew always know the destiny of a voyage? And does a crew need visas? How, what, when, by whom, etc?

    • @Bill_N_ATX
      @Bill_N_ATX 6 месяцев назад +4

      Yes, crews usually know destinations although sometimes not in great specificity. Just depends on the owner and their circumstances and schedule. They might also change. Visas depend upon both your nationality, where you are going, and how long and /or what you are doing there. The ship management company will handle these. They have agents that know more than we can ever imagine about the ins and outs of a country and what is required. And how to expedite any paperwork etc.

      @@user-zp7jp1vk2i Absolutely! Fear does not motivate, Fear will only Intimidate and never Inspires other(s) to make your goal also their goal. It becomes a Threat, I'm working for you because I have to, not because it's what I want. Gone is any Trust, Loyalty, Respect, Motivation towards you. People NEVER forget feeling Threatened. Ultimately, the outcome will be negative. A successful Leader/Manager knows to Encourage will Motivate and Inspire others to want to work for/with you towards successful outcomes. Hell in the US Army, 6 months with no pay. The only way I got paid was knowing the NCO in charge of finance for all the reserves in Europe. Instead of putting the paperwork in at our PAC for the Battalion. I put in for the extension of service when I extended at Ft Hood, left for Europe, got sent to a unit that was deployed and deployed to them shortly after that, spent almost a year with them deployed waited 4 more months, then no pay. For the next 5 months put in paperwork and nothing. Always interesting who you run into and have known before. I knew him years before and somehow, I had run into him again.

Although you mentioned that the purser gives the flight details, I did not hear if the company also paid for these tickets. Curious if every employee is like a flight attendant, does one job during the day, but needs all the training on what to do in case of fire, accident, sinking. evacuation etc or whether some are just doing simple jobs and are not involved in disasters ?
    (You mentioned young 19-21 years olds who get deck hand, and wondering if they need specialty training prior to applying or f they get on-the-job training for such low level jobs). (or waiters/bartenders whose work is akin to running a hotel , not a ship).

      The NDA includes that you aren't allowed to mention which vessel you are working on as well. Yachts often turn their AIS off in port, rich people are secretive.

    If you're employed on a yacht, what employment laws apply? From which country?

      Employment laws would be the flag state.

      @@YachtReport I suppose those states don't have laws around when employers are suppose to pay employees

    Just because the owner has pushed the responsibility over to a management company, it does not absolve the owner of the responsibility. All the employees work because of the owner and he is the person in charge. If the owner is not aware of what is happening between the management company and the crew, he cannot intervene either. The one who was fired was probably not by the owner but by the management company, because it emerged that they did not deliver their service as agreed! If I was the owner and found out that the crew didn't get paid, I would fire the management company the same day! The crew is my security when I'm on board my yacht!

    Sorry, but I cant agree with your comments about hiring engineering crew. Your comments are only appropriate to a niche segment in the Yachting industry in terms of size. The hiring process in a 30m yacht is entirely different to that of a 160m yacht.
    eSysman come from the Merchant Marine where the Management company sends new crew. The Captain has sod-all input. The same applies to Military forces - you get what is sent. In a very large superyacht the Engineer is very experienced and capable. In a very small superyacht he is not. Where he is not, that Captain does the hiring and firing. So you insinuation that where the Captain does the hiring is a red flag - is utter bollox. The captain might be effiing good at selecting the right crew.

      Well firstly he said in the video that not all yachts are like that, just in his experience. The rest of what you said is untrue: on a large yacht the management company doesn't just send people to a yacht with the yacht having no input, that is 100% false.
      That happens in the military yes, but not on yachts, not at all.

      @nSuperYachts I said that Merchant Marine companies send new crew. That is where the captain has no input. I didn't indeed for it to inferred or implied that the Captain of a Superyacht has no input. Sorry for the confusion. I was a Master for 15 years. MLC2006 should have sorted out the pay issues, but that only helps to commercially registered vessels. You appear to have been unlucky with your pay. I have had crew members who have received pay a few days late but the problems have been caused by the transfer system.
