- In this video, we explore Dundee's abandoned port authority headquarters, once one of the largest harbour offices in Scotland, dating back to the mid 1800s. The two buildings contain old features preserved despite their city-centre location.

Liking the new intro? Which places that we haven’t posted yet do you want to see?
what was that support thing on his neck in the intro?
Nothing in specific, but I like seeing power stations and other industrial buildings/sites. Keep up the good work!
EDIT: I like the new intro! Love keeping the original music but changing the clips year over year as you do more explores!
@@haveyoueverwondered23 that wasn’t the intro the lads were referring too but looks like one of those travel pillows
The intro is definitely improved and so is your editing. Good job.
Love the new intro...for me keep doing what you do, everything is of interest, you show me places I will never get to see myself
It’s currently getting renovated into flats at the moment so it’s great to see someone document the interior before it’s all gutted, but at least the building will be saved
Work has stopped sure it's up for sale again 😩 hope doesn't sit for ages again
The developers went out of business sadly. Hopefully it doesn't disappear in a "freak fire" as so many old Dundee buildings do to make way for dreary, pre fab flats.
Born and bred in Dundee and pass this building almost every day. I wondered what it looked like inside.
Great video lads. I live 35 miles north of here and had my business in Dundee for many years and have passed this building many many times and never really gave it a second thought until now. What an outstanding building it must have been in its day and it would be a shame to see it get demolished like many of Dundee's older buildings. Got to also say the quality of your productions and editing just keeps getting better with every video as your new intro shows. Thanks lads.
You can't be that far off where I live then.
So is it still empty? I believe planning consent has been granted to convert the buildings into apartments?
Appreciate that massively, thank you!
Loved your video!!! Still a Dundonian through and through, but have lived in Los Angeles for 60 years. Oh the memories….
You can take the girl out of Dundee but never Dundee out of the girl!
I love this building and have always been curious about the inside. Thank you for filming this beautiful listed building 🙋🏻♀️
Love these buildings! Not just built for utility, but designed with pride and attention to detail.
Really great work as always guys!
Totally, the exterior is arguably the best feature in our opinion, but details retained throughout.
seeing this makes me mourn the loss of the old abandoned furniture store that burnt up last november in the city centre. knowing that that building couldve held some lovely little secrets like this is really unfortunate to think about. its been months since the council knocked down the remains of the building and now its just a caged up spread of land covered in gravel.
I drive past that building every day and often wondered what it looked like inside. Thank you so much for sharing this video.
Glad we could help ease your curiosity :)
Used to pass those safes regularly on the way to my Dad's office
Great explore, guys! Nice job as always. Your backstory and commentary during the explore is alway so approproiate. Minimal "statement-of-the-obvious" as many others do, just great comments. It all makes for such an enjoyable experience. Great work! Can't wait for the next one.
We try not to! Sometimes, our walkthroughs are quite 'captain obvious!'
I remember this building always looked empty, even before it actually stopped being used in 2008. The windows were dirty and I never saw anybody going in or out. But then every December, without fail, a lit Christmas tree would appear on the first floor balcony between the columns.
That fireplace needs to be rescued!
Looked like a lovely Dundonian Summers Day, great video
This place should be preserved.
Thank you wanted to see inside that place for years
Loved both buildings, would be great to see them put to use and given a new lease of life. Hopefully the original features will be preserved too, great watch as always...
We really hope so, glad you enjoyed seeing the properties
That was a beautiful building I have no idea why the Council is letting it go to ruin
I’ve always wanted to see inside this building since I was a kid. I used to have a flat at the Quay and drove past this building every day to get to and from my flat. Next door to this building is an apex hotel which for a good while was the most luxurious hotel in the centre of Dundee. When Malmaison announced they were going to open a hotel in the city, they showed interest in this building but believing Malmaison would take a chunk of their custom and probably because once renovated, it would be a better option for visitors. So the Apex bought the building stating they were going to expand their hotel into the property creating a boutique style hotel. Once the sale had gone through, apex did absolutely nothing with it. They didn’t even maintain it. Prior to this, the building still look relatively usable from the outside but the apex wanted it to go to ruin in my opinion. FYI Malmaison weren’t deterred and purchased a bigger property just down the street which used to be the old Tay hotel. It’s now being turned into a gated community of apartments. Doubt much of it will be recognisable once it’s done. Just some further info for anyone that wants it.
Thanks for sharing this, we had no clue!
Great to see a video from my home town!
Always enjoy your videos. Your editing etc is brilliant and I love how you give some history of the buildings you go to. Keep up the great work lads 😎
Means a lot - cheers!
Those "simplex" mechanical door locks are sometimes default code by pressing 2 &4 at same time then press 3. Turn knob .
Or a large rare earth magnet to the side of housing will unlock it every time...
Great video! 👍🏼
Totally fascinating guys.
Welcome to my home town boys!
Hi That was another excellent video showcasing two magnificent buildings. I really enjoyed this video and what a great job you did in documenting both buildings so well. Thanks for making this video.
Can't beat a pigeon supper
Fresh one waiting (14:28) for its turn on the grill as well! :-))
Rip pimgin
Deep fried with a bottle of irn bru
Also love the new intro video clips
Cheers another great professional video - really well done! Mark.
Thanks a lot!
Great stuff as ever. would love to see some more Scottish locations
We have more, but trying to keep a balance with other countries/areas
Amazing
Used to go to a jobclub from jobcentre in custom house in 90s
1955, that's when I was born, feeling old now.
My birth year too! 😂
@@patriciarussell756 Quality! 🙂
Explored this place many times and never found the custom house part of it searched top to bottom never came across it
It would be good to rebuild as hotel or restaurant. It big enough for hotel plus restaurant that would boost tourism and beside city Quay...
Is that a hospital in the intro? Looks interesting...
This place in Dundee is beautiful, your photos of it on insta are stunning - great explore
Indeed...
I would give anything to sit around the campfire with ya. The stories this dude must have.
Another great video , sadly I’m sure if it’s ever redeveloped they will rip out all the beautiful woodwork and features…if this building was in Edinburgh for sure it would get a great 2 nd life.
Such a grand building from the outside. It would be great if someone would repurpose it
Noticed bathtubs twice. Is that common to find in old buildings?
What did they do in that huge building back in the day.
thats just how the victorians built things , go into a victorian sewage works and you will find similar oppulance
Exactly, when he said at 4:52 that he can't understand why a harbour master would need such architecture it showed his lack of knowledge of history, something I assumed urban explorers would have an interest in. In the 1800's everything was built by the best to look the best, none of this "lowest bidder" crap that plagues the world now.
Function with form, how it was and should still be
Love
Also, did you happen to get into the old arnotts department store? Which was later split up with a large portion of it being turned into a Zara? That closed during the pandemic and was used as a vaccine centre. The building is actually huge and although the lower parts are stores. The upper levels are untouched from the arnotts days. The name escapes me night now but it was a department store when it first opened and had an Edwardian cafe that is huge. Once arnotts opened, the cafe was sealed off and left untouched. It’s still there untouched to this day. This is another building/partial building I’ve wanted to see all my life. Tbh most of the old buildings in the centre of Dundee are vacant above ground level. There must be so much history and features just sat there.
DM Browns
They're not coves, they are cornices. Done by plasterers.
This is currently under conversion to flats
it's almost regal on the outside.
What's with the horrible screeching soumds like bats in back ground? Surely soumd editor can do better?
Time stamp?
This old building is in my home town which I stay in and at the moment it’s being cleaned out and is in progress to be turned into flats. It’s a great video of the inside of such an iconic building in Dundee. It’s just a pity our local brain dead, scumbag, vandals don’t think the same way, and just like to destroy and trash our old abandoned buildings because it’s the only way they get there kicks and they don’t know any better ways to amuse themselves..
Thanks 👍
