Derek Anderson: The RESILIENT Career Story of an ORIGINAL TEAM JORDAN Member | FPP

- While no member of Michael Jordan’s Original Team Jordan had particularly remarkable careers (outside of Ray Allen), Derek Anderson’s might be the most forgotten; and at face value, it makes sense as the numbers don’t jump out at you. But, Anderson went through an incredibly difficult childhood, then after beginning his college career with the Ohio State Buckeyes, before tearing his ACL as a sophomore. He would then transfer to Kentucky to play with the likes of Antoine Walker, Tony Delk and Ron Mercer on the team dubbed “The Untouchables” by head coach Rick Pitino. Anderson played a major role in the Kentucky Wildcats 1996 NBA Championship, but unbelievably would tear his other ACL as a senior. Even so, Anderson would become a first round pick and go on to play in the NBA for over a decade, teaming with the likes of Shawn Kemp, Lamar Odom, Tim Duncan and Rasheed Wallace. While he was never able to be a consistent player, he was a shot creator and a phenomenal slasher, and if he got close enough to the rim, he was going to try to dunk on whoever was in his way, as he was often times successful. His best years were spent with the Portland Trailblazers during their Jailblazers era, yet he would also spend a solid year with the San Antonio Spurs earlier in his career; and would even win an NBA Championship with the Shaq and D Wade Miami Heat in 2006. Anderson’s career is remembered, and maybe more so forgotten now for what it was, but it should be remembered for what it could have been in more than one way. As his physical gifts and resiliency could have seen him become great had it not been for his constant injuries, yet the adversity he dealt with could have also seen him abandon basketball and go down a much worse path. And even if one can’t appreciate Derek Anderson’s on court career, you have to appreciate his story.

Him not playing in the 1997 NCAA Championship cost Kentucky yet another National Title.
I agree with you on this he was the X Factor on the 96 and 97 teams
I've said that for decades
Derek Anderson at Kentucky was the sh!t
Met him after he retired promoting his book. Great and humble guy!
Thanks Champ
Yes! Definitely underrated player. Thank you for covering him👏👏. It'd be pretty neat for your videos to be included in the 2k series.
That first dunk was crazy
I remember him for his time on the Spurs.
When he came to SA he was a big shot in the arm. We hadn't had such a high flyer on the wing during the early championship runs.
Yeah, super athletic. DA was dope with the Spurs
Disappointed he didn't want to stay. Dumb move going to Portland
i completely forgot DA was in that miami title roster in 06. so in a span of a decade walker and anderson won an ncaa and nba title.
Yes...Perfect choice to cover!
Derek Anderson is the best underrated player of all time
Kobe was guarding him....all I see in the highlights is him scoring on Kobe. RIP Mamba
Buck Williams, please
this is my boy DA, i had to send this video to him
Good lookin bro
@officialderekanderson you already know 💪🏽
Straight from my hood watched him play alot as a kid in Algonquin Park
Yessir! We had some Games back then too.
I used to like Juwan Howard until he undercut Anderson and messed up his shoulder. That was the biggest ho move next to Malone elbowing Zeke in the eye. Anderson was starting to go crazy that season.
D.A & T.MAC HAD THE SMOOTHEST GREENLIGHTS EVER.😢
Have you done Bobby Phills😢?
That 96' Kentucky squad that won the national championship was one of the best ever. They had 7 guys off that team that played in the NBA. D.Anderson was underrated!
Damn bro I love this channel. You got some good picks. Derek was really good.
Favorite player at Kentucky those were the days
Can you do rick mahorn please?
100+ million player if he played in todays era DA is legit
I know bro. I was born too early LOL!!
one of my fav players back then. I really wished he woulda stayed in San Antonio longer. Those matchups vs Kobe woulda been epic
DA was my favorite player growing up
Thank you 😊
I am a content creator myself and I played some pick up ball against Anderson up at OSU, he was nice. Nice to hear his story and you a very good at what you do. Subscriber here and will spread the word. Salutes
Please do Cliff Robinson. He's even neglected on series like yours.
DA‼️ ONE OF THE SMOOTHEST PLAYERS TO EVER PLAY‼️
Thanks man!
I was excited when the Cavs drafted him. We didn't understand the trade at the time, but then again, the front office was grasping at anything during that era.
Great story after Derek’s parents abandoned him, but his half sister dying due to violence is heartbreaking. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
😱😱 wow. That UK roster was stacked!!!
Man, there might have been a world where the Spurs could have stopped the Lakers in the early 2000s if DA stayed over there.
One of my favorite players all time
His dunks on people heads were nuthing but pure evil /; viciousness
NO Fear lol
Dude was a legit hooper
Highly talented in my opinion was the final factor in helping UK win in 96 and when they lost in 97 because I don't see Arizona beating UK with Anderson in the lineup. I was able to see the 97 UK squad come through Salt Lake City Utah in round 1/2 they were vastly better than every team there hands down
I agree lol
Great channel man.✊🏾 keep up the good work and dope content 💯
ORIGINAL TEAM JORDAN
I watched every video on your channel I just have one request can you please do Reggie Miller
Can you do Brad Miller? Love the vids. Watched the Odom one, Big Dog one and Juwan Howard one and will continue to watch many more having just discovered your channel. Keep it up.
Solid piece of work as per your norm. Please try to do a vid on:
Kerry kittles
Charles Smith
Pooh Richardson
Arvidis Sabonis
Drazen Petrovich
Mo Peterson
I remember I thought he was gonna be a big star
AYYYYEEE DA!!! A SUPER REAL DUDE HUMBLE DOWN TO EARTH PERSON MET HIM AT DERBY BRO HAD ALL HIS TOYS OUT ND MADE TIME TO SAY WHATS UP TO MY MAMA WHO I CALLED ON MY PREPAID CELLY 😂
Haha That's hilarious bro. Much Respect J
Derek Anderson was the original JR Smith. He was JR Smith before JR Smith
Derek Anderson Was Da 💩
Mane can we please get Penny Hardaway and Todd Day
Injuries have been a cancer to many dreams......
Do a episode on Elden Campbell
Stacy Augmon please
❤
💯
Walter McCarty would be a good video
Glad he got a title. Dude might have been a bit bad with contract stuff, but a good nba player for nearly a decade. Come backs werent easy for him.
They made a lie up about that contract. They offered 4 for 28 and then put out that 43M statement. I'm like that was what I ASKED for and even took a 1 year deal for 2M when I could have signed that year. Trust me these GMs lie more than politicians lol
DA was better off staying with the Spurs, fucin Juan Howard injured him in that playoff vs Dallas
I believe that was a Dirty play by Howard... it was like 10 seconds left in the 1st quarter that wasn't necessary .. the series had just begun
Derek “Cadillac” Anderson
WRONG. That was Greg CADILLAC Anderson… a big man/ role player. Derek was Derek.
@@PetrodollarDealEndedSoWakeUp : Thanks my guy.. BRICS SET.
You know what’s going on
Is he related to Kyle Anderson?
TJ Ford is somebody you should do a video on
I see you used the word "remarkable" but eddie jones and mike fin had really good careers imo.
Please do Ben Gordon next
Can you do Chris Mullin too
Those denim jerseys Kentucky wore in 96 were horrible.
Spurs probably win the title in 2001 if Juwan Howard doesn't injure him in the playoffs
Remember that he dislocated his shoulder it was a pretty nasty fall
Lee Mayberry
Todd day ,eric murdock
James Posey
Unfortunately Anderson didn’t invent the 11 low as MJ wore them in the 96 finals game 1
I didn't event those but I started wearing low cuts from the other shoes. Just the idea was mine not his line.
James Flight White next m
?
Pooh Richardson or I'm unsubscribing!!!!
Ron Mercer lfg 🔥
