My computer specs:
32g ram
i9
geforce 2080 RTX super
SSD HD
Sweeeeettt
I have similar specs, but I'm on a 2080ti and an i7 8700K. But I do software development on a mac mini lol
OK. Now I am jealous after looking at your specs.
Mitch Tabian, a "fairly competitive gamer"
Thank you for the review, I also have a TN monitor atm and your review has been very helpful since I also play fast-paced competitive games and fps. I'm really trying to find a responsive IPS monitor, but I guess I'll have to keep looking. Keep up the good work!
think its fair to say this guy doesn't know too much about monitors, he seems to even be using information from his phone to tell us the pro's and cons of the monitors and still gets them mixed up. you certainly don't get great contrast from an IPS monitor, the strongest for contrast is VA... by a long way, VA doesn't have the pixel response times though so you usually get some kind of ghosting, particularly in darker images. he's also under the impression he is playing at 1ms and 5ms response times, that's just not true, no monitor on the market offers a true G2G 1ms response time, and if a manufacturer states a response time of 5ms you can be sure its probably a slow panel, probably closer to 10ms response times wheras the ''1ms'' monitor was more like 4ms at best overall. there was also no mention of which overdrive settings were used on the IPS, looking at some other reviews like those at Rtings it seems the best setting oddly is the fastest overdrive setting called premium, so maybe give that a try and response times should speed up quite a lot, this is contrary to what would be the norm for most monitors since too high an overdrive causes other issues but it seems not to be the case with this one.
id be pissed if I was BenQ for sponsoring this video, although you gave an honest view of your experience, it seems you didn't really dig deep enough to see what the monitor could actually do and thus its a bit misleading. also im not in any way a benQ fanboy of any sort I own an Alienware AW3420DW and an asus PG279Q myself, I simply came looking for reviews since a friend asked me about this monitor and here I am.
ah well.
Yeah, I gotta say I was a little confused when he started correlating his in-game settings (med, high, ultra, etc) to actual monitor (hardware) function
What I can really appreciate about this review is the honesty so thank you for just being upfront about your opinions on this monitor.
I'm curious to know about what settings (bandwidth uptake) you were using when you tested the monitor on its response time.
Because the bandwidth consumption for 144hz, 10-bit at 1440p is very high and maybe higher than your graphics card. Also were you using gsync or freesync as that might be another reason why the performance was not as smooth?
I was expecting a review regarding using the monitor for coding as well, how does it compare to code in one of those, also do you think a great pc makes it easier to code? I like to work with two monitors and dozens of tabs open all the time, I have a pretty good laptop but I was thinking of building a desktop with a great graphic card and last gen ryzen cpu
Android studio and video editing is very demanding so having a powerful computer helps
Could you please do a dedicated video on your desk/work setup please😅
I could probably do that
which monitor would you recommend for a cs college student? i need a solid monitor that is budget friendly but at the same time easy on the eyes for long periods of time
If it's an fps game imo you need 1 ms. So a TN monitor with 1ms and 144hz.
Hello Mitch!, what are the specs of your computer?
32g ram, i9, geforce 2080 RTX super
How abt the clarity for Coding/Text ?
I bought this monitor and i play apex legends on my laptop compared with this monitor , there is some issues with my resolution its not smooth to play and i dont no how to fix it im thinking on sending it back to the store .. 😞
For a fair comparison you would have to lock the fps. More fps means a newer picture is being displayed on the monitor. That's why you can't just compare the response time of an hd and wqhd monitor. (you get more fps on the hd monitor) To try this you should enable v-sync on your hd monitor and compare it to when it is disabled. There should be a difference. You probably don't feel the 4ms.
In order to make a fair comparison between the 2 monitors you have to get above 144fps at all time and enable v-sync.
crispy video.
There's a lot of blatant misinformation in this video which is a huge problem considering this is a review aimed at helping consumers make informed purchasing decisions. At 3:35, you say that IPS panels have the best contrasts and the best resolutions. This is untrue. VA panels have the best contrast ratios by far (3000 - 6000:1 on VA vs 1000:1 on IPS). IPS panels have marginally better contrast ratios than TN panels (800:1 on TN), but certainly not the best. Also screen resolution is independent from panel technology. You can get a TN, IPS, or VA panel at any resolution.
VA panels have the best contrast ratios but the worst response times making them terrible for fast-pace, competitive gaming but ideal for slower-paced, single-player games where deep blacks can significantly enhance the experience (think Hellblade or Resident Evil (or any horror game really)). Idk why you would bring them up and then completely neglect to mention their pros and cons.
Speaking of response times, a monitor's response time has nothing to do with the lag or "choppiness" of gameplay. The response time is a measure of how fast the monitor's pixels can transition colors which is important for fast-paced content like games or sports. Monitors with higher response times will have more motion blur and "ghosting" during fast-paced action that can be distracting for sensitive users but it doesn't affect the actual performance of the game.
More than likely what happened with your gameplay footage was that you were running Apex at the native resolution of 1440p on the EX2780Q and 1080p on your old TN monitor. A lower resolution is easier for your GPU to run, leading to higher frame rates and smoother feeling gameplay. That's also why the gameplay was smoother on the EX2780Q when you lowered the graphical settings to medium.
This. I want to appreciate the man's honesty on a sponsored video, but yeah, he overlooked these things.
Thank you for your honest review, truly helpful!

Worth it?
I show you everything you need in the course
We have very different definitions of "unplayable"
😂
You said your old monitor 1 ms. is it gray to gray 1 ms???
Something's wrong with your PC lol. Also you should have tried them both at 1080P to make it fair. Your PC will struggle more at 1440P.
Yeah it didn't make sense to me. Not sure what could be wrong though
you like competing, do you do competitive programming?
I dont do that
What is the complete cost of your setup 👀
$3200 for tower. 1 ms monitor was $300
Why didn't you enable Freesync ?
I have an Nvidia gpu
@@codingwithmitch gsync works with this monitor, just have to manually turn it on since it isn't "certified compatible" by Nvidia
@@theorist5497 lol he's a computer engineer and doesn't even know that??? HAhaha wow
Nice Mitch didnt know that 1 to 5ms Made the difference
I thought it would be fine but it really bothered me
It makes sense, same as the response of the mouse
Mitchell is a good looking guy
I won't argue your dissatisfaction because it is subjective and I'm sure correct, but do you realize your video card is doing 80% more work to drive 1440p and moving 80% more signal to the monitor? This makes it hard to conclude the problem is the 5ms spec. The 2080 Super is a great card, but is physics if it has 80% more to do. Would be better to do a three way comparison that includes a 1440P TN. Did you use a DP 1.4 cable to the benq or HDMI? DP 1.4 has slightly higher bandwidth and could help.
Like it on watch, help the algorithm.
You have a beast PC. I think the lag you experienced can be because of software and drivers. Update your graphic card driver and windows.
It is all up to date
@@codingwithmitch It's weird
I think he's using wireless keyboard

@@codingwithmitch that's why it feels choppy
I'm gonna add you on apex PC
you look very good
😘
I see all review by your thumbnail expression lol. ie confusing
how many times did you have to say that you are a 'competitive gamer' !!!!!
He's part of faze
Wow we don't know thta
No tell us when to play
Fortnite, pubg, or apex, or cs go
Dude, monitor response time doesn't mean what you think it means.
Through him the best 144hz 1440p lg gl850, he will still reject it
1440p is 2,5k
