I'm not a Christian and I'm not particularly interested in music recording, but this video showed up on my RUclips home page, and for some reason I clicked on it. I AM always interested in listening to thoughtful, articulate people who are striving to live lives of integrity. You seem to profoundly understand that the beginning of wisdom starts with three words: "I don't know." This is an excellent, eminently worthwhile video.
The immortal question "who is Barry Johns?" has been answered. Thank you sir! Much admiration.

I am not Christian or even a religious person but I think that if more religious people had your outlook on how to approach others, I think non religious people would have a more open and accepting, optimistic perspective. I appreciate your opinion and perspective and respect you for not trying to use this platform to push a belief on others under false pretenses like some people do. I never would have thought about your faith and religious beliefs watching your videos and as you alluded to, it has nothing to do with audio engineering and music education. I do think that as an important part of who you are and being a big part of your life, it was nice of you to share that with us as I when you put yourself out there It helps us to know you a little bit better and make a personal connection. You seem like a very honest man and I appreciate the time you take out of your life to share your knowledge with everyone here. I just wanted to say thank you.
Remember Jack Joseph Puig, one of the finest engineers of all time, started his career in Christian music (Amy Grant, The Archers, Phil Keaggy, Steven Curtis Chapman, White Heart, Michael W. Smith, Jars of Clay, Sweet Comfort Banc, Russ Taff, etc.). Many of the studios, engineers, producers, and session musicians in Nashville work on Christian music as well as secular music.

I've been following and watch this channel for about 2 years, and it is clear that you are genuine, honest and knowledgeable. I too have a RUclips channel, and we both know that most people have no idea of the work that goes into creating these videos, coming up with ideas, and speaking intelligently about the subject. Most times, you can tell who is just doing it to try and get more followers and who does it because they have a true passion for their craft.

Some elements of your life are meant to be private, not public. You don’t owe strangers on the internet explanations on your music. Share what you want and or need to share. Those who don’t understand, won’t. They can find a channel that better serves their needs.

The humility shown here says a lot about you. I was once told you may be the only Bible someone reads, meaning how you live your life causes them to question you why you live that way. For me, the only reason I ask to hear some of your mixes is I like your approach to studio work , and like your knowledge of gear and your collection of gear at your space , so naturally I want to here them drums punch , them guitar tones , how you treat your mix bus. Etc. so not everyone is a troll , some just want to hear some smoking mixes … just because we like ya ! Fath first !!! Love it .

Great episode mr Johns. I'm a Christian and It encourages me when other Christians talk about their faith...as this episode did. Actually, i personally wished more people talked about their faith as i believe thats the problem today in Christianity. The gospel is not for everyone but our job as Christians is to spread the gospel.
Mark 5:14-16
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 “Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 “Let your light so shine before men, †that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Thank you for sharing that message. I find it sad that people seem to want to throw Christians mistakes in their face as an attack. Being a Christian we know we are flawed and we also know we are far from perfect. Being Christian does not mean we hate people, we are to love people and be against sin which can strike a hard balance. Keep spreading the joy of music and love.
People need to start accepting creativity and therefore music for what it is. In the 80s and even the 90s, Christian music crossed over to the mainstream and people didn’t even know they were listening to Christian music. They were getting sent positive messages through heavy rock ‘n’ roll and alternative, and never even knowing the messages they were receiving. Yet still enjoying the music. Bands like Stryper and Creed are great examples.
Today, it seems people are judging each other at alarming rates, before they ever get to know the human being behind the stones they’ve already thrown. It makes me sad, because people like you, me, and I’m sure a lot of your viewers are very down to earth, fun loving, decent people… Who just want to be around others the same. But trying to weed through the bad, to find the good, seems to envelope so much time that people have given up.
It’s channels like yours that bring these people together. Through the love of music and making music, that make a difference and allow people to interact from around the globe. It doesn’t matter what their race, creed or religion is. We gather for the love of the topic and sharing information, which allows human beings to connect and find common ground to start relationships they never thought they would ever have.
So be proud and hold your head high. Because your channel just isn’t a great resource for those of us who love to make music, it’s a wonderful gathering of great people who want to learn and teach each other how to be better producers, Musicians, and ultimately… Human beings. Whether you share your music or not, is inconsequential. Because the knowledge that you are giving people, especially those starting out, will allow them to share their music and your advice to so many others.
There’s no such thing as perfection. We all are students our entire lives. We are fed information and repeat it to those who aren’t already in the know. Be happy and proud that you are one of those people spreading the information that will ultimately end up helping others through others. Our measurement of success in life shouldn’t be that of money or gained objects or fame… it should be the lasting impression of those we touch and surround us on our dying day.
Keep doing what you do.

Hi Barry, you do a good job on your channel. Remember people who truly have love and inner peace will not spend time judging people. We might not agree on certain things but we all have our own life journey. We should respect that.
Praise The Lord, sir. I have been recording/mixing/mastering since 1976, for a while at a high level, and all I record for myself anymore is Southern Gospel and Christmas music. The business of music is horrid.

Music can be inspiring, up lifting, and moving. Religious doctrine and specific Christian dogmas can be very onerous, and burdensome. If we can't do one on one discipleship, and truly live some version of our faith, through honest direct communication, then it is best to keep personal insights private .( don't cast your pearls down before the feet of those who would crush them to dust.) your honest efforts can and do inspire me , thanks Berry !

Makes sense. I've been developing a split personality--learning about music production and desiring to help others VERSUS my own production of my own music. Everything I've learned from you is spot-on. Big part of the reason I've invested $12k on RME gear to supplement a lot of vintage tube. Recently I've started dabbling in live streaming and some of the videos you did, like the ones on TotalMix, have helped me comprehend the whole loopback thing. The honesty from serving a higher cause shines through clearly. Rock on...

OK thanks for the explanation however I watched the video you referenced and toward the end of that video you said you consider it criminal for somebody not to share what they’ve learned. I think the same is true when you don’t share the work, you’ve done musically as an engineer. so I guess that means you don’t want to hang out with me because I want to hear your work. That’s really too bad. If you are as obsessed as you say you are I’m sure your engineering skills are great. Why not share your work? it’s not a badge of honor. It’s not bragging. You’re just helping the community. something to think about Barry…
