Wow. When I was a kid I tried to learn how to play this piece by ear, withiut any sheet or teacher, and I just realized I’ve nailed it. I always wondered if I was playing the right keys, and I was. Although only the right hand, I never figured the left tho. But not bad for a kid 😂

Dear Jane, I watched the video of you teaching the fur Elise in slow motion, which is great quality to help learners like me to learn how to play the favourite sound tracks. However, I just want to ask a question, there are some part of the track why on the same notes, you change your fingers to press on them? or even using fingers on the left hand under the right hands? Is there any purposes of it? I watched other play and they do the same thing, I have no idea or answer to this why???? (Silly me????? I found it confused and funny however I am curious and serious want to know.) Please can you explain to further my understanding and confusing? Thanks.
Dear Nguyen Mai, your question is not at all silly. The answer would be clear if one were following the score (sheet music). It tells us which hand to use. You can download a free copy on IMSLP. The hand positions enable better continuity and does make it more fun to watch. Hope you will study my sight-reading lessons. Then practice reading at least 5 minutes a day, that’s the only way to get better at it.

"Für Elise" was actually published some 40 years after Beethoven's death. It's popularity stems from the fact that it's an easy piece and parents are delighted to have their children play Beethoven in front of their friends... :)))
As easy as it is technically that piece can be butchered if played without highlighting its different contrasting parts and its various nuances especially in the middle part.
As of its popularity, I know many composers were upset by the fact people showed excessive interest to works they considered less worth popularity that others...
Beethoven was annoyed at the success of the “Moonlight” sonata, which he considered less good than others. Comparing it with the piano sonata No. 24 in F sharp major he had just completed, he said to his friend Czerny: "We are still talking about the sonata in C sharp minor, but I did much better, for instance the sonata in F sharp major is really something else.

Can you explain a little about 4:10, is that a phantasy or is that the meaning of the symbol in the score? (the 8-like symbol laying on its side)
staaaajn That symbol is called a “turn”. It is one of the common music ornaments. See my sight reading lesson on ornaments?

On the contrary, that is an important question! Yes, applying the sustain pedal makes the sound more pleasing. Experiment holding different time lengths. Holding the pedal too long causes "muddiness", that would sound annoying. Under-pedaling is preferable to over-pedaling. Key is to listen. Some editors include pedaling notation ("P" for pedal) under the bass staff. Check imslp.org. Go down the list of editions (use preview) and choose ones with pedal markings.

I was really intimidated by the level 4 pieces on your website (haven't learned a new song in years), and felt disheartened. But seeing that this song, a song I know very well, being designated a level 5 has filled me with the self-confidence to try and make an effort to get back to it. Not to ask how the sausage gets made, but what do these levels mean?
Levels are less meaningful for adult learners. Many of my tutorial users have jumped right into advanced pieces with success (they don't read music, they imitate my finger movement and memorize). When young students take private lessons, each year they are assigned pieces, 1st yr level 1, 2nd yr level 2, and so on. My levels are estimates. You can experiment this way: choose a line of the piece that looks difficult to you and just practice that line (15 minutes a day for a week?) If you can learn it without too much frustration, that means you can learn the entire piece. Do you read music? That is the purpose of my project.

No need for that. Why? Method is imitation. Watch my fingers and imitate. Try the first few notes? Ideally, follow the sheetmusic.

The mystery deepens! Your latest comment led me to check Wikipedia:
The score was not published until 1867, 40 years after the composer's death in 1827. The discoverer of the piece, Ludwig Nohl, affirmed that the original autographed manuscript, now lost, was dated 27 April 1810. The music was published as part of Nohl's Neue Briefe Beethovens (New letters by Beethoven) on pages 28 to 33, printed in Stuttgart by J. G. Cotta.
The version of "Für Elise" heard today is an earlier version that was transcribed by Ludwig Nohl. There is a later version, with drastic changes to the accompaniment which was transcribed from a later manuscript by the Beethoven scholar Barry Cooper. The most notable difference is in the first theme, the left-hand arpeggios are delayed by a 16th note. There are a few extra bars in the transitional section into the B section; and finally, the rising A minor arpeggio figure is moved later into the piece. The tempo marking Poco moto is believed to have been on the manuscript that Ludwig Nohl transcribed (now lost). The later version includes the marking Molto grazioso. It is believed that Beethoven intended to add the piece to a cycle of bagatelles.
The pianist and musicologist Luca Chiantore [es] argued in his thesis and his 2010 book Beethoven al piano (new Italian edition: Beethoven al pianoforte, 2014) that Beethoven might not have been the person who gave the piece the form that we know today. Chiantore suggested that the original signed manuscript, upon which Ludwig Nohl claimed to base his transcription, may never have existed. On the other hand, Barry Cooper wrote, in a 1984 essay in The Musical Times, that one of two surviving sketches closely resembles the published version.

The 1st ending was being played… repeat… then continue to the 2nd ending, also indicated with a green bar.

@@yannik3229 there are many kinds of repeats. main purpose was to save paper and ink (in the old days). If you go through my sight reading lessons then continue to the Czerny Op. 599 100 exercises, you'll cover all the basics.

Jane what is the technique to be able to play any classic?
The first part of this piece doesn’t require much technique. You can just listen, observe, then imitate. To learn classical piano seriously, start with my sight-reading lessons, practice one set of scales each week, and practice pieces that you like.
If you think song is hard by anu lesson in yputube full version you think this is also hard but this is easiest you can find i am new subscriber i have a channel someone reaquested to read fur elise full version so this helped
