Hi Sarah, You have done a fine job describing “Mobility.” But I was especially interested in “ allow me to introduce myself” Have a wonderful time hiking. Aloha friend
Phew. Mobility is a tough one to describe. Allow me to Introduce myself is much more than the cover and the elevator pitch may make it sound. I hope more people give it a chance.
I read Belonging a few years ago and absolutely loved it. It is a fascinating book. It also scratches an itch for me--I'm interested in reading fiction/memoirs/history about Germany after WWII. There isn't much of it out there.
I was intrigued to read it since I had a colleague whose family emigrated from Germany during the war. (Her Dad was an economist.) She would not discuss anything WWII related. She was picked on and ostracized growing up. She worked hard to eliminate her accent. I was always fascinated by the brief history she gave me.
All three of these sound wonderful. I already had the first two on my TBR and now I’m moving them up in priority. I think my brother might like Mobility for its Baku setting (his best friend is from there), for the oil industry topic and for insight into the lives of his daughters (my nieces). Have a great time on your hiking trip!
I think someone with knowledge of Baku might find it particularly interesting. Not an area of the world we frequently find in English language literature or translation.

@@sarah-roadworthy I listened to the audio this week. Afterwards, the story grew on me in subtle ways.
