This was a hard lesson to learn and instill this week for Tate... Even Kiah had to readjust her mindset for the week of racing ahead of us. Be sure to watch until the end to see all of the action-packed gate drop coverage from Loretta Lynn's.

To put that much faith into your own kid for them to consistently fall short the moment any momentum is built would certainly test ones patience as a Father/Mother and also, just as a human being. As much as you want to see them succeed, seeing them not seem to have that drive to continue fighting when the going gets tough would make anyone question if they want to keep sacrificing so much for the sport. Nothing against Tate whatsoever, he's just a kid. But the difference in mindsets does show and I do feel some form of empathy for Chad

I grew up racing motocross from 95’-01’….crashed so hard at the end of the hole shot straightaway at tunnel hill raceway (IL) in 99’ that I got knocked unconscious and had the bike mangled to all hell (twisted subframe, bent bars, etc). When I woke up on the track, the very first thing I asked those standing over me was if my bike was ok. Track crew and my father told me not to worry about the bike and I said no, I’m going to finish the race and that’s exactly what I did. I may not have had the most talent on the track (only made it to B class), but I had the heart to not quit unless I actually had broken some bones. Tate mailed it in over some bent handlebars. I hope he reads this and uses it for motivation to prove it to himself that he’s got that dog in him!!! Send it kid or pick up a different hobby. He’s got way too much of a support system to not give it all he’s got, especially at the biggest race of the year!

But Tate is growing up in a world where his dad was one of the best of all time and he would feel that. Kiah doesnt seem to put that same pressure on herself for some reason. It's more of a mentality that he is requesting than a result. It's gotta be hard for any person who was at the very top of their profession to try to show someone how to do something they can and have done and made it look easy while doing it. Chad was a true great that came out of nowhere right into the Carmichael era, and bubba era, if Chad hadn't of come over from Aussie both Carmichael and Stewart would of basically road around the track unchallenged for approximately 9 years.

(It never happened) Your kids change gear including helmets for every race! They made it to LL's, a lot of kids didn't, they get to race bikes prepped and race ready for every race. This is on you Chad for thinking if you GAVE them everything they would be winners. Why not have the kids earn their way by cleaning their own bikes and their own gear? IMO you are showing the world that having everything isn't the answer. I am basing this on your statements at the end of the video in how you are thinking you don't want to continue down this path. Well, make the changes and teach them some work ethic and you will see how much they really want your dream. The sport has enough parents that are trying to live through their kids.

He is a tough guy, otherwise he didn't win as much as he has, but damn, the pressure on these kids must be huge. I was brought up very soft, my mum would pick me up and give me a kiss if I even came close to hurting myself, but it sure made me a strong indervidual as an adult and while I am not tough in the terms of being able to take pain, I am street smart and street tough. I hope they work it out, because love and tenderness are also something that kids need and I am sure they get it from Chad and his wife. Great for the kids that they could compete, but giving up might have also been that he is the son of Chad Reed and the pressure became too much for the little fella.

He's young, hasn't been doing it long, and has made a lot of progress in the last year. Who knows if he ever gets fast or not, or makes anything of it. But, giving up because of some tweaked bars is definitely not acceptable. Chad's reaction is warranted, the only thing you can control in MX is the amount of effort you give. Yes, there was a teaching moment there and probably something that will resonate with not only Tate, but his siblings as well. Moments like that shape a child for the better especially when you have great parents like Chad and Ellie to reinforce the point. How many kids over time have crushed Lorretta's because of pure natural talent and then flamed out when they got older with no skills and no humility to overcome new obstacles when not racing, too many. One thing that's great about MX is that it's an honest sport. You could have everything a racer could want: a trick bike w/factory or close to factory parts, a motor home, parents that support you and do everything from feeding you to prepping and washing your bike and taking you to races, and the only thing you have to do is race. But if you don't have the drive and talent, all that privilege, camera men, free bikes and getting everything handed to you doesn't matter if you can't ride. No one can fake it in motocross.

I think they both did pretty good for their first time at LL. There is a lot of pressure on them both to do well in this sport; pressure from everyone who followed Chad’s career, from the other racers, from their parents, and from themselves. They really haven’t been racing for that long and to expect so much in a relatively short amount of time is a lot on them. They’re just kids, kids that are still growing and learning about life in general not just about riding/racing.
Kiah did well for her first time at LL. Yes, she wanted to do better than she did, and yes she rode more timid than she usually does but that’s ok. Just like it’s ok for Tate to DNF in his race. He crashed and bent his bars and didn’t feel safe to keep riding. With all of the nervousness and stress he was feeling it probably would have been bad decision to keep racing. Moto is a dangerous sport. And yes you do need to be tough and push through hard things in moto but that comes slowly with time for many people; you have to build that toughness up not just expect it from the start and in every moto after. They both will be ready to step it up more in their own time on their schedule. And that time may consist of many years of slow progression and lots of setbacks.
Kiah and Tate you both did really well! I know you both expected more from yourselves at LL and are a bit disappointed, but just because you didn’t meet yours and everyone else’s expectations doesn’t mean that you don’t have anything to be proud of. You both have accomplished so much in the past 2 years, I hope you feel it and not just see it. And I hope that no matter what anyone else says that you both are proud of yourselves for everything you’ve accomplished.

I have to agree with Chad on that one for sure. Have qualified for Loretta's just to see if I could back when I was on 85s but never went because we lived in Pennsylvania my dad was a blue collar worker. Anytime I ever pulled off is because my bike wouldn't start in a local race. If I would have pulled off I'm injured with a bike running and rideable my dad would have left me at the track. I feel for Chad on this one...... the time, the money invested, the sweat, the tears, the passion for the sport sometimes its just not for everyone. I know it might sound tough but maybe a year of old bikes, old used gear and driving around in a van with no AC might give Tate the wake up to realise just how lucky he is to have Chad Reed as his farther because i know for certain 25 years ago id have done anything to have someone like chad to shape and mould me into the rider that chad can do with Tate, Some of us were not as lucky to have brand new bikes each year let alone free kits, boots, helmets and everything else needed. Tate has it you can see glimpses of it in his riding now and then he just needs to have a serious sit down and think about if its what he really wants like Chad said at the end of the video.

It’s “good” that Tate pulled off on a moment he didn’t need to give up and had could ride further and finish the race cause this mistake is most of a time after talking about a once in a life mistake you never do again so better now on a young age than in the future he did learn it now the hard way so it probably would be really good lesson for the future! Cause to learn things you have to go thru it and face and feel it! And that’s how you learn the best on never ever giving up! For kiah it was the same also a good lesson tho experience riding under your own level and expectations with nerves is a really good lesson and experience to feel and take on in the future so you can handle it gus you now what it is and does to you now!👊😊🍀 iam very proud on this kids! Good job and Also pace helping dad loading the bike in nice when he nows Chad isn’t feeling that good was really👏👏👍💙💙💙😊

Last year, we thought Kiah was gonna quit. She seemed spooked by some crashes and she got real timid. But in the days leading up to Loretta's, WOW did she ever improve! We didn't see what happened in practice but apparently it just got her spooked again, so she was riding timid again. But the good news, she kept racing forward, and passed some other girls all the way to the end. I really hope she took inspiration from the pro WMX girls, because we can DEFINITELY see her becoming one of them in the future. She'll get over that timidity. You can work on that. But they key is, she wants to move to the front. Definitely has the Reed spirit in her.
HOPEFULLY Tate is just in that same funk she was in last year, and he'll have the same bounce back even stronger. Because, man, that was disappointing. Rolling off the track to NOT get a ticket to Loretta's, being LUCKY to get an unclaimed spot in 2 divisions, then doing the same GIVE UP and roll off in those events? Come on! It's one thing just not feeling it. But you have to stay in it! Make the goal to JUST PASS ONE RIDER, then adjust to pass ONE MORE. Then ONE MORE. I hate to be so mean, but life is this: Tate's lucky I don't run ALPINE STARS. Right now I'd be seriously questioning whether the only riders getting any free gear are Chad and Kiah.

He’s scared and nervous. Some kids it takes a while before it really clicks. Sometimes it doesn’t click at all but it’s his first time at Loretta’s and he let his nerves get the best of him. Definitely reason for having a talk but people acting like it’s the end of the world bc a kid who hasn’t even been racing that long didn’t do great his first time at Loretta’s after not even knowing he was even racing until a couple days prior.

    • @davidbiagi2932

    • @davidbiagi2932
      @davidbiagi2932 Месяц назад

It’s called being nervous and I agree you shouldn’t ever quit if you and your bike are able to make it to the finish, but he’s still a kid and he just has to learn these things. Sometimes it takes years before it finally clicks and then sometimes it never does. Either way, it’s the biggest amateur race of the year, his first time there, he wasn’t even suppose to race and didn’t know until a few days prior, so I think people can chill out and quit acting like it’s the end of the world. Now if he qualifies next year and he does the same thing after having been there before, then that’s when they need to really start deciding whether to keep going or find a new path. How many times have we seen kids on 65s and 85s who could barely even qualify for Loretta’s all of the sudden become a top 5 guy when they got older/bigger and got more confidence and experience? All he really needs is confidence in himself because he can ride and he has all of the tools to be very good, but without the confidence in himself none of that matters.

I know you do because that’s your kid whatever you and your family come to good luck always be a fan of the 22 team… I would if he wants to continue racing just let them race the local races. He goes from gettin really sad and down that he didn't straight qualify for Loretta's to landing an alternative spot to giving up and quitting his races which is what he signed up to do.
I could see Tate listening/reading too much into all the noise thats surrounds him/the family/ racing community and feels he needs to be top dog or he just ain't into it. Then ends up giving up for this reason or that so then he has a reason/excuse as to why he's not top dog.

Seen many frustrations in the sport. Parents try hard, kids try hard. Sometimes doesn't work out the way you want it. I always wonder with parents, that have some sort of sports achievements and their children. The expectations and or the mental aspect side of it for their kids... Does the kid feel the pressure of having to compare? or even a parent's expectation, the effect of it. Not enough is done for the sport of motocross and the parent/ child athletic aspect. Alot of academic studies done on Leadership / followership. But sports Coach/ Athletic in motocross specifically. Maybe not. Hopefully the Reeds can master this aspect of the sport.

i was in Tate's shoes. my dad gave all he knew how to give and i didn't have that fire that other kids had...decent talent but not the fire that I needed.

I think Tate will be good once he starts being Tate and not chad reeds son i could only imagine the pressure he puts on himself being chads son.. but heck maybe let him run a different number and let him be tate he’s got the potential , it’s just mindset for him it will come

@@cwg1998 yeah that’s not the case for Tate . He was cool from day 1. Haha nah
He is just learning and taking it all in. I think he needs to realize he isn’t the beginner anymore and he deserves to get in there.

My god Tate had an awesome gate pick in moto 1 and started DFL. Brutal.

I'm going to be controversial here. I think Tate's style will come good as he grows.... he has a four-stroke style and I think it will suit him better... Rome wasn't built in a day, as the old saying goes... I know it's frustrating Chad, but come on pal, look how far they have come this year. Your daughter couldn't do a jump, and Tate now realises it takes a lot of hard work from his part...Still need to release the brave boy ...Pace xxx... keep the faith, the amazing journey will come....One step back two steps forward xxx

As soon as Tate’s bike went on the stand and it didn’t look too twisted, I said to my wife, “Chad is not going to be OK with that”.
Sure enough…you could see it in Chad’s eyes.
All part of the learning and growing process.
I still bet they made a bunch of great memories over the week at The Ranch.

Probably won't be anymore races for a little bit but i think you should put their positions on the screen every once in awhile to help us viewers be engaged in the motos knowing the progress made or lost

They where going anyway atleast he got to feel what its like a knows he is going to commit if this is what he wants to do. And most of us dont figure that out till big bikes anyway
