FILM DESCRIPTION:
From the comedic mind of Tina Fey comes a new twist on the modern classic, MEAN GIRLS. New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called "The Plastics," ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika). However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina's ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney), she finds herself prey in Regina's crosshairs. As Cady sets to take down the group's apex predator with the help of her outcast friends Janis (Auli'i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey), she must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school.

I really like that they put Damien in this, it takes him a bit out of the sidelines
The problem is he takes away from moments that are important for Cady. Most notably: "And though Janis is great, she does not have this power // People literally cower, Janis can't do that". Cady making this observation is super important for setting up the way she blows off Janice and Damien to be a plastic.

There’s a bit too much autotune for Damian 😭
My only annoyance with this song is taking out Candy, she is still there but feels less like a person experiencing it and more like just a person to the side lines. The Janice line is supposed to be her coming to the realization that she enjoys having Regina’s power at her side, it doesn’t make sense coming from Damian.
I knew that line felt off, something about it has bugged me since the first time I heard it

But think about the part where they say how regina would feel if she was a reproductive threat. It feels like a foreshadowing of what they're going to have Kady do in the film. Be Regina's threat.
@@weird_mango42I think this was the reason. Bad casting. They should have hired an actress who can sing. Having Damien and Janis singing her lines ruins the whole point of the song.

The casting for this movie was horrible tbh, the singing for this song wasn’t bad, but it made no sense to have Damian be apart of the song instead of Cady.
@@sunnybugz7391damian had his only two songs removed from the movie, so they gave him a part in apex predator, also i rlly think cady shouldve had a part of this bc i think janis, damian and cady wouldve sounded amazing together in this song

I watched the entire movie the first time through and didn't even realize that's who was playing Janis. I just saw her as not-Lizzy Caplan. 😅 But ofc after I realized who it was I enjoyed the performance even more!
Ok I fell in love with the soundtrack years ago, especially this song. I never got to see the musical, and this scene is EXACTLY how I imagined it in my mind. I didn't realize they used the broadway songs in the movie! I absolutely have to see this now.
