>People want games to be ever more realistic. Me: I have the solution. You must play through Desert Bus each time you want to buy or review any other game.
Honestly, complete cynicism with this one. Pong, most sports games (especially older ones) and a bunch of other games can easily be viewed as inoffensive. While Desert buss has it’s place in history, its argument is ill conceived. It is fair to say, however, that most games have some form of political or social statement in them. Even Super Mario Bros. features the kidnapping of a royal official by a rival kingdom. Such things as view points are nearly unavoidable in art. And, in all honesty, bc it is in part a response to criticism, Desert Buss is a political statement, which some in the late 90s and early 00s would have considered offensive. To some conservatives today, the idea of having a political concept in a video game is obscene and offensive. To that, Desert Buss failed its goal. They should have just made a pong clone instead.
sports games can be offensive, you just have to think like a Twitter blue check. like, It's offensive for people who are deaf, blind amputees, just like how the term "blind playthrough" is offensive to blind people. also add some complaint about diversity in there and lack of representation for disabled people too. yep sports games are more problematic than desert bus.
One thing I've been confused about is if you try looking up this game some places say it is a 2 disc game and others just say it's 1 disc. Which is it?
0 because it was never released, any physical copies you find are going to be reproduction disks, actual official hardware thats not just core dev kits, you'd have a very rare find
No piece of Art is inoffensive. What matters to me is who is being offended, what are they offended by, and why do they find something offensive. There's a big difference between something being offensive because its racist, homophobic, ect vs something being offensive because it insults your cultural or religious sensibilities.
The best kinda satire. Fuck polticsl correctness. I completely agree. Ppl *SHOULD* be offended and games, along with any form of art, commercial or otherwise, shouldn't be so overly concerned about trying to be inoffensive. ...That's fucking stupid.
It is impossible for all media to be inoffensive, yes, but all statements that you can say, or even think, can't be inoffensive. Edit 1: because what is inoffensive to one person can be extremely offensive to another. Edit 2: though that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to be inoffensive, you should try to be inoffensive when possible, you should be tolerant toward people, but not too tolerant or you could end up letting purposely offensive people that have no intention to be better get away with their bullshit. So all in all, what's offensive and inoffensive is hard to determine, and is a case by case basis. Sorry if this is annoying.
@Mewaddlee I was refering in game reasons as you put ''Games should at least try to avoid bigotry.'' which is thus why I put if the bigotery fits the in game world for the story or even time period its set as .. For Example lets say a game is being set during the wild west it'd be fair and understandable for all kinds of bigoted views put in the game for that time period the game is set in .. Among other cases like that or lets take Bioshock infinite for example while the game has a scene of bigotery that could be cut out but its not a senseless put in factor it no only was put in to help set the tone but also to show pretty quickly the sort of society the place is and how it treats specific races in the game world.. Those those sort of bigotery in games work to improve the games world .. As its for the realness of the in game world or other factors that serve the game rather then be there to just be there
@Mewaddlee But yeah you get why I messaged you the first time given how you phrased that matter of games and Bigotry right? I mean it came off as in a way meaning you wouldn't be okay with valid in game world reasons or valid logic of how a actual time period a game is set it would logically have bigotry in theme .. Rather then just not okay when its stuck in there to be there
This comment section is going to be a nasty annoying war of people who just argue without listening. I'm leaving this comment to instead state that I enjoyed the video that, while could have expanded on the subject a bit, I learned some about it regardless.
Beyond Good and Evil? Had that NOT released in 2003 (when NO ONE cared about what was political, left or right, besides Fox News screwballs) and released today, it would be panned as "politically correct garbage", rather than the cult following it's got today. Michel Ancel (who's gotten Joss Whedon reputation once the Ubisoft allegations leaked out... yikes) apparently hated Lara Croft and created Jade as the antithesis of such. Plus, it's anti-fascist messages and being influenced by criticisms of the United States during the George W. Bush administration. Meanwhile, when newer footage of BGE2 released a couple years back, certain conservative circles got pissed that it "portrayed" men as pigs (because Pey'j never existed in the original apparently) and has POC women as main characters (again *points to the original*). Anita Sarkeesian is even a fan of Jade. What does that tell you?
@Mewaddlee No, I agree with you. I'm pretty liberal (who are hated by leftists and conservatives alike these days) and I don't mind political messages in my media. Star Trek is political (about space socialism). Star Wars is political (left-wing paramilitary vs space Nazis). I've even enjoyed games with a right-wing edge (like Splinter Cell) as I have a left-wing one (again, BGE, and even Metal Gear Solid). If the artist WANTS to make a political message, let them. How they do it is another story entirely.
@Mewaddlee I think it's because the ones now trying to censor stuff and cry they're offended now are generally on the left, not sure when they became the morality police telling people what to think and be offended by but it's funny how the more things change the more they stay the same because you're definitely right it used to be the right that did it over the silliest things
@Mewaddlee wow nice generalising sweeping statements even a few buzz words from the idiots hand book also if you really think the worst the left are doing is embarrassing itself you've not been watching lol

Desert Bus: 1/10 too much sand
This game is honestly so tedious and boring but at least it does a great job of getting its message across to people.
idea: Deset Bus Speedrun Championship
I would rather play Desert Bus than Crazy Bus. Crazy Bus literally made my ears bleed.
"That Doom Wad"
Censor Gaming, can you stop the differences on Sonic X?
That’s already been done
@@dwainsimmons3447 It has? I didn't notice.
Challenge accepted. I will earn the bronze trophy for desert bus.
hey can you make a video about lego city under cover and how the wiiu version was untredtionly but tecnecly was censoerd for the ps4 version
Unless it's illegal or immoral I don't think anything should be censored once the game rating gets to m or higher.
@Mewaddlee Bigotery in a game can work especially if its part of the narrative or fits the time period the game is set in just saying
Rather then just not okay when its stuck in there to be there
That looks like pain and terror from bl3
I loved the bullshit series wish it wasn't only on hbo
I now want a remake of Penn and Teller Smokes and Mirror. Anyone with me?
This comment section is going to be a nasty annoying war of people who just argue without listening. I'm leaving this comment to instead state that I enjoyed the video that, while could have expanded on the subject a bit, I learned some about it regardless.
lmao can't believe I've never heard of this. Hilarious concept for a "game," I wanna see the rest of the stuff in the collection now
Desert Bus shows the future of where games are heading in this day cancel culture.
Think of it, an entirely inoffensive game theoretically has no conflict. So what would there be without some sort of offense?
Indeed
But, BUT...you KILL a bug!! REEEEEEEEEE!!!
there's… a lot of digits on that score card… how long would it take to completely fill it with nines, legitimately?
Around 14 years and 3 months I think.
From the looks of it, as a video game, Desert Bus sucks as. But as piece of art, as a statement against the political correctness and moral panic of society, this game is genius. In that way, Desert Bus has a lot of novelty, and shows the potential of video games as a legitimate medium for satire, and for artistic expression. Pretentious as this may sound. 😅
Joel Desert bus.
Desert Bus is art
We need a *desert bus* remasted
i see desert bus as the inevitable end to the culture war.
I am offended by desert bus! Not only does it portray cruelty to insects (poor fly) it also condones wasting massive amounts of fuel to drive across the desert! What would Greta say? How dare you! You have two feet, it would be more environmentally friendly to simply walk!
That is actually the most offensive game I have ever heard of lol.
These comments make me grateful for whenever the comet kills us all.
I love Penn and teller but I have to disagree with them in regards to the Episode of Penn & Teller's BullSh*t where they talk about Walmart.
pong is the most offensive game ever made.
I wish some of these stupid mobile phones games would be censored. Or at least yeeted from existence.
Same. some of them dont even have what they show in the add
@@Pika-Chu64 Well then they should be removed for false advertisement and not for their content
5:21 Wait, wouldn't that make it political? Amazing, even the least political game out there is political.
6:25 That's also political.
