President James Bryon Dean today after the ADA raid convinced the statue of Freedom to stop going on it's rampage and instead go racecar driving with him and Nixon. "it was amazing" said James Dean after the race.
In the midst of everything that happened after the daughter segment, I nearly forgot Nina asked her father if he could make a statue of her. It's a bit of unnerving realizing he sorta lived up to that promise, but not in the way she imagined.
I first thought it was going to be a wholesome story about her father possessing the statue and protecting the daughter from harm, then it got to the cave.
Oh, and here's some fun facts for you all: 1. Crawford did die suddenly casting the statue, his wife shipped it 2. During the boat ride, the vessel stopped in Gibraltar due to numerous holes in its hull 3. There is an exact plaster model of 'Freedom' sitting in the Capitol in Emancipation Hall 4. The statue is over 16 feet tall. So, enjoy THAT nightmare fuel
What's even MORE disturbing is that BOTH Crawfords are still alive. The bodies were cut up by the Giza Glass, which is so sharp that even if the body is dismembered, it is still technically "whole"
Creepy fun fact: the real Thomas Crawford died because of brain cancer that had caused his eyes to fail, which makes him putting his eyes in the statue or whatever extra creepy
Christ. I thought the white at the end was a glare. I had to watch it a few times before I realized that she was looking at the camera man, and when I did, my stomach dropped.
I got it; The Freedom Statue is facing towards de cameraman. The thing is its upside down; check for a picture of the Statue's head and rotate it. First you see the statue and right before the camera starts to shake again now you'll see it; it's the face with 'papa's eyes'.
So not only did it kill a little girl, it killed a bunch of men in port and covered it's whole 16 foot body with enough of their skin to make it convincing look like a large injured woman. Then the government was like "We still need our statue" so the captured it and peeled all the skin off until it was once again a motionless statue, and just...used it.
See, I imagined it as the statue _taking their freedom_ - it didn't just drape flayed skins over itself, it stole their ability to move, to think, to feel, the qualities of a free-willed human being, and took all of that for itself. She looked injured because she _was_ injured in the course of being captured and dragged off to D.C., but by that point she had become... alive enough. Living skin and human flesh and warm blood, impossibly wrapped around a plaster statue and transforming it into a giantess.
The statue killing off the little girl was deeply disturbing. Also was thinking that the Statue was going to be a alternate version of the Statue of Liberty before it was revealed to be placed at the top of the Capitol, which will now freak me out everytime I visit the nearby Capitol city that is close to me, Austin TX, which also has a Woman statue at the top. Was hoping the final scene would have the statue flying around but it attacking the building and searching for the camera man actually creeped me out.

Way more terrifying... In the final shot, you hear a woman's scream as the statue vanishes, followed by a weird stretching sound. Then the statue comes back, looking a little paler than before.... *It's wearing that woman's skin as a face mask*
As some others have mentioned, I'm almost completely sure that the face we see at 11:25 - 11:26 is a canyon crown being created. If you pause at 11:04 you can see a pretty clear view of Freedom's cap and her eye sockets (papa's eyes most likely obscured by shadow) with the bridge of her nose as she peeks from the upper left hand corner of the door. The structure of her face seems to be completely different than the face we see at 11:25. The second face seems to be much larger and more round, less metallic looking and the eye is completely different, which can't all be explained by Freedom just taking someone's skin and stretching it across her face. Not to mention shortly after we see Freedom's face at 11:04 there's a scream (someone being decapitated by giza glass) and then the sounds of stretching (head swelling) and then the second face appears. I'm not sure why the second face is so much more pale than a normal human but perhaps it could be due to blood loss, massive swelling and/or possibly some kind of camera glare/light reflection? I initially thought it was freedom both times but the more I watch it the more I think the second one is a canyon crown. Such a great series!
My heart dropped six feet under when I saw that the moving figure in the final footage, which I believed to be some glare from the camera, was actually Freedom peeking at you from the corner.
I have a tattoo of the Goddess Columbia statue on my right forearm. Never gonna be able to look at it the same way LOL. This is really well done stuff.
Spoilers below Oh wait, so the white head isn't Freedom's at all. The sound of stretching after the scream isn't the statue trying to wear the victim's skin, it's the sound of the victim's decapitated head growing after being cut off by Giza glass. "His head began to discolor and swell significantly." The white head is a canyoncrown. I guess Nina's skin being around the statue might have been a red herring to think the statue wants to steal skins. Or this is somehow connected to how her mother said Mr. Crawford brought her inside the statue with him.
Oh hey, the person trapped in statue thing is kinda like linconlooker, only, here its reversed, with the flesh being outside. Probably a metaphor but still an interesting thing that connects stuff from the world
Uh, the Moon IS alive. And would probably win in a battle just by flying down to the Earth and crushing the Freedom Statue. Still, a battle would be interesting.
Idk whats the deal with people in the 1900's that they feel that every monument should have a fucking deamon or some freak show or else its not cool enogh
Or either it’s a spirit not a demon nor ancient burial ground I think there used to be a living soul like freedom that wants out of the shell of a body but confused by we’re she is like the capital of the United States for instance it’s just a spirit not a demon or anything you know nightmareian about it
@@heinrichze-france4089 I imagine that the loud vocalizing at the end could be the reason the camera cut, being so loud that the camera broke. The camera guy also could’ve made a run for it
It was a head of one of the victims increasing in size because she got her head cut off by that monsters sword. Whatever the sword cuts increase in size. There's no way a human body has enough skin to fit over that statue's head
One thing I think Alex does really well is he lets you hear multiple sides of the story. Such as ROCKEFELLERTREEINCEDENT, and the other part of that story
cant tell if shes saying "its not papa but it has his eyes" as in its literally not her dad and it took his eyes, or he put his soul into the statue. either way its horrifying.
OK so someone please help me understand. The ship's log says they arrived in Gibraltar with no cargo in the crates. In part IV the constable said they found the statue inside the cave and lifted it out. But in part V the narrator said that the ship arrived with no statue but a giant woman who he put in chains and then turned back into a statue himself. Which of these is true? They can't both be true can they? I don't understand what happened in Gibraltar.
(SPOILERS) From what I gather, both are (presumably) true. Here's my understanding of the events presented: Freedom escaped from BEFORE the ship landed in Gibraltar as the Captain's log says multiple Holes were found in the Monarca storage room that were plugged with tar. The Statue being in the cave in Part IV links to Part II. It fled the ship with Nina, ran up the mountain while cutting through the trees with it's Glowing Sword, then jumped down into the cave, and shortly after killed the little girl for her torso. At the start of Part V, Reed heard something happened in Gibraltar, a conflict of sorts. It seems that Freedom refused to be put back in the ship upon arriving at the port and fought against her transporters, somehow acquiring the body parts it wanted. Ultimately she was defeated, and was imprisoned within the ship. Her human skin form was torn off by Reed leaving only the plaster, forcing it into a coma until it fully healed. Freedom was awoken as a result of the Anti-Deans Storming the Capitol.
@@abicyclebuiltfortwo1368 so then what’s “the thing with Papa’s eyes”? Is it the father himself? He said near the beginning of the video that he had trouble casting the statue. Did you use his own body for it? If his spirit is controlling the statue, that could explain the living woman in Part IV.
@@kayjayt8607 Freedom is the “thing with Papa’s eyes”. Freedom is entirety its own entity and killed Thomas Crawford (Papa) for his eyes. Likewise, she killed Nina Crawford for her torso. The Conflict in Gibraltar is where Freedom (violently mind you) acquired the rest of its parts, resulting in the “Tall wounded woman” that arrived in America.
@@abicyclebuiltfortwo1368 bro, this theory aged poorly due to actual lore, I guess this is what that guy in The Walten Files meant when he said to "not try to solve the puzzle yet"
This one is the most confusing of the Mythos, But I might be able to piece something together 12:23 This scream might have been the daughter of the Italian Sculpture before being crushed.
That would fit, the scream and then the loud metallic impact signaling the crush which abruptly cuts it off. The part I just don’t get is why the statue skinned her and stretched it across its own body.
Ryan Trimble but in the GIZAGUARDIAN episode it says that the daughter’s skin was found away from the statue, also, the person inside the statue was still alive and sentient. Why would he kill his own daughter and force her to spend eternity with him? Not to mention why he put himself in the statue in the first place.
Ryan Trimble oh, fair enough then, I won’t spoil anything for you unless you want to. I just want to say that that episode clears up a lot of stuff, especially about this episode.
Yes more monument mythos Also I am surprised at the return of the anti deans I think the story of this is that they were wanting a statue for the capitol building and ended up creating a being that can fly at extreme speeds and can transform into a regular women
I dont think she turned into a regular woman. I think the fuckin monster wants its own freedom from being a statue, so cuts off peoples body parts, like that poor little girls torso, puts them on her so she can move freely like a human.
@@sandran17 Is that what happened in Gibraltar? The statue murdered the girl and covered herself in the flesh? Is that what that guy in Part V meant by "the plaster is inside of her?"
Recent lore goes in that the sculptor is inside freedom, and he cut up his daughter, who is still alive thanks to Giza glass, and put her inside the statue with him
Binged this entire series last night! Its not "perfect," but dang that one video about the Statue of Liberty just grabbed me by the collar and screamed at me to "WATCH THIS NOW." (Could be bec I live in NY but that besides the point). Amazing job Alex! Ps. Lets get Night mind, Nightmare Expo, and inside a mind on this. This guy has got to get more eyeballs
I've been watching through these again to make a Google Doc covering them, and I have to say this was a perfect cap to Season One. The way every part is told in a different style is incredibly unique and creative, and what seems to be at first a relatively mundane if eerie story ended unexpectedly, but still in a way that didn't feel like a copout. Amazing.
Holy crap, I just realized I didn't put the Archivist's notes into the doc so I started copying them over, and the Archivist is not only fully aware of the Monument Mythos universe existing, but is also from an alternate timeline and is somehow uploading it?? The implications of that one sentence are insane.
I’m a little late to this but I discovered something very interesting. The word “faller” used in this title could mean 3 things at once. 1. Faller - a person who fells (or cuts down) trees for a living. This is obviously seen in the part where Freedom cuts down trees as she carries Nina away into a cave. This could also have some connection to her cutting and killing “criminals against the government”, namely people of the ADA, as described in Giza Guardian. It also could have something to do with the special trees but I haven’t noticed any connections yet 2. Literally just falling. This is obviously seen when Freedom is shot down from the Capitol building and falls off. Could also be seen when she falls into the cave with Nina. 3. Fall - the lapse in humankind into a state of sin; in other words, the failure to resist temptation. The statue craved freedom so badly that she wanted to take it for herself by killing innocent people, taking their skin and wearing it to seem and feel human. She could be a representation of “The Fall of Man”. Faller can also likely just be describing Crawford himself, unable to resist himself cutting up his own body using Giza Glass and molding himself within Freedom, making him the Freedom Faller.
Gaslight: The government covers your 100+ murders by stating that you simply fell ontop of those people, apparently removing their skin in the process Gatekeep: Protect the Capitol from those that want to destroy it. Girlboss: Become human by skinning people to such an extent they send you to the Grand Canyon where you can gleefully behead sinners with no fear of reprisal.

You know, I used to wonder how anyone could be afraid of the goofy appearance the Titans in Attack On Titan have I think I'm starting to understand a bit now
“Immigrants were sacrificed to something in the statue of liberty” -> A nasty metaphor for how harshly American Society treated the same immigrants it depended upon. “Alcatraz is a self replicating living organism that threatens to consume all”-> A critique of the prison-industrial complex growing out of control. “The plaster mold used to cast the Freedom statue in DC is alive and wants your skin.” … I got nothing. And I love it. Sometimes a murderous statue is just a murderous statue.
I feel like it’s kind of a stretch to compare a bunch of immigrants from Europe getting brutally sacrificed in a satanic ritual in 1954 beneath the Statue of Liberty to create the Liberty Lurker monster to immigrants being mistreated in America.
perhaps it's a metaphor on how american history is chock full of intensely violent shit they've done in the name of something so abstract as "freedom"?
@@cuddlemari I don’t really think it’s metaphorical though. I mean I guess tbf since it’s an analogue horror story everything has a double meaning so I could be completely wrong, but you can see how taking this super mysterious story and then just stapling on some message about how Americans did horrible stuff in the past just kinda serves to make it less interesting, yeah?
In later lore, the Statue was revealed to be used by the US government to kill "dissidents". So yeah, the Statue of "Freedom" killing people that tries to defend their own rights.
NEW ALEXKANSAS VID DROPPED ON MY BIRTHDAY LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO ok but in reality your vids are so well made and are quite interesting to me, please keep doing what you're doing!
Wow. It took me a good few mins of pausing and rewinding and going frame by frame in the final scene. But it culminated in a real “when you see it, you’ll shit bricks” moment. If anyone can’t see it themselves, turn your screen 90 degrees anti clockwise and the horror will become much clearer.
Thought it was weird that the newspaper said "January 6th, 1977: Anti-Dean Assoc. Storms U.S. Capitol". Then I checked and this was uploaded in February 2021. Gotta get inspiration somewhere, I guess.
At first I thought her father was somehow turned into the statue supernaturally or contained within because it had his eyes and escaped and saved his kid. But the statue killed the father and wore his skin.
Starting from 11:00 The sounds that follow after the scream. The inflation of the head of the screamer. An odd sound, like something stretching over something else. That thing is wearing the screamer. Huh.
Here's some spoilers, so read at your own risk. The giant head we see peeking in the corner of the doorframe at the end may not be freedom's, as it actually could be someone's giant bloated disembodied head. In a newer video, its explained that the blade on freedom's sword is made out of "Giza Glass", which is a material that makes a chopped off body part, say, a hand, swell up. But the user of the hand can still move it around and feel with it, even though it's been sliced off. So, my theory is that the head we see is someone else's, as on closer inspection, it's giant, pale, and bloated, and we can tell because the eye is, in a way, too small for the head. While freedom's, even though we can't really get a good glimpse at her in the video, is a normal, statue-sized head. But that's what I think at least.
12:23 you could see the plasters face: idk how to explain this but the white part actually has a face (which is the plasters) it kinda looks like this - - 0 And you could see the resemblance when you go to the part where the girl gets kidnapped you could see a sketch of the monster. And it has these flat eyes or something.
A moving statue with eyes taken from a human? This sounds very much like the “pitching robot” that’s actually a golem from _The Eyes of the Killer Robot_ by John Bellairs. Only difference is the golem in the book actually assumes the appearance of the person whose eyes are being used.
Officer: Hey Dean. Dean: Yeah Joe? Joe: Did the ADA just shoot the Freedom statue? Dean: Yeah and? Joe: Then why did it flipping slice 3 ADA members in half!?!?!? Dean: Wait, WHAT!?!?

first its the statue bending over looking threw the door like we would a mouse whole the second one that shows up is also the statue after it tore someones face off and put it on likely the woman we hear screaming then hear tearing and stretching sounds afterwords

Oh wait, so the white head isn't Freedom's at all. "His head began to discolor and swell significantly." The white head is a canyoncrown.
I guess Nina's skin being around the statue might have been a red herring to think the statue wants to steal skins. Or this is somehow connected to how her mother said Mr. Crawford brought her inside the statue with him.
WHY IS NO ONE ELSE SAYING THIS! THIS MAKES SO MUCH SENSE
nah, the father of Nina clearly said he'd make a statue of her too, but not in the way Nina was expecting.
Didn’t freedom kill a lot of people though? Meaning there would be a lot more canyon crowns just floating around the city

I don't understand what happened in Gibraltar.
so basically in the night freedom fought with some of the crew and went to the rock annd pulled it out
(SPOILERS) From what I gather, both are (presumably) true. Here's my understanding of the events presented:
Freedom escaped from BEFORE the ship landed in Gibraltar as the Captain's log says multiple Holes were found in the Monarca storage room that were plugged with tar.

That ending really terrified me. I’m actually scared of this statue now.
President James Dean, when later asked for comments on the events of the day, had this to say:
“I was surprised.”
It also could have something to do with the special trees but I haven’t noticed any connections yet
Giza Glass = Sword = Enlarged/Swollen Limb. Would Explain The Eyes In Freedom And Why Freedom Has Skin In The End Scene.
Ok that ending was genuinely horrifying not going to lie. I thought it was a glare at first.
Gaslight: The government covers your 100+ murders by stating that you simply fell ontop of those people, apparently removing their skin in the process
Gatekeep: Protect the Capitol from those that want to destroy it.
Girlboss: Become human by skinning people to such an extent they send you to the Grand Canyon where you can gleefully behead sinners with no fear of reprisal.

“The plaster mold used to cast the Freedom statue in DC is alive and wants your skin.”
…
I got nothing.

That final scene, I think the second head is a crown, you can hear the inflation sound.
Starting from 11:00
The sounds that follow after the scream.
12:23 you could see the plasters face: idk how to explain this but the white part actually has a face (which is the plasters) it kinda looks like this
