I am interested in digital marketing. I plan on getting a certificate through Coursera. Besides the certificate what other skills should I plan to learn. Also can you think of any specific niche areas in digital marketing that don't have very much competition.
So happy you are uploading again!! Super inspiring to see how far you have come! I am currently in the generating experience in SEO and as much as I get discouraged here and there, seeing videos like this give me that boost I need. Thank you :D
Hi Daniel! What a heartfelt comment , it’s so great to hear feedback like this 🥰Happy to hear the videos are providing motivation 😊 When I began, knowing others went through the same thing & were successful helped me push through the difficult times as well 🙌🏻
Ok so this is mostly admin and analysing numbers, this is very unappealing to me so thanks for showing us that it's not just about sitting around a table brainstorming cool ideas for photoshoots, creative writing, and event planning. Marketing is such a vague one isn't it. It can be quite glamorous or It can be basically admin, it's quite confusing if you've never done it. My specialism is copywriting which I thought was part of marketing but seems to have nothing to do with any of this. Appreciate the insight.
It depends on what type of business you work for . An ad agency will give you more of the creative brainstorm sessions vs a software company. Best Wishes
Haha I just had that same brand of sardines today. Thank you for sharing! Bought Seth's course a long time ago and am just trying to land my first entry level PPC job.
Thank you so much Christine. This video helps me as I try to see if using my communications experience/degree to transition to a marketing career. Plenty of pluses in the profession, as well as some things that would be challenging for me. Ciao.
Thanks for sharing your experience. In your excel file, try and replace the Month slicer with a timeline, it may be more user friendly If you share this report with stakeholders :-).
struggling with the idea of going to school and getting a bachelors degree in marketing. nervous about AI and the job market. nice that you found something that is working for you. I dream to work remote so I can leave california and go to thailand for a year or two then pick up and go to another country
Totally understandable. A bachelors is not necessary, but experience with either an internship or volunteering definitely is. I hope you’re able to figure out your path! :)
Hi thanks for the video. Curious what your feelings are on the outlook of digital marketing with the advent of AI. Do you think this is a good field moving forward or will AI slowly take over and negate the necessity for this position? Thx!
Hi Brian, That’s a great question to think about - I don’t see AI/ChatGPT replacing PPC/ marketing strategy within the next 5 to 10 years because businesses still want human control when it comes to spending money. Remember - marketing is really about communicating with human beings and AI isn’t truly able to grasp that at this stage. However, I can see how it can replace other more automated aspects of marketing such as copywriting/copywriters. When AI does become sentient enough to replace humans when it comes to marketing to humans, I think most types of white collar jobs would also not exist anymore as well. Right now, AI will only make doing our jobs easier and faster. Hope this makes sense and let me know what you think!
Hi Joshua, Thanks for the great idea! I've read even the best AI experts are really split on what year the *singularity* will occur. This information is mostly from my experience so far, but who knows what could happen tomorrow so it's hard to make an accurate prediction with so many unknowns. I will try to do more research and see what I can come up with (:
Hi great Inspirational video, I’m someone who is studying marketing at university and is currently looking for an internship year, How much Excel skills do marketing jobs require? Did you have to take excel courses before getting the job ? I’m currently learning Excel gradually.
Hi Max, That’s an excellent question! When I started my entry level job, I barely knew any Excel. I had to Google everything and ask coworkers. Luckily, most companies are willing to provide training and it’s so much easier to learn through hands on experience on the job. For now, I would focus on learning Vlookups and pivot tables. Those are super helpful tools in marketing and what my subsequent jobs asked about in interviews. Good luck on your journey! :)
Would you say it’s possible to get flexible/ part time digital marketing work online? I’m wanting to see if I can balance another personal project with marketing but I’m feeling doubtful and wonder if full time remote work is just more possible.
It’s really difficult to get clients unless you’re really well-known or you need to cold call. Another way is to find projects on sites like Upwork or Fiver but you need a good portfolio to get picked
Hi, thank you for sharing. I'm looking into a digital marketing career and was wondering what path you recommend I take? I would love to be able to make a 6 figure income as well and really provide for my family.
Hi Andrea! I took an online course in digital marketing then interviewed for a small start up company and continued to learn from there :) I had a bachelor's in biology and a master's in education
hi i am trying to cover more projects in digital marketing, could you explain to me what's your biggest challenge in data driven parts as a marketing specialist ? i mean it can be in a special project or in general way of speaking, appreciate your reply !
Hi! The biggest challenge with working with data is understanding what all the metrics mean. For example, if we are seeing a low CTR then what is happening? Are we getting lower clicks or lower impressions? Is this due to more competition? Irreverent ad copy? Are keywords not aligned with the headlines? Etc
Hi there... Is using excel spreadsheets industry standard? I have seen some companies promoting software to help aggregate some types of digital marketing data. Thanks for any insight!
Hi! Based on my past experience from the past 4 companies I've worked at (from 10 person start ups to Fortune 100s), I've been using Excel. Curious - What companies are promoting software for marketing data?
@@growwithchristine I thought companies like HubSpot or Adverity could connect to various data sources and pull them into one centralized platform. I'm just into my research phase of getting into digital marketing, but I'm coming from a design background. So having a platform that could pull all the data in to one interface and can show it more visually would be helpful for me personally. Excel kind of scares me (LOL) but it sounds like something I'm going to need to get proficient at.
Ooo for viewing and analyzing data we usually use Adobe Analytics or sometimes Tableau. For building ads out, we use Excel. Based on my experience, this will usually be taught. In addition, more of the heavy data analysis would be completed by another person in a role called marketing data analysts
do you need a degree to be a digital marketer? i dont even have an associates degree yet. also curious which company you work for? sounds like such a great company to be a part of with a great work/life balance.

Great video! I've subscribed. For your next video, could you delve into strategic planning? I'm juggling roles as a developer, content creator, and digital marketer. My focus lies in keyword planning, analytics, and ensuring the website maintains relevant keywords, user-friendliness, and strong calls to action for increased conversions. However, as a team of two, I'd really appreciate a video detailing how to strategise each person's role effectively. To be honest, it feels overwhelming managing ads, competitor analysis with tools like SpyFu, and everything else solo.💕

Do you need to be good at maths to do this ?
Hi! No need to be good at math. We always just look up formulas online and plug in numbers. That is the most math needed. So don’t worry!

Hmm well digital marketing has a steep learning curve in the beginning but it’s definitely easier than other tech fields like coding or data science
