Lesser Known Fact: Hurricane Luis generated a rogue wave that hit the Queen Elizabeth 2. Measured at 98.4 ft, it's officially the highest confirmed wave made by a tropical cyclone.
An extremely active Atlantic hurricane season that featured several strong hurricanes. 19 tropical storms formed, the most since 2020, 11 hurricanes formed, the most since 1969, 5 major hurricanes formed and the season produced an ACE value of 228; the fifth most in an Atlantic hurricane season. Four major hurricanes were retired: Luis, Marilyn, Opal and Roxanne. At one point during the season, 4-5 tropical cyclones were active. Multiple Fujiwhara effects resulted due to the tropical cyclones' proximity to one another. August was the most active month of the season, seeing 8 instances of tropical cyclone genesis in the North Atlantic.
