What's even more insane is that Sonic Robo Blast 2 itself...is a DOOM mod.
It's not just a Sonic game. It's a mod for classic DOOM, that turns it into a Sonic game, that people then modded the hell out of. That's why there are 2D sprites in a 3D-looking world.
It’s not a doom mod, it just runs on the same engine as legacy doom.

In general, SRB2 is a much more slower Sonic game than one would initially expect. So of course, Peppino was going to struggle.
He's much more at home with a lot of custom levels since they're much more open, allowing him to gain and keep speed much more consistently.
Is SRB2 to Sonic what Yoshi's Island is to Mario then?

Peppino must be constrained to snow sledding on oil-slicked surfaces because if he ever moved too fast, he'd reverse time and accelerate to an entirely new dimension. This mod was meant to show us the sheer terror of his reign if unchecked.
In other words, this was a ton of fun to watch :D

Love the part where he bumbled around that factory-maze-thingy that I don't think is supposed to be a maze. But I wouldn't know, I have the sense of direction and memory of a Goldfish.

Some things to note if you feel like doing more SRB2:
1. While I personally like 2D Sprites in a 3D environment, there's a setting to turn on 3D Models, although you need to download them separately for most mod characters.
2. There's a setting to flip the camera with your character when you go upside down.
3. There are a SHITLOAD of mod characters, including, addition to most Sonic characters and a bunch of surprisingly fun OCs, a lot of crossover characters. Off the top of my head there is
Mario and Luigi with power ups and sprites based on the RPGs
Mario based on Mario 64 (his acceleration is too high for my taste but still)
Pretty sure there's an NES Mario with basically no special abilities
Bowser
Yoshi including eggs
Kirby including copy abilities.
Meta Knight
The main trio of Deltarune, with dialogue
Samus with support for both first and third person, with dialogue and power ups and a couple of custom bosses.
Duke Nukem and Tails' head on Doom Guy's body
Plague Knight from Shovel Knight
And also a giant mod that turns the game into a Persona 3 clone with Sonic characters.
It's kind of crazy.

This version of Peppino is SOOOO much worse than normal Peppino. Peppino can’t even normally game over in a non-boss fight stage.
And he was STILL better than Sonic. In a Sonic game. I just wish this guy was a little more experienced with Peppino’s kit in this game.
He was using a controller. I used a keyboard and took half the time it took him to get to and beat deep sea zone

If I remember correctly this mod was probably made before the release of the game. it’s the reason peppino controls so awkwardly.

He will have mach dashed through every enemy, be at Le'garde's cell in 2 minutes and then knock over the dungeon's pillars before being out again.
Fear and anxiety only makes him stronger, and hunger... he will never experience with the extra body fat and pizza slices he brought with him.
He might need to get new underwear after that, though.

Peppino won't survive certain encounters, like some bosses. And most enemies will act like Toppin Monsters at best, just insta killing on touch.

If you add a mod titled Pizza Time SpiceRunners, it adds a pizza time escape sequence specifically for this variant of peppino.
As Someone who used to make SRB2 Mods, I consider this an absolute win.

The disappointment on my face when he could’ve played as The(odore) Noise under Peppino, oh I got pissed.
You can alter the settings to fix depth of field, make the camera flip when going upside down so you seem right side up in Black Egg zone, and change the camera from automatic to manual if needed.

I've not tried the Peppino mod for this game yet. There's a lot of cool character mods for this game, though I'm partial to the one that adds Mario and Luigi. The power-ups are cool, though mostly I like it because of their movement. Basically every movement option they have in the 3D games is present, and combining them is a ton of fun.
The amount of rage I felt when you went any wrong way in this game was higher then the homeless man in the back alley

If you're thinking that Peppino being 2D is strange, wait till you find out every sprite is 2D. That is because SRB2 isn't a completely original game. It's a mod - a mod of DOOM to be precise. It's why spaces are 3D and sprites are 2D. This sometimes causes characters to slip and slide off the map.
Calling it a DooM mod isn't entirely accurate - it's simply a game built off of a modified version of the DooM engine. I've always found it a bit strange how srb2 gets referred to as a DooM mod, yet half life is never referred to as a quake mod, despite being built off of a modified version of the quake engine.
@@frostiikin9893 I only refer to it that way because that's what it initially started as. The levels were far more linear then too, and they were rarely ever updated (and when they were, they were normally holiday updates). Eventually, the team behind it decided to make it an actual thing, instead modifying the DOOM engine instead of the game itself. That's when levels started to be their own thing and were updated more too.

An interesting fact in this game is that there's an option that makes a camera change when the gravity changes
Sonic stages are meant as a linear challenges that are done in one way, that do themselves when you start to go fast, while Peppino's Movement relies on broad design to get speed, and do challenges in a variety of ways.
While playing as Peppino, you want to have that control. His movements work in a whole variety of situations and designs.

dude, this is the most accurate recreation of peppino's moveset ever done.
this is normal pizza tower shit and if you really want to go fast just do grab + roll, its even something done in normal pizza tower and the inputs are just exactly copied over to SRB2's LUA and i find that really impressive.
ive beaten this game as both the noise and peppino and i must say it was way easier than doing it as sonic.
its either because i'm lifeless or because you might be playing a bit worse than what was expected.
most likely the case is me being lifeless because i am.

Ok, Peppino CANNOT run on lava. It’s a bug with lava that’s moving downward that allows characters to run on it without taking damage.

The only things which are not really done by me are the menu, some intro and boss animations, some of the basic animation code for jumping, falling etc and taunt (which was still heavily edited but some stuff remains)

So uhhh... in regards to certain sections being harder for Peppino, I have a suggestion. In each Zone, there are Sonic/Tails sections, which are built with speed and height in mind, and Knuckles sections, which account for Knuckles' lower jump and wall climb. Maybe learn where those sections are?

There should be a button combination similar to the dash + down combination in pizza tower that allows you to mach run instantly.

6:23 Not really odd when you realize characters in SRB2 are 2D sprites. Unless you are using the OpenGL Renderer, in that case you can turn on 3D models if there are any for an object (SRB2 has models for all characters and a few objects included with an instal)
Guess I'll tell him the trick : Grab dash + down to slide and dash out of it to get mach 3.
