    Wow. That’s crazy. Some cool jumps caught on cam, but I can’t believe how the kites just dropped out of the sky. What a tricky day. I get the excitement of hopefully having a good day in the forecast only to be let down the day off. I’m currently off on an injury, so I’m just onlooking. Hopefully I get to meet you on a beach somewhere locally soon. Cheers. Hans

      Ya it was a crazy session! Can be very frustrating if you accidentally put the kite too low. Hope the injury heals soon and we see you on the water sometime 🤙

    OMG 😱 some situations could have ended much worse. Lots of emulation I think, but I see also that kite helmets are not trendy in Toronto. Considering the surrounding, it could add some safety
    Anyway, good to see fellow kitesurfers enjoying their spot

    Excellent informative video. I'm in MI, not too far from you guys and saw a similar effect this past weekend. Barely any whitecaps, cold water, hot air... lots of power once you got a kite up. We didn't have quite the completely dead air at the surface but absolutely saw the +5 knots (or more) at height. Keep up the vids.

    It's so funny to watch, is this sport easy to learn? What does the equipment need? Are you a club or a fan?

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  3 года назад

      It’s not the easiest sport to learn - lessons from a proper instructor are required. Best to take lessons before investing into gear to see if it’s something you enjoy and stick through the learning curve :)

    I'm thinking about moving to Toronto, are the typical days like this? That launch spot just looks quite risky

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  3 года назад +1

      This launch spot is risky. It’s hot launch only, it’s busy, and the spot itself is deep with rocks and rebar. We don’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t intermediate+. There are a few other spots in Toronto that are safer - Cherry Beach, Ashbridges, Marie Curtis are the main ones. Wouldn’t say this is a typical day of kiting. We get some very steady S/SW winds in Toronto. East winds can also be quite good (especially if you enjoy waves).

    • @earthlingkevin
      @earthlingkevin 3 года назад

      @@OurKiteLife got it. Thanks! Cherry beach is the one I heard about. Whats this one?

    Terabyte, very funny. Gigaflop doesn't have the same ring. How long can you stay in 5C water? I guess it depends on how much you land in the water.

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  3 года назад

      It’s not pleasant but with thick wetsuit and booties it’s manageable. The sunshine also helps - but swimming is very chilly!

    • @marklewis2576
      @marklewis2576 3 года назад

      @@OurKiteLife respect! Hey I'm wearing a 5mm diving suit in our cold westerly winds in the subtropics in winter, water temp gets as low as 17c 😂 but our air is humid so my Polish friend says he feels the air is colder here than in Poland. It's around 10-15/20-25C here . My problem is that grabs are so hard in a diving suit. It's like a rubber band at my back stopping me. I guess it's resistance training & I'll be better in the summer? 😂 Others wear a 2/3mm but they only last 1 hour & can't feel their extremities 😂😂😂 Teaspoon of concrete?

  • @hhiibbaalleerr
    @hhiibbaalleerr 3 года назад

    never heard of this phenomenon before...so, thanks. Is that why you guys fly foils so much? Do foils "overfly" as easy as tubes?

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  3 года назад +1

      sonics do overfly, souls don't. Foil stay in air longer than inflatables and easier to relaunch in light winds, so yeah thats why we fly foil kites as they perform outstanding given our conditions

  • @autokanada

    My opinion kites and dogs dont mix ( chewing on bars and lines, walking on the kite , laying on the kite when you want to launch, running towards you and getting tangled with the lines when you want to launch the kite, jumping to the water after you then looking for rescue then dog realizing he cannot make it to the shore and drowning )

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  3 года назад +2

      Not all dogs are meant to be on the beach for the reasons you mention. But if you train them young they can be very well behaved in a variety of circumstances. The fact that Yuri and I take turns on one kite means that she’s supervised by one of us and not free to get into trouble.
