  • After 5 years of being natural, I decided to CUT MY HAIR!!. It was a hard decision. but I finally decided to move forward with it after months of discussing it with my fiance. It was thinning, my hair was falling out, and just not growing... Although, I’m a bit disappointed with the progress of my hair, I’ve decided that it’s ok to start over. Being a kinky 4b 4c natural, there is so much more work that is required. But, The Roots Naturelle product line is going to help get me back on track! I love everything about these products! They had my tapered cut on point. I hope that you all enjoy this video. Be sure to like, comment and subscribe XOXO

You look amaaazing! I know some people get upset when white people are so fascinated by black people's hair, but for me, as a white girl, I think your hair is soooo pretty and I love learning about how you manage it and keep it looking so nice. My hair is brown and straight and long and I love it but I've always thought curly hair is gorgeous too!! Your story is so inspiring and watching your videos really helps me be more conscious of how I can include God more in my life.

Been natural for 10 years (with 3-4 big chops) and I went through the same thing. It was bra strap/mid back length but started falling out due to stress. (My hair in the center was also short like yours). I switched to a plant based diet and my hair is sooooooo much stronger now. I cut it last summer and I felt so liberated. My hair is sooooo much stronger now. The plant based diet made the difference in many ways. I highly recommend making your body ALKALINE. Oh, and your hair looks great and I also cut my hair into a similar style. Also, I realized my hair doesn’t like wigs and braids. My 4C hair doesn’t like too many protective styles. When you are tired of your hair or don't feel like being bothered with it, IT WILL NOT GROW. How you feel about your hair (I won't love it until it's a certain length) will affect the health of your hair. The people whose hair flourishes the most usually wear their own hair at least half of the time. Protect it in the winter, but any other season wear it and moisturize your own hair every day.

I just big chopped 2.5 weeks ago. Best decision ever! My hair too was breaking (due to stress) it was brittle, the middle/crown was short and ugh lol so I went to natural resources here in houston and chopped! Now I adopt a simple routine...wash and condition, and deep conditioner moisturize with a water/aloe juice/conditioner mixture daily and/or wet it in the shower. I also make sure I'm getting proper nutrients including omega 3s, iron and bamboo tea. My hair is already flourishing! Couldn't be happier! Good luck with your hair love :)

Ms Mary, your hair needs more moisture I have 4b 4c hair more 4b, mix oils like coconut, a little castor oil, argan oil and some rosemary massage lightly. I lay on my back and let my head hang over the edge of the bed and massage, and your finance can do this for you too, but be light handed. I had bald patches in my scalp from wearing weaves with little maintenance, this grew back my hair amazingly. Natural 4b 4c hair needs moisture, I lightly spray it with rosewater too, I do this about every 3 days. Years ago a woman told me to do the massaging and it literally made my afro like feather light with movement like I had 3c hair.

I just cut my hair because of same issue. I've been natural 10 years and it seems like I cut my hair every 3 years (myself) because the back middle of my hair never catches but I finally learned after all these years moisture moisture moisture. I also have 4b 4c hair. Love the cut and you are beautiful with and without makeup.

You did that???!! I saw the pic on Instagram and thought you looked GORGEOUS. I cannot believe you did the cut yourself Mary. Omg! And how about those healthy edges?!!!! We have the exact same texture. I’m just loving everything about your channel and about you. You are such an inspiration. I love your vibe, I love your passion, and I love getting notifications from your channel. I received my unit from Her given hair (the Kinky textured full lace wig that you inspired me to get) and I’m excited about it. It is as you say “official y’all”. It is gorgeous!! I will probably tag you in a pic once I get together 😊. Thank you 😘

Very, very nice. You look amazing and did a fantastic job! I have thick course hair. I have no idea of my hair type is now (maybe 4A-4C it has definitely changed). When I was younger (before the creamy crack stage began), I would say my hair was a 3C/4A my dad had 3C Hair and my mom has 4C Hair. My hair was very similar to my dad’s. But since the creamy crack, stress, medications, lack of healthy life style my hair just would not act right. I decided to “LET GO AND LET GOD” and I did a mini big chop 12/17 and started protective styling with weaves. After two installations I am ready to big chop (4/18)! I will still protective style but with a wig(s). No more sew-ins. Your video was very inspiring and you look beautiful! Good job!

You did a superb job. Have you weighed in on the negative effects of prolong protective styles such as wigs and weaves? I have recently decided to go on a no wigs or weaves challenge for 6 months. I decided to take a break from those types of protective styles because my hair wasn’t flourishing. My 4a/4b hair was thirsty and needed some tlc on a weekly basis. Its been a few weeks and I’m starting to see major changes. My hair is absorbing even more moisture and my scalp is not sore. Hope this helps, Mary!

I’m currently going through the same thing. I have 4b/4c hair and I suffered heat damage last year, it was difficult having the two textures and I was cutting off gradually but now I’m tired of it. I’ve been deciding to cut off months now and I’m finally about to do it. I think the lord directed me to this video cuz even HE was tired of my holding on to this dead hair! LOL also my middle refuses to grow as well as the rest of my hair, so BIG CHOP IT IS! So glad you shared this! It looks amazing.

Your hair looks fabulous...and you're so beautiful! You have me itching to cut mine off for the millionth time but I'm going to stay strong on this growth journey, lol. As for the issues with your crown, I have a similar hair type and have dealt with the very same issue in the very same area -- breakage, thinning, etc. -- but now my crown is flourishing.
What worked was cutting off the dead ends and sectioning that area separately from the rest of my hair during moisturizing and deep conditioning. Since I started doing this my hair has thickened in that area, it has stopped breaking and is growing rapidly, which surprised me because I was convinced that was the slowest growing area of my hair. I think that area just requires more moisture than the rest, which is why sectioning into more than four has helped. Hope these tips help you with your new, healthier hair! And congrats on your pending nuptials!!!

Ms Naturally Mary you did well cutting your hair. I couldn't have done it. See my sister is a hair stylist. But she lives in Indiana and I live in Arizona. So I would have to get a plane ticket to fly to her. Can't afford it right now. And I'm afraid to have anyone else cut my hair. I let a African American women cut my hair to help her out with her business, and girl she stund my hair. It took my hair along time to grow back.(1year) I was so upset. So now I get products that I see on your channel. Thank you ❤️. God bless.

I’m so glad that I watched this video, even though it wasn’t a tutorial (which I was looking for) this is the only video I needed to see. I also am rededicating my life to God and it’s so funny how God is showing himself in small ways that are big through signs. First I saw a sparrow in the sky, then a lady prayed with me at Bealls and now this video. Praise God!!! I don’t ever want to live without him again. Thank you for this video the song, it really encouraged me. 💕 peace and love unto you.

I understand what you mean, but hair is one of those things that can "look" good but not necessarily be healthy, and while we see Mary's hair on her channel, we don't actually see it up close, feel it or handle it on a daily basis, so she sees and feels several things that we don't. I went through a similar experience this year and had to cut off 10 inches of hair, everyone was really confused because they didn't see the damage and my hair was still growing, but I knew it and could feel it, and after praying about it God confirmed that I needed to let it go for it to grow in healthy. Now that it has grown out, everyone can see the HUGE difference, it's like night and day! My hair has never been healthier and it acts nothing like it used to, it's so much easier to manage. So you may not be able to understand now, but in time, you'll see that her hair will be healthier, lol so definitely stay tuned!
