The Women was the first Kristin Hannah books that I actually finished. I couldn’t put it down! I DNF’d Firefly Lane and The Great Alone. I may try the Great Alone again some time. But The Women- a definite 5 star read. Yes. I balled my eyes out.

All libraries in the U.S. have a system which allows the libraries to borrow books from any library in the United States. Thee is even a service that looks for a book outside of the U.S., if your library subscribes to it. Have you used these avenues to look for the books you are missing? If not, ask your local library.

You could try interlibrary loan (ILL) at your public library. (This is different from borrowing books within your library system. They will look for the book in libraries all across the US.) If you're public library doesn't offer this service, you could check with a nearby university library. Good luck!

I read "The Great Alone" and it is the only one of her books I have read. I would put it squarely in the category of romance . I am not a fan of romance and this book didn't change my mind at all. I ended up skimming about half way through as I was bored. I only finished because it was for a book club. In general, I think romance novels deal in cliches as did this book. I also think this genre is manipulative of the reafders" emotions. So, your rating her books on how much you cried makes sense since manipulating emotion is the point of the book. The book was good in the world building aspect but I just really didn't feel the characters as real people.

I've read When Lightning Strikes! I found it at a thrift store last year. The premise is pretty interesting and I liked the very end, but there are some questionable elements and it's really not up to her current standards. Not that I would necessarily expect it to be, of course!

    • @BekahBooksandBujo

I love Kristin Hannah books also, and have read I think 7 or 8 at this point. I haven’t gotten to Winter Garden yet and now I really want to! Magic Hour and Night Road were two of my favorites. I also enjoyed the friendship in Firefly Lane but actually enjoyed the show more, even with the changes they made. Home Front is my least favorite that I’ve read-I just didn’t like or care about the characters in that one, it was still well written, just wasn’t for me.
I really like the more contemporary family/friendship related ones and am not a big fan of historical fiction so was bummed when she started moving that direction. However, I gave The Nightingale a try after all the hype and absolutely loved it. The Kristin Hannah character work was still there pulling at my heartstrings. I’m slowly working my way through her work again now with the newer books.
