I hate that I discovered your channel - and more importantly: your advice - decades after having bought a couch... To the youngsters watching this channel, and who are reading this, listen up: Once you've bought that couch, it becomes incredibly hard to get rid of. Never let go of your independence, and never go a year without adventure. For God's sake, don't swap your freedom for money. I've had a great career so far, and I make plenty of money... but I miss simplicity, this is complicated. That's what I love so much about Dan and Kika's videos: they are in places where anyone would be uncomfortable, but even in a squall beating to windward, I can see a smile on each of their faces. Like they know... they get it: no amount of money, and no amount of comfort and security will make you as happy as the ability to spread your wings and go over a horizon if you so choose.
Dan and Kika: you're amazing at what you do. The tenderness you have for each other is worthy of being jealous of. I suspect it is something that is born out of sharing a life together the way you are. You are in each other's company all the time. I suppose it can be the cause of some friction as well - that would be normal. The point is that you guys are amazing to each other, as well as to your viewers. Thanks for being so open and for letting us share your adventures - even if it is from a wretched couch... for now! Lots of love from my house to yours.

Seeing your last video saddened us. Not in the way you might think. We discovered your channel when an episode, Step 288, appeared on our screen. We watched and immediately started at the beginning. We've watched 3 to 4 episodes a day as we'd eat breakfast or lunch. It took us a while but we reached Step 307 this afternoon..... After watching multiple episodes....we how have to wait for the next one...and that makes us sad. We've owned 4 sailboats, starting with a 22ft and finishing with a 37 ft Hunter Cutter. That marks a span of 41 years. We sold Encore in Dec 2019. It began to be a chore to prep and launch. Seems a 37ft hull gets 3ft longer each spring as I waxed it twice. We really enjoy your adventures and wish you many more years of passage making. BTW this episode had you a motoring in a Scottish canal. We followed another RUclips channel, Silver Foxes as they cruised many UK canals in their narrow boat. They also contained interesting information about the area they cruised, including the Scottish canals. Stay safe out there. Jim and Jan

I hope this 'fix' works for you as well. I can not wear ear plugs for more than about an hour due to pain as well. Try this...Find the old style, open cell foam, barrel style ear plugs. Usually white-ish, no shaping, just a cylinder. Cut off about 3mm from an end. Try different amounts for your ear if that does not work. I know, makes no difference to the size it expands to - I have no idea why it works for me but it does. 5 hour plane trips, no problem now.

Kika, I have the same problem with earplugs. The ones that go in my ears cause me terrible pain and wake me up too. I highly recommend Macks silicone putty earplugs (in the USA) but I imagine other brands would work as well. I cut them in half. Each pair lasts 1 to 2 weeks, so a pack lasts between 4 to 6 months. Good luck! Love following your travels.

*RE EARPLUGS: Have you tried Honeywell Max Lite Single-Use SNR 34. They are colored green.* They can be used more than once. They'll get a little 'ear-waxy' after a while... but then you just start on a new pair. But I'm actually a ~1,86 meter tall dude though, so my ear canals might be a little bit bigger than yours. Those plugs are the softest that I know of and you just have to stuff in just enough to get a really good seal. You don't have to shove in the whole plug.

I had the same issue with foam earplugs. I now cut the length down half the size, roll them between my fingers insert pushing all the way in. I found the length was the issue. If they stick out of the ear that’s what caused the ear discomfort

I find a feather down pillow helps.....create a dish cavity where your ear will lie using your hand and that takes all the pressure off when lying on your side. With foam pillows you can't create a depression but feathers can be moved around to suit

...and what a darling creature Kika. I say 'creature' because it is more inclusive than "human". Just love her.

U can try to put some soundproofing foams along the boat to silence squeaky noises 🤷‍♀️

Kika, I have same issues with earplugs! Solution was Boots (chemist) wax earplugs called ‘muffles’. Remove any fluff. Warm them in your hand for a few minutes until soft, then push gently home, not inboard. You’ll hear your heartbeat, nothing else. Good for 8 hours but even then begin to feel hot but not painful. Don’t use those expanding foam things, they’re quite evil. Thanks Guys!

Enjoyed your sailing in my home waters off the West of Scotland and down by the IOM. My how fortunate you were with the wind and weather. It’s not normally so kind.

Well, we waited for that specific weather… That’s why we took it! For any passage we take, If the weather isn’t favorable enough for us to sail, we don’t sail, and wait for a better window.

I like watching you guys because you show it as it is, uncomplicated, as it happens. Don't edit out too much because they can be the best shots. Look forward to episode.
