This is exactly the evolution I wanted all along. Elements of the past that identify Within Temptation in an updated song. The choir, the orchestrations, the solo violin, some growls, mixed with some electronica to make it fresh. The return of Sharon's higher soprano at the end brought me to tears. This is what I wanted.
I agree! This is what should have followed after The Unforgiving, in my opinion. But I realize it's not always that simple and I'm glad the band still arrived here in the end.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's shed a tear over this lol... I was kinda skeptical about their new sound at first but I think I'm growing used to it and hell, they still go so hard..!
If it will be ever released... the album disappeared form NuclearBlast shop and Universal Music Poland changed the release date to 30.01.19 ... -.- Guy from the NB shop told me that they were informed about the delay too.
I still can't believe there are people who think this album is their worst. This is my favorite album from them by far, and I just cannot get enough of it. The heart and sheer emotional power of it is so raw, and the meaning is not lost. I fear the day the world actually comes to this.

When i saw her performance live in Düsseldorf, it was amazing and how much emotion she put into the song. I will never forget how she performed it......breathtaking
I think we all know that Sharon's magical head voice is what is the true sound of WT. I absolutely ADORE her chest voice, like in Faster, but og WT? It's this beautiful head voice!
How gorgeous is that final stretch, from 4:45 until the end? The vocals, the lyrics, the beautiful background images/graphics, especially the transition to the snow at 4:55? What a comeback.
Even 3 years later this remains one of my favourite newer songs 4.40 still takes me back to the heart of everything, I like this direction, I also really, really like The Purge....and Shed my Skin. It's a welcome and a fresh return of Sharon's higher vocals which I hope will continue.
When I heard "The Reckoning" I thought, "meh", but it grew on me and is now high on my playlist. "Raise Your Banner" just jumped the line. I'm super stoked for the rest of the album.
Fantastic production, overwhelming emotions, epic songwriting, not to mention Sharons vocals. As a WT fan for 15 years, i highly approve of this. This album will be a staple for modern epic metal music.
I've loved Within Temptation's music for more than 10 years. I'm also more of a casual fan that'll "check in" every few years to see what new music they have. I just listened to this for the first time about 2-3 weeks ago and my jaw DROPPED at the outro. This, This. All of this. THIS is why I love WT. I think my jaw is still on the floor.
This song is freaking amazing, no questions asked. The atmosphere, the screams, the melody, the lyrics, the guitar solo; and of course Sharon’s epic high notes at the end. 10/10 go WT!

This so intense, a summary of all the albums you've been through so far. It sounds like 'paradise', voice feeling like 'the unforgiving' with a touch of HoE/Mother earth at the end, and a layer of growling like in the first album. With an addition of deeper electro sounds? And it works!! Wow

I like this song's rhythm structure. Really interesting how different sections emphasize counting 2 versus 4 triplets per measure. They've pulled off 12/8 very nicely, with the different layers of the song fully utilizing the compound nature of the time signature. Some instruments are there to amp up the energy, and others have a plodding, epic effect, and they are happening simultaneously. Not sure if I'm describing this the right way, but it's a cool song to dig into.
I always preferred Within Temptation heavier rock songs over their slower music, slow music just isn't my style. A Demon's Fate, Murder, Blue Eyes, songs along those lines was always the ones I preferred. So Raise Your Banner and The Reckoning, hell yea these songs are right up my style and perfect for me. So I hope they keep dropping more music like this, this stuff is epic.

An interesting merge between within temptation and in flames, i like it those screaming and the vocals of sharon, keep it that way but don't let the screams to steal all the focus of the vocals, as long as none of them taking over the other and they're both completing each other it can work great!

The heart of everything was the last album I really liked with them, since then it's just been down hill... This just sounds like Generic metal or something.. Nothing epic about their music anymore. It's just sad. My opinion, don't mean to hate, just sayin'.
I just can watch the video again and again...and it always reminds me of the time last year, when the video was released and I was waiting for the album to come out...and what can I say, it was worth the waiting sooo much, probably the best album of the year. Thank you so much for it

Lyrically, I love the line "They're setting fire to the flame"...reminds me of some of the lyrics in "Iron" and "Truth Beneath the Rose". Most importantly, the message, the moral, is: When you are going through Hell, keep pushing. Never give up, never surrender...because just when you think you can't go any further, that's when the breakthrough will happen. Never lose hope.

Ironically, perhaps, 2020 showed the fatal flaw of the Democrat party and its policies, which is, for the longest time, they held both the minority vote, and the working class vote, yet Trump significantly increased the numbers of black voters, Hispanic voters, Asian voters, and overall working class voters. With the rioting, looting, and arson in Democrat cities, people who have been liberal, sometimes for years, decided to walk away from the Democrat party, because they realized everything they had been told was wrong. I listened to the last 40 seconds a dozen times. I loved it, shades of the past. And I'm glad the whole song isn't like that. They've captured the new and old together perfectly. Awesome guitar solo too

Its definitly harder then the records before. But its not that far away. For me it sounds like Power Metal. But this way is great for them. Every Album i fear that my lovely bands lose their Face but WT really dont losing their faces. This album will be a great mix from Symphonic to Power Metal. Its so good.

With the rioting, looting, and arson in Democrat cities, people who have been liberal, sometimes for years, decided to walk away from the Democrat party, because they realized everything they had been told was wrong. This was a betrayal of the worse kind -- and particularly the kind of betrayal spoken of in the lyrics to this song.
Perhaps most importantly, many of us who did support Trump, did so, because the alternatives were much worse. In 2016, had HRC been elected, we would have gone to war with Russia, at minimum, perhaps even China. With 2020, Biden has shown himself to be a doddering old fool in the early onset of dementia, and as a result, has basically let everything get so bad, and made such a huge mess of things, that his administration is a joke -- and all because....what? You got your "feewings" hurt by something Trump said? Why would you let him live rent-free in your head? Plus, every charge ever leveled at Trump -- everything, from the Nazi label, to the white supremacist label, to the fascist label, to being falsely accused of colluding with Russia and Putin -- was shown to be both a fabrication, and a lie. Yet, people who were against Trump got TDS so bad they couldn't see what the man did right in the White House.
I listened to the last 40 seconds a dozen times. I loved it, shades of the past.
And I'm glad the whole song isn't like that. They've captured the new and old together perfectly. Awesome guitar solo too

Its definitly harder then the records before. But its not that far away. For me it sounds like Power Metal. But this way is great for them. Every Album i fear that my lovely bands lose their Face but WT really dont losing their faces. This album will be a great mix from Symphonic to Power Metal. Its so good.
