Thanks for making this video. I found it 7 years ago and it’s one of the videos that got me interested in synthesizers! You never know what kind of impact you’ll have on the lives of others.
Thanks A Million Monkeys! I really appreciate that. :) I gave this one away a long time ago but I'll probably get more at some point. Since this video I've scored a ton of films and a couple of games. :) All it takes is a little dedication to being insane. :D
@@AMillionMonkeys I am a complete hack! Anyone with talent can make it if I can! If love to see some of your work! I'm currently out working but I'll check out some videos when I'm back if you've got them!
@@ChanWalrus That's even more encouraging but I think you're being hard on yourself! I would be honored if you listened, thanks for offering! My latest video is my best work to date and features some arpeggiator action: ruclips.net/video/XACyeb8eK1I/видео.html
I'm running the MK through a pair of JBL JRX115s and a 1600 watt Behringer powermixer and the sound is awesome enough to shake the rafter beams aside from a clean sound. You will never get bored with the possiblities of this tool.
Very cool. My feeling is that the Korg just doesn't produce good sounds though. If you gig live with this, it ends up sounding really funny though the P.A.
Thanks! To be honest I havn't the foggiest, I've messed around with just about every preset I could. Any decent bassline sound you can create, once arpeggiated sounds beastly ^^
It depends on the speaker system, you can produce some amazing sounds if you set up your amp right. I use a guitar amp I think. (Currently loaned it, and can't remember!)
Taught me 'something', I didn't know. Sounds good to me. I'm going to have to get one. Watch 'Afro Celt Sound System' LIVE concert, to see it in Action, with the Vocoder. Music is 'always' Contextual to 'what' you're playing at the Moment. That's 'why', Playing in a 'Live Band', and/or, multiple DJs, is 'where its at'.
Someone has to remaster this with a pure audio out signal so the sound of the clicking keys and creaking material can be removed. I say this because, despite being a skit to test chords, this is really quite amazing. That said, since it’s a test, it makes sense that it’s just you videoing it. I also think you can edit those sounds out with enough work, which I may figure out myself or get someone else to do. But the music was very clear. Did you get the audio directly from the Synth, or did you just have an amazing speaker system?
Hey man, sorry to come calling back over a year later, but I’m attempting to remake the song and record it directly from the amp. Any advice on how to achieve this sound? Each time I try on my synth, I get really close then fall way behind and end up ruining a preset.
I just picked one up at a pawn shop for $99US. Sorry guys! 😏 I'm about to get an Ultranova for about $140, too! Both in pristine like-new condition. Again, apologies....
I find deals like that all the time. I just bought a $1000 US Fender Stratocaster for $325, and I got some $300 studio monitors for $79/pair... There's stuff out there cheap, you just have to look..
I believe this is happening because he keeps switching the lower notes so when he is holding one low note while playing higher notes you'll hear all notes until he changes the low note then it cuts off the higher ones and only plays the most recently pressed key. I hope this makes sense.
I think I can explain further if you still need clarification. As far as I know, what is happening can be accomplished 2 ways. What seems to be going on here is the program only has one layer with two oscillators running at the same time. One osc is at a normal pitch while the other has been lowered in octaves. This way the one osc acts as the lead sound while the other plays underneath like a bass. Another way to do this which I'm going to try at home right now, is to have 2 layers. This way you can not only have the bass and lead but also a second layer with a mid-range and upper-range osc's. This will even allow for more craziness. I'm kind of excited. Gotta dust off the old microKorg now!
Ther are ten korg prducts at the core of my studio.A Kronos , two microkorgs , two kaossilators , a kaos quad two monotribes , a MS 20 mini , and an electribe. I love them all and could not do what I do without them !!! All (almost) are conncted MIDI and can be cross processed easily through a Hosa patchbay..It is NONSENSE to say Korg does not make good sounds. I suppose though that if you have a crappy live sound setup and do not know what you are doing....
I think it's because I filmed it on a very poor quality camera using a stagg guitar amplifier. As for weather I know what I'm doing... I've only scored over 70 independent films... So I'm a bit of a newbie to be honest! :D
this is all good and eveything but the korg synthesiser since it has presets of sounds is making it easier for any auidence to play, However I do stress that for individuals who truly want to create their own sound and not follow a preset of sounds in a synth library there should be a cheap alternative. I know Garage band and logic pro go hand in hand and can get a free version (i think).
+Tommy Chappell You are aware that the Microkorg can be programmed with custom patches, right? And that the presets are absolute garbage and so makes using custom sounds just about essential? This thing is no more "easy" to use than the majority of synths released in the mid-80's.
+capthowitzer You're totally right about the presets, they're awful! (I liked one or two.) You've gotta spend hours to get the right sounds on this baby, but she's worth it! :D I prefer my microkorg to 90% of the synths I've worked with. She feels pretty analog at times which is really rare. :D I use her for a lot of the music I output. :D

duuuude! this is just crying out for a TR-909 synced to it with some 4 to the floor goodness. Ibiza in the late nineties.
You're pretty damn close to having an 80's hit!
Sort of like a Depeche Mode tune.
A Man is a God creature, and God blessed all man with divine artistic creative talent, that's piece of arpegiator with this korg is great music.

@@ChanWalrus I'll take a synth or midi keyboard if you ever want to give another away :) great video btw
This is one of the coolest uses of a microKorg that I've seen. Very awesome stuff dude.
Thanks :) I miss being able to play, to be honest. My hands are so awful nowadays that I always hit the wrong notes XD
The most useful keyboard ever
Lots of old Tangerine Dream there… Lovely sound.

That's quite a groovy theme, sorry I ddin't get back to you sooner sirrah!

So beautiful... it really is.
This is awesome!
Thanks! :) Love you! xxx
ChanWalrusMusic Love you too bro ;_; love you too!!
nice experimental stuff.. I think its a nice point to start with..
experimental? This just sounds like any early 90's analogue dance music. Not that it's a bad thing, just not exactly experimental

very airdrawndagger nice arps!! :)

lovely stuff chan.sounds a bit like ultravox.howard jones jammin, clan of xymox or xmal deutschland.eighties cool band.very nice.keep going
+holadonkey Hehe thanks ^^ I'm a hack but the compliment really makes me happy! :D
Interesting what you are doing with the Microkorg's arpeggiator here. Simple but effective arp improvisation.
Thank you very much! XD
This is pure inspiration and love for electronic music.
That's very nice!! :D I like it!
Thank you very much! Due to my speakers being bust I rarely make microkorg videos anymore! :(
Reminds me of Enter Shikari without the crazy drum machine patterns

I have no idea! XD I reworked from scratch. XD
this is kinda com truisey and i like it a lot. i assume you also have the internal delay enabled on the MK?
+Kris Keyser I love using delay, you can make some beautiful sounds with it. ^^ I think I probab ly use it too much though.
Love it!
how do you get the arpeggiator on the bass but a different effect on your right hand? just wondering
The effect is the same. :) The difference just doesn't sound as much with the deeper notes.

Hi Tom! :D I just used a standard stagg guitar amp, set me back 200 quid, :) it's been a long time since I've used either of them. :)
Alex O'Neil
Ah, Okay, so a nice amp.
Thanks!

Yeah, it's a killer synth, too, I just wish I was better with keyed instruments. The arpeggiator and recording software helps immensely, though😜!

Ok brandon
Need a solid surface to play on. It's kinda wobbly!
I've never had complaints! ;)
wow this is fcking amazing.. i need to get one of these.. i wish i researched keyboards more before i started buying shit
How do you set it up so that the arpeggio only follows the bass?
I'm not quite sure what you mean, I set it up pretty simply so it only worked on one octave.
I believe this is happening because he keeps switching the lower notes so when he is holding one low note while playing higher notes you'll hear all notes until he changes the low note then it cuts off the higher ones and only plays the most recently pressed key. I hope this makes sense.
Makes more sense than any explanation I could give :P
