Your points are all very valid. I have a tank full of red cherries. I love these guys. But there are so many fish keeps looking to offload their RCS so the price gets lower. On the other hand, the blue ones and yellows have low supply, which allows them to command a higher price.
Ive been keeping fish on and off for 30 years. But I've always only done guppies, betta, Oscars and convicts. 2 years ago I set up a 20 with a betta, ember tetras and corydoras (which I just lost, I'm in central texas and went 12 days with no power and an inside temp of 32°). Now that I am starting over I'm looking to "branch out" and explore different species. These videos are helping me out a lot. There are so many options lol I have a 10, 15, 20 and soon will have a 55 after I finish the restoration, all which now need stocked. Thanks for the help! (Sorry for the long post)
Guppies are very profitable if you find the right strain. I have Full Red Albinos. They're absolutely gorgeous and fetch a decent price. The biggest downfall of these guppies though, is that they're not hardy at all. I bred my female about 4 times. The first batch did really well. The second and third died of skin flukes very fast. With the fourth one, half of them died of skin flukes too. I treated them, and the skin flukes returned. After about 7 months from a successful batch, I think I'm finally starting to get the fry to survive again. So my advice is that if you want to get guppies, make sure the strain is beautiful, and hardy

For me I picked some of the albino Platinum guppies that look like yours in the one tank with the (super red bristlenose? I hope that's what kind he was 🤔😁) mine have the blue shimmer to the tail.they are definitely a little more challenging than regular guppies but they're so beautiful! I have a reciprocal unspoken arrangement with my local pet shop. You are never going to make a huge amount of money from guppies unless you have a specific strain and are able to sell to the right audience. I have some quite nice guppies but they are never going to win any prizes, however, my pet shop can sell them any day of the week to your average fish tank owner who just wants something pretty swimming about; they don't care about the genetics or anything else, they just want a red one, a yellow one and one with a pretty pattern on it's tail. I breed them (takes no effort at all) and I give them away to my pet shop; we have never discussed money, I just give them away. What do I get out of it? - simple, my pet shop gives me fish food in exchange. I don't ask them what profit they make and to be honest I don't care, if they can make some money from them that's good for them, it keeps them in business which benefit me. I give them guppies for nothing and in exchange they give me fish food which I then feed to the guppies which I give back to them. At the end of the day everybody is happy and when I want some other fish, barbs or tetras etc I get them at trade price plus a stack of food. I just swapped 30 guppies for 10 Siamese algae eaters and 10 Rosie barbs - they cost me nothing.
I've never given any fish to my LFS, but I do buy a lot from them, engage them in conversation when it's not busy, and stay out of their way when it is! They've definitely given me the occasional good deal on a fish or plant, or dropped an extra fish in the bag when I'm getting a group, taken a plant off driftwood for me when they didn't have any potted, and tracked down a special order plant that I really wanted (anubias lanceolata). Having a good relationship with them definitely pays off! Oh, and the drop-off donation fish that they get (unwanted guppy fry, raggedy bettas, etc) get put into their plant tanks. So when I'm standing around lusting after all the expensive greenery, I end up feeling sorry for or falling in love with the fish, and often end up taking them home!
I know it's not fish but mystery snails, red cherry shrimp, with red root floaters. It's easier to sell snails than I thought, and it covered my fish food budget for a long time :)
I know im late to the video. this really helps me spark my creativity and think outside the box. My goal is just to use what I have available to me and have fun with it. Thanks for the great content!

Great series. How old is your son now? Would he be interested in doing a breeding for profit series? I think it would be interesting to see a full setup, maintenence, grow out, then sale to a store from his perspective. Of course with your guidance along the way.
My oldest is 16 now and is in charge of the maintenance components of the fish room. He still has a couple breeding projects he does, but nothing crary. :-)
Great series my man, as many times as I wish to strengthen the hobby, I prefer to just do my own biotopes. I agree with working with what comes out of your tap, we recently moved from great hard water to super soft water, making it work but now looking more towards to species that fit those parameters. I have a 40 Breeder, with CPD and mixed stuff, but my 3 10gs will be used for breeding CPD and blue Neos now just for that show tank. I will check out the peacock gudgeons vid, just wondering if you bred CPD, maybe a vid on that would be great, most of the vids online are mediocre but your editing is superb. keep up the great content. Nice,you hit the nail on the head getting ready to set up a panda cory tank got people asking for them. Had a colony that I cleaned out to make room for another project and they breed like rabbits.
Do you think that Endlers would be a good alternative to guppies? I've recently become very interested in Endlers having seen a few recently at the local pet store. Also about Cory cats. Interesting that you mentioned that the albinos aren't popular. Remember not too long ago when they used to be EVERYWHERE? As a kid in the 80's and then even up to about 10 years ago they seemed to be in pretty much every freshwater community section pretty much anywhere you went. I've been looking around at my local Petco and Petsmart locations, a few other smaller stores, and there wasn't a single albino cory to be found until I got to a locally owned store and finally found a few of my beloved albino cory cats. And I was incredibly surprised at how hard it was to locate a few. The Petcos, Petsmarts, etc had different varieties, I don't know all of the #'s and whatnot but there were plenty of Corys, just zero albinos. I really hope that the happy little albino corys don't get left behind and fade out of the hobby. They have been a staple of every single community aquarium that my parents had, and that i've had.

Great video again Jason I'm breeding Blue bolt shrimp, Neo firey shrimp and Peacock moss in my 50 gallon i use the neos as canaries so if only they swim I know its a breeding active if the Blues and Fiery swim a lot I know there maybe a water issue, I also breed Koi Red Tuxedo guppies Blue Ramshorn Snail and Xmas moss in my 10 gallon surprisingly I make the most money out of Blue Bolt Cardinias about $50 each and Blue rams horns snails $10 each because they breed like crazy my next breeding trial will be rams :) I thought snails where something else you could have added to that Cherry/Moss tank to add another income stream Cheers :)

I have watched this particular series three times 😂🤣 And even though the dwarf puffer is not in it I find myself very interested in breeding them. They are a very interesting little fish. Am I crazy for wanting to breed them? Will they bring in enough income to help support the hobby? I'm wanting to go with a thirty gallon Long tank And I am a beginner at this. I live in florida and I want something rare but fun to breed and if possible Easy to flip to help support the hobby. Does anything come to mind lol. I need help Brother so many options.
these fish you mentioned is very easy. so easy they will breed without your permission 😜😜. especially if water conditions are consistent.. but the question is how do you package them for shipping
Shrimp is an awesome idea. There are pure color lines that don't require culling. Best place for ur shrimp needs is Detroit shrimp and aquatics here on youtube
Next shrimp tank I setup will be for caradinas since they breed true unlike neos. Hate when one or two culls slip by and end up mating, such a pita to catch them all lol.
It’s not a real big money maker, but I’ve been successfully breeding Gardneri killifish in a 10 gallon with very little work. I just packed it full of dwarf sag, micro swords, suswassertang, hornwort etc and now my pair spawn everyday. Once a week I spend about a half hour watching for fry and then I suck them up with a turkey baster and then grow them out in plastic shoe boxes. Once they get some size on them I stick them in a different 10 gallon to grow out even more. I think the main trick is I feed them heavily and also feed baby brine shrimp everyday
Let's see... In a ten gallon tank I've bred/grown these things: a prolific amount of standard crypts, a never ending supply of java fern, guppies of every conceivable color , mollies of most types, various swordtails, and omgsnails.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics i have a few in my aquarium, just love hearing the clicking noises they make at each other X3 i have the tank set up near my computer, a 10gal, with 4 gouramis, a crowntail betta (he's very mild mannered, doesn't bother them, the gouramis don't bother him), and 3 green corys. everyone gets on just fine. so much fun hearing the clicking even though it's a good foot away from my computer desk with headphones on. it really threw me off the first time i heard it, i knew they could, but i didn't expect it to be that loud. totally love them!

I have a mr.aqua long, 12 gallon tank. Would this work for multis? Planned on starting with just four and letting them breed from there. Tanks is 3 feet long so better surface area than most small tanks
ProStrat: go to a good fish shop, but some quality bangers, breed em up proper-like. Now, go to your even local'er fish shop like that trash petsmart up da road, and sell them those hard hitters you bred.
I need to learn the process of actually selling the fish. I started a 29 gallon with 10 guppies after I had experience with my bettas and tetras. 8 of the 10 died one after the other for some reason and the last 2 took repopulating seriously. First birth was 4, second birth was 14, third birth was 10 (but only 3 have survived). I have so many now 😂😂😂

Breeding Endlers livebearers in a 10 gallon but they stock up quickly so I prefer using a 20.

sparkling or pygmy gouramis could be a good choice maybe? i just know they're small, don't really need a lot of space.
They can be - better to have just a pair. For as small as they are they can sure chase each other around. Haha

ProStrat: go to a good fish shop, but some quality bangers, breed em up proper-like. Now, go to your even local'er fish shop like that trash petsmart up da road, and sell them those hard hitters you bred.
Petsmart and Petco do not buy fish from local breeders.

I need to learn the process of actually selling the fish. I started a 29 gallon with 10 guppies after I had experience with my bettas and tetras. 8 of the 10 died one after the other for some reason and the last 2 took repopulating seriously. First birth was 4, second birth was 14, third birth was 10 (but only 3 have survived). I have so many now 😂😂😂
With guppies it's about keeping everyone well-fed. :-)
@@PrimeTimeAquatics definitely! Mine never seem to be satisfied even if they are fed twice a day! They even nible at their tank mates bug bites wafers lol
