I have an HS PHEV Exclusive, filled up 2 months ago(25th Feb), most of my journeys are short and done in EV mode. I've done over 800miles since filling up, still have over half a tank of fuel and am averaging over 200mpg since filling up(25th Feb). So, yes, 155.8mpg claimed is very easy to achieve if you manage the EV/AUTO mode properly and keep the battery charged. Most people that buy PHEV's expect that 155.8mpg without the thought of managing the system to get full use of the hybrid system. It's a great car, in my honest opinion, and amazing value for money compared to it's rivals.
Hi Michael thanks for the comment. 🤗 it’s really great to hear from real world owners so thanks for sharing. That’s amazing you have got that many miles from the car. It just goes to show what you can achieve from the car. It’s an incredible car at an amazing price. I think the more people that give this a test drive opportunity and see what it’s about, they will be pleasantly surprised. How long have you had the car? Thanks for chatting with us 👍🏽
@@CarChatTV I've had the car a little over 6mnts now and have done just over 4000miles. The best I've achieved on a tank of petrol, so far, is 957miles. As mentioned, I'm already on over 800 with 5/8 tank of fuel left. This will mean, I should easily surpass the 1000mile mark and beyond on a singe tank. Even on longer journeys, I plan the trip so I get full use of the 32mile electric range to maximise fuel economy. I had a 19 plate Range Rover Evoque P250 1st Edition prior to this and that was not only horribly expensive to run, it was also horrible to drive due to it's incompetent gearbox. Since having the MG, I've saved hundreds of pounds in fuel, insurance and road tax. This truly is an amazing car with loads of tech and ample power, when required.
Have had mine a year now and I am still very impressed (I was a real petrol head but needed something for the grandchildren) - Do most of my journeys on EV and that makes a huge difference at todays petrol prices, charges over night on low cost elecy - a real no brainer plenty of car at low cost.
Hey Brian, thanks for the comment 🤗 that’s interesting to hear from a real petrol head too that has switched to this. It’s an amazing option like you say and no brainier because of the cost. Interior is fab too. Thanks for taking the time to chat with us 👍🏽
Thanks for a positive review - this is refreshing (many reviews berate it for the slight lag of infotainment response, and a wallow feel when tearing when country lanes but, actually, that's not what it's about. It's a good EV for trips < 32miles with great space, high driving position, superb comfort, every bell and whistle for a very modest price. Superbly comfortable and a ride that soaks up most potholes, bumps and otherwise road nasties so common on British roads It's good to see you take into account the demographic appeal and price, v the spec and nod to EV mode. I've had my (ex demonstrator at discounted price) Exclusive model for a couple of months now and love it. Yes, it vibrates slightly under the throttle when using ICE, has an extraordinary hesitation at around 40mph in EV mode but hey, counter that with the 0-60 in 6.9s if needed (in hybrid mode), all the toys, the space, full leather (mostly red in my case) full sky roof, 7-year guarantee, and it would seem to appeal to mr/ms average wishing to drive an SUV for shorter journeys on EV mode in luxurious comfort, but with an outstanding ICE in reserve for longer trips. It won't appeal to car badge-conscious buyers who could may spend (waste) +£10k more Incidentally, a tip to other would-be or newbie owners: EV mode can only be entered when the AC is not calling for heat (it's ok with the demand for cooling). To save reducing the temperature settings periodically, to maintain EV mode, simply long press the climate control shortcut button to switch the climate mode on/off. Switching off ensures that EV mode is held (mostly).
Hey Dave, thank you so much for leaving such a great reply🤗. Lots of great information you speak about and I agree with all of your points. We always try to give a valid and honest opinion/review with any car we are fortunate enough to review. This MG was superb for its price point, I was so impressed with the interior. And like you said the type of people buying this car won’t care about the minor things that my self or other reviewers picked up. For anyone that doesn’t care about badges, they would save a lot of money going for a car like this, and with the warranty too it’s great. And thanks for leaving that tip for other owners, I wish everyone did that. That way when people watch the videos they can see real life owners leave their comments. I just wanted to say thank you so much again for taking the time to write that great comment. Thank you for chatting with us 👍🏽
Thanks for the comment 🤗 that’s great news. What colour did you go for? Let us know how you get on with it. We really loved the interior so comfy. Thanks for chatting 👍🏽
Good review, agree with what you are saying. Had ours since September and love it. The only downside for me is the vibration through the right foot when the petrol kicks in at low speed.
Hey Tim, Awsome, thanks for the comment. 🤗 It’s a great car with loads of great standard equipment which I love. As when speccing a car, costs can add up. Was really impressed with the interior. What colour did you go for? Thanks for chatting 👍🏽
I think (although I've never driven a PHEV) there are most likely ways to get better fuel economy. Such as, warm it up under engine first for a mile or so then switch off the AC and turn on EV only mode. Use the heated seats if necessary but usually if you run AC it requires the engine to drive the compressor. In EV only mode it becomes very economical for most of your local trips. Similarly on longer trips, after the first couple of miles, revert to EV only until the battery is depleted; it will then behave like any other hybrid car until you complete the journey, thus minimizing the fuel used. Seems that most reviewers drive it totally under hybrid and then suggest that fuel economy is a lot worse than advertised. Perhaps I'm wrong but it's my impression from reading multiple reviews.
The fuel economy will never be the same as the book promises because the trip computer takes total miles driven divided by petrol used. Not petrol and electric. The best measure would be miles per pound spent but you woul need to factor in the cost of charging which would be a bit of a guess. Even then this would be influenced by any free charging that you do. Of course you could get 155.8 mpg but it would mean doing two thirds of your miles in EV mode only and exclude the cost of electric. Bottom line the performance figures given are for comparison with other cars and not what you would expect to get. I have found very few reviews that actually deal with what you're likely to get. Maybe someone out there can help.
I have owned a PHEV (BMW 2 Series Active Tourer) and found it VERY economical. I am retired therefore no commuting needed. I was doing mainly local trips and charging whenever it was parked at home, so provided I used the EV mode (approx. 22 miles) for my trips I used no petrol. I could pre-condition the car (heat or cool) whilst it was plugged in, which helped the economy. Ideally I would have preferred maybe 35 to 45 miles in EV mode but not many PHEVs can manage that. I suppose they have to maintain a balance between batteries and engine !
Great review buddy, I've had a HS to test also, great car for the price point, agree its a good cruiser. I found some issues especially with the electric operated boot, it didn't work every time you tried it, would be maybe once or twice out of 3 attempts.
Thank you again 🤗 yes it seems a decent price. I think Adam also struggled with the electric tailgate a few times now you mention it. I think the interior was the biggest thing that impressed us.
Volmer Hindsberg Denmark I have had my MG EHS Plug in hybrid for a little over 1 year and I am getting more and more happy with it, it is a fantastically comfortable car to drive in, both short and long and then it looks like a Mercedes inside. I have nothing to complain about, it is completely noise-free except for a little road noise, the 10 gears work together completely smoothly and without you noticing or hearing anything, an absolutely fantastic car. I have a question. Why do English cars have a yellow number plate on the back and a white number plate on the front ?? in Denmark and many other countries, the number plates have the same color on the front and back.
?nobody knows and nobody cares? It is only about the last 15 years. From a 'google' search the DVLA says " so that people can tell the front from the rear". That's no joke, probably a retiring civil servant wanted to leave his mark on the world or maybe he owned a number-plate company.
Nice review, I like your friendly style. With a bit of manual intervention you can get the claimed figures at least until the battery runs completely out. When in traffic use the EV mode. When you get on to the highway turn it to Hybrid mode. Think you'll find the petrol consumption pretty impressive. Of course if you're just doing a normal daily commute leave it in EV mode, you should hardly ever need to use petrol. If you do a long-ish trip and come back home with any battery left you're just wasting money. Electricity is about 1/10 the price of equivalent petrol.
I think its a great looking car....I occasionally noticed one on the road and that's why I went to look at one. Would love to know how it performs on wet grass/soggy fields as unable to select gear and more torque with EV.
Hey thanks for the comment🤗 that’s a great question. I wasn’t too sure how to feel about not being able to change gears with paddles. Thanks for chatting. Are you thinking of getting one?
Hey thanks for the comment🤗 overall we were really impressed with the car. At some points the gears could hang on for a little too long so you get some high revs. But I think anyone could get used to this car as it’s a great bargain buy 👌🏽 thanks for chatting.

Hello. I have seen your test of MG ehs Plugin once again. I agree that you say the steering is stiff, I found it to be a very nice and nice steering with very little resistance and it is nicely self-righting. You also complain that it is heavy in curves, I don't notice that, it can drive quite fast through a curve, I have seen on youtube a double evasive maneuver which it managed very well, it banked very little and skidded very little out at 70 km/h. You also say that it is a bit noisy, in normal driving the engine is completely noiseless and you can't feel what gear it is in because everything goes smoothly, of course it says a little if you step on the accelerator, but all cars do that, i have heard expensive Mercedes cars that make significantly more noise than my MG does when accelerating hard. I would go so far as to say that all its rivals and even those that are significantly more expensive do not reach the MG on the door handles, I will not trade mine for any of the other SUV cars.
Hey VH, thanks so much for your comment. Sorry it hasn’t taken a while to reply to you. We loved the car and think it’s such a great bargain buy. You can charge using a home outlet on 3kw. It will just take much longer. If you have a wall box will take just over 2 hours on 7kw. Great question thanks for chatting 🤗
