My thought too. Tearout comes from the bigger chunks being torn off instead of cut, his speed slow feed and 2 steps should probably work out nice. I like that it takes what looks like stock teeth.
to me it looks like you need to take the corners off so when you push it through it don't hit the corn and brake off .I think if you make it look like more like a pencil it will work better
Actually, America adopted the metric system in 1893 and in 1975 introduced the Metric Conversion Act to get Americans to actually use it. Guess they are just very, very slow to change/learn over there.
@@j3ngel This is very true. The traffic signs all had km next to miles and cars were made with both metric and ASE (confusing the mechanics) and the speedometer (still) have both on the dial. But people in US just didn't want to convert (too confusing, lazy?) and now, no one is pushing to change.
Wes, the problem that you have is the blade in these dowel maker's are basically crap, they are pretty blunt from the word go 🫣. The temu is a total pain in my arse, the amount of adverts the we get on a daily basis is just nothing more than infuriating!!!. As alway's buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
To be honest Wes neither did I, which is why I didn't buy one. Instead I have the flat steel plate with different size holes etc I find this way better 🤔
@@simonr6793 Hi! can you send a link to the plate you have or do you think all plates are good enough compared to this? And the plate requires to hit the wood with a hammer right or do you use a drill?
'Try going down a size after first cut, think tear out is from cutting too much at once?

maybe try reversing the spin .....rt hand spin.? like the direction of a drill.
HE’S BACK!!!! Good to see you
I’m back! I have another video in the making. More to come!

it;s a dowell. Why are you worried about tear-out?
If you wanted to use it in fine woodworking.
Depends on what you’re using the dowel for
You tube on expensive original device sanded end into point on belt sander added round end for drill rest is shaped in device
Did you mean to say, "device in shaped is rest drill for end round added sander belt on point into end sanded device original expensive on tube you?"
Wacck a socket on the end drive with a nut driver no need for a screw
Great idea! Next time
Why do you care about tear out on a dowel?? Seems like it worked well.
Well… if need them for rungs on chair you would want them nice.
How close to .75 inches did you end up with?
Not sure. I never checked
maybe go down a size now with the dowel.
😂😂😂😂😂😂you’re funny bro
The tear out is due to you not knowing how to do it 😂😂😂😂😂if you want a 1/2” dowel you’d want the blank to be 9/16” square lol
Are you supposed to back up? That is chewing it up.
No. I did that on the first one. The next three I didn’t do that. Pushing it through slow is how to avoid tear out.
@@WesHamstra 6:24 you are pulling it back
7:07 you are pulling it back
Yeah. I watched it back. You are right. I however don’t think that is the issue.
Why would you expect it not to be metric. uSofA is the only non metric country in the world

First off ur taking off too much material at once makes it tear out
Half the worlds wood workers were sucked in by this. Me included. It doesn't work.
Home made ones are heaps better

I wonder if there are any higher quality blades that are compatible with this jig. I didn’t have high expectations for this.

I will have to try that
