- Jamaicans are bracing for a deadly hurricane as it heads towards the island on Wednesday.
Hurricane Beryl is expected to bring "life-threatening winds and storm surge" to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) warns.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness urged people to "take this hurricane seriously".
Jamaican authorities have imposed a curfew from 06:00 to 18:00 local time (12:00-00:00 BST).
At least seven people were killed as the storm swept through the Caribbean.

If we can build wind proof jackets why can't we build like inflatable storm sheets to move the wind upwards and redirect the force upwards and disperse it as well as build windfarms in Jamaica? The problem I have is now everyone is going to reply to this comment on why western engineering will be needed...I am not disputing that but there is a general mistrust now and as with everything you will need to earn the trust back.

Don't know what all the fuss is about, it's hurricane season them lot are used to it , they're getting ready to face whatever comes there way, hurricanes , floods , wild fires , earthquakes , volcanoes etc, always cause death. You can never win against Mother Nature she's a single woman, and without her we wouldn't be here today , God bless her.. 👍💯
They don't usually see strong hurricanes. The most recent direct hit and most damaging was Gilbert in 1988 .
