Swift is an artistic powerhouse on the level of Homer or Shakespeare or Hank Senior-- someone whose personal talent and efforts define an era of human existence. We all live in Swiftworld now and are lucky to be here.

I *adore* her telling he whole world to piss off about her romantic choices. We don't get to pick a man for her, whether it's Healy or whoever else she burns for, and parasocial relationships don't give anybody a claim to rule her life.

I'd love to talk to you about just how Swift enacts the essential function of art, theater, and religion when she tells a story and we listen, and share the human emotions she makes glorious (even when they're agonizing) I'm a retired philosophy professor who gave her first presentation on the nature of musical genre to a country music conference in Meridian decades ago (Dolly Parton sang that night)

I agree: Down Bad 1st album, Black Dog 2bd! And yes this album is a mature, raw version of everything she’s done. Taylor 2.0

Totally agree with your experience, that the songs cannot be quite pinned down. It took me until today to actually listen to the full album, and I am still going back and forth like you guys. It is such a beautiful world to live in, though, isn't it?

I agree with everything you said, and in songs like How Did It End?, she’s saying that fans dissecting her work to figure out the “who’s who?” and “who’s that?” has gotten out of control. I don’t think she wants to get away from extremely personal writing, it’s all over the album, but I think it’s clear that the incessant, public dissection of her work for names and places has pushed her to a point that’s no longer artistically or personally good for her. It’s complicated, because it’s evident she’s also fully aware that she’s had a big hand in that. But, it was very clear to me that she’s hit her limit with that kind of behavior.
As fans, I wish we could know that, yes, Taylor’s work is personal and, often, autobiographical, but what purpose does putting specific faces to it do? At that point, it’s no longer her art we’re enjoying. At that point, it’s turning her personal life into mass entertainment.
Also, as her art has evolved, there are more and more songs that don’t cleanly link one song to one event/person. She’s sometimes blending fact and fiction. She’s also doing more composite sketches- where several people and events are blended into one song.

My favorite song is The Alchemy. I’m a Travis Kelce fan and started getting into Taylor Swift when they started dating. Since I’m older, her songs hit me differently. The Alchemy, on the other hand, is a different story. This song literally brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Even though it’s a slow song it is her happiness song. Taylor is telling the world that right now she is living her best life and is incredibly happy. She is at the very top of her career with a man that puts her first and doing everything he can to lift her even higher because Taylor is Travis’s HEROINE! This time with an E!

3:58 y’all are so right about the time it’s taking to really ingest this album. It’s a different experience for me hearing it in the car, in my bed at night time, walking my dogs in the woods, in my headphones, through my Bluetooth speakers, driving down the road, watching her lyric videos instead of listening to the album once through made me like some of the songs I was more on the fence about. Each song is sso heavy, well written, and musically intricate that it’s hard to bop through the tracks quickly. These songs are meant to be consumed and absorbed into our bodies. Not listened to and forgotten about. TPD is easily her best masterpiece yet.

You mentioned the lyric video for Who's Afraid..., but I think you didn't notice that the dynamics of word presentation seemingly contains a hidden parallel message. Read the large/bold words independent of the smaller text, and you'll see her repeatedly answering the question. "Whose afraid...Me." This also happens in the very last frame, where the only word left on the screen is "Me?" Since she left the question mark in the final word, I suspect she is questioning. Should she be afraid of herself? (Or, perhaps, afraid of the public persona that has evolved?)

But Daddy I Love Him is a car song. I'm gonna bump that so loud. Also, I wasn't even involved in those Swifty shenanigans but let me apologize anyway to stay on the right side of heaven.
I like So High School....its hilarious and telegraphed for us #Chiefties new to all the Easter egging. I appreciate that.
A month from now, I'm still gonna be trying to process this album.

At first listen i found the whole album me, it had to grow on me. As a man who handles emotions differently then Taylor i have difficulty relating to a lot of the songs on this album my favorites are I can do it with a broken heart and the Black Dog.
What do you guys make of the last songs of both albums? Someone in the stream i was looking at when the album dropped asked if she was retiring upon hearing Clara Bow when she placed herself in the line of former IT girls. Then on the second album the manuscript kind of does the same and i can't get that idea out of my head.

Fav: But daddy I love him.
Sleeper song: Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus. So beautiful.
Most shocking song: Who’s afraid of little ole me. That gallows verse is chilling.
Least quality song: So High School. Too cliche.
Most shocking confessions: being a functioning alcoholic for a time and Shower sex with Joe and that’s she was mostly faking how happy she was on the Eras Tour.
    Best Vibe Song: Down Bad.
Take away: great lyrics as always. Lots of great melodies but needed a better balance of more upbeat would’ve could’ve should’ve type songs. I’m even more fascinated at what her next album will sound like and be about now that she’s closed the chapter on all this heartbreak.
My Dream for Taylor’s next album Album: her attempt to create the next Graceland by Paul Simon. An international album that looks outward at the state of the world and not inward collaborating with artist and sounds from different countries that focuses on the topic of love but not interpersonal relationships love but love amongst nations and cultures to make the planet 🌏 a better place. Topics like war and peace , climate change, poverty, technology. Can you imagine Taylor and Queen Omega on the same song? ❤❤❤❤❤

My impression has been that Taylor has been writing problematic songs about Joe on every album since Reputation. She’s processed the hell out of him for years. TTPD seems to me the delayed death of every last fantasy she had about Joe mixed with fantasy/real Mattie. To me, the Mattie disappointment is that much harder because it is on top of the cold, suffocation of Joe and the lack of kind understanding and support from some fans. I like to listen to her songs and remember they are in the past not in the present. In the present she’s a much happier lady. ❤

You guys, don't make it so complicated...this was a complete cleaning (dump) of anything related to Alwyn and Healy. Taylor is moving on now, with Travis, and there is nothing and no more guessing who the next songs are going to be about. Clean slate!

    The Idol
Don’t let her take your children
She’s a sheep in wolves clothing
Idols come from all different places
    Is she yours?
    Is she yours?
    Calm down
    Reflect
    Is she yours?
    Is she yours?
    Calm down
    Reflect
    Do not idolize
    Calm down
    Reflect
    Do not idolize
    Pray pray pray
She changes her ways ways ways
    For the good of her
    For the good of you
    But I want to idolize
I want to see it her way
I will take what she gives
She is wise and you aren’t
She is a poet and you’re not
I will follow where she leads
    Instead of my pedigree
    She is the World
    I want to live in
    She’s the idol I wanted
    She’s the idol I needed
    So she leads me astray
    But I'm ok with that
    My modern-day poet
    My modern-day poet
    So, you can say pray
    Pray pray pray
    All you want want want
So, you can say pray Pray pray pray
    All you want want want
I still want to hear My modern-day poet
    Someday you’ll see
    Your modern-day poet
    Fall
    Fail
    Fade
She will be replaced by someone new
Someone who shines brighter for you
Your lack of spirit will make it so
You look for wisdom in All the wrong places
    So you will
    Fall
    Fail
    Fade
Waiting for the one who has been here the whole time
    The Alpha
    The Omega
    The Holy One!

GUILTY AS SIN....my favorite. Time to get out of the kiddy box and switch to adult song writing....none of this teenage stuff anymore, another reason for the "housecleaning". All those who complained about they can't play TTPD 😮songs to their 5-year olds anymore...get use to it, Taylor has moved on, this isn't Kindergarten time anymore.
