When I rig live bait to my hooks, I avoid hooking the body as much as possible. I usually use, depending how big the live bait, 30lb-50lb braided line tied up around the tail and inside gill plate to mouth. Then I tie a double hook leader to the gill plate (hook hangs below the mouth) and second hook to the tail. So it becomes a live bait lure lol. Another handy tip, buy a cheap Chinese GoPro (action camera) with a waterproof case and attach it to a slide with lead and send it down the line with your whipping pole mainline attached to camera so you can reel it back up with footage of your bait (or lack of bait) and you can see the area your lead landed. If you don’t like the spot, break off and cast again. If at night, you can put a glo stick to the camera to check bait.
That double hook is a sick idea!! Sounds like a lot of work haha. You might have to show me and person. And with the GoPro thing, I actually seen someone on Big Island have a video like that awhile ago!!! Same thing you're talking about!
Fish and Dive Hawaii it is lol... I usually use small tilapia caught at chocolate beach (West loch) from brackish water. Tilapia are so hardy that they live out of water for a long time and very easy to keep alive in a bucket. Tying a hook to the tail is easy, just tie around the tail and run the hook under the line tied to the fish. As for the gill plate, I have a big sewing needle that I use to run the line through the gills to the mouth and I either run the line directly to the eye of the hook and knot it together or if it’s big bait, I use a third line to tie the hook to line inside the gill plate. Kinda like how you use the zip tie but with braided line. I like using braid for this since you don’t need to pull so hard to clinch the knot. It works really well, I suggest you try it, bait stays alive much longer and better chance of a solid hook up.
Great video, I would recommend okuma reels, they are not very expensive and a great product, I use mine for tuna and yellowtail fishing. If you get a chance I would recommend looking at them or trying them out. Keep up the good content🤙🤙

I use number 12 malin wire for hook and number 12 wire for rub line and make it around 7ft long connected to a number 4 barrel swivel to my main reel line for bait casting and usually use a number 26 BKN maruto hook and skinned tako leg all white meat around 3 inches long i don't fish during the day I only fish at night more action at night

What lbs test line do you use on your reels?
Depending on the reel I use anywhere from 15 lbs for my lighter tackle, and up to 40 lb for my bigger reels. Monofilament of course. You can go a lot higher with braid but I prefer mono

Fish and Dive Hawaii I’m sure you could challenge it. Once RUclips looks at it, they will remove the strike. Choke people use the copyright as a tool to remove vids not knowing it’s illegal and opens them up to a counter law suit.
