  • Aloha Everyone! Welcome to the second braddahs fishing tips, tricks, and tutorials. Today we add to our earlier tutorial on how to fish in Hawaii, and teach your the third of the common 3 fishing rigs here in Hawaii, the dunking rig. This is a very popular fishing rig to use in Hawaii, and is a quite efficient way to fish here. Dunking is in essence a way to do some saltwater fishing, keeping your bait stationary in the water and allow the bait to sit around and wait for a fish to come up an nail it. We all use the dunking rig quite a lot, and hope this tips and tricks helps you to be able to use it yourself.
    A the end of the video we also release the results for our recent reel giveaway! So be sure to stay tuned if you entered.

    I know I'm late but that's the awesome thing...anytime even 3 years after a post people can watchb and learn. I just moved back home to Kauai after leaving for 17 years when I graduated high school. Annnnyways long story shorter lol I been watching your videos and aside from being entertaining, I've learned a lot. I just starting fishing few months ago since I've been back cause well...nothing else to do on this island with this covid crap so the rigs, and the techniques, and just watching how you guys do it....for reals been a huge help. Plenty people fishing over here these days and I feel more confident pulling up and not being shame for not knowing a damn thing. So huge mahalos. Also, I saw in one of your guys videos when yall went with a group on a forever hike to a fishing spot and found a centipede etc....anyway noticed when you guys got back to the cars someone had a kamehameha school sticker. Wondering what class and what campus if that was you guys. I'm '03 Kapalama so lived in the dorms cause from Kauai. Long story long already yea but just wanted to send some good vides and love your way and just wanted to say thank you for the tips and everything.

    Great job guys! Let me tell you why you're getting positive feedback....You're vids are watchable, fun and informative. King K, you are easy to listen to, and Danny D, you remind me of my younger brah, who was a great fishermen! So many fishing vids have too much, or to little talking, have poor cinematography, loads of bad language.....I could go on! keep up the good work. Kenny P, San Diego

    Have you guys tried using octopus bait by cutting it into chunk cubes? I've used shrimp and squid on dunking but I never caught anything good because they break easily from triggerfish. I started fishing by using shrimp and squid for 3 months and couldn't catch anything. When I used octopus bait on my first cast, I finally caught an emperor fish. Then later another snapper fish all the way up to big bluefin trevally in just a week! Now I have been catching 2-4 pound bluefin trevally. Octopus bait last around 10 minutes compared to squid in a few seconds.

    • @ShakaFishing
      @ShakaFishing  7 лет назад +1

      We are thinking of keeping the next one we catch for bait down the line! You catch your own? Do they save well being frozen?

    • @myshowvids
      @myshowvids 7 лет назад +5

      I don't catch because it takes time. I usually buy whole fresh octopus at a local fish market. They sell around $5 - $6 per pound. I cut the octopus leg into cubes and hook them on a 2/0 or 4/0 circle hook. Octopus meat is like a rubber band. It helps me to avoid triggerfish and hook mostly big fish like bluefin trevally and others. A lot of small fish will bite the bait and later the big fish will curiously come around to inspect the whole group of fish and the bait. Soon, it will swallow the whole bait and the fight is on. Fresh octopus can last in the freezer for 2 months. When I first used octopus, I never went back to squid or shrimp. It is perfect for bottom fishing.

    Good job boys! Moved here a couple years ago and just getting into shore casting. At my age though I can't get down to the nice spots like I used to since I have some balancing issues. Love to fish and just enjoy getting out. My only critique might be to tone down the volume and repetitive music. Mahalo!
