just to update, i couldnt fix the problem in the end and went back to the shop to find out the problem. apparently it worked when charged with a joycon charger and now my joycon works as usual. weird but hey it worked 😂
i’ve had this issue for 3 weeks now and was so close to buying new joy cons because no other sources i looked at have helped, this fixed it so fast!! thank you!!
My right joy-con was having the same problem. You just saved me some money, dawg. I also suffer from fairly severe allergies as well, so I feel your pain.
@@jeffprofessional123 mine is having a problem where it is doing absolutely nothing and it would not charge at all. My left joycon is completely fine but my right has this issue
I've had the switch for almost 2 years, for some reason today my minus joycon doesn't connect at all whatever I try it doesn't want to turn on, believe me I tried everything.
Thank god I found this video. My left joy-con wouldn't charge and I scared that I would have to get it fixed, and I got it only 3 months and a week ago. Thank you for fixing my problem good sir.
You saved my life. I have a Nintendo Switch that a guy lend us for a stand in a convention. I used the console to play in my house and the left Joy-Con wasn't charging even if it was connected to the console. I did this and now it's fixed :'D. I don't have to pay 300€ xd. Thanks a lot! And sorry if my English is not the best! But even searching in Spanish I couldn't find a solution
Worked for me! Right joycon was unresponsive, just as you described. I was getting ready to buy a new battery to install, then took a minute to check Google. Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for this video! I've already had to send a joycon twice to Nintendo because of analog issues. Today it had warned me about the left joycon having low battery. When I got home I docked it in the assumption that'll charge. When attempting to use the switch it once again gave me the battery warning. Went to check the controllers to see if it's charging and the right one was but not the left. Google the issue and came across this video. After following your instruction boom it starting charging!
@@jeffprofessional123 So the solution is to reconnect it? For me it's either a battery indicator issue or a charging issue because i did this like a thousand times and it still wont charge.
That can mean a couple of things. First thing I would check on is if the Joy Con are charged. If you have not used these controllers in a while, you would want to keep trying to hit the sync button with your console on. Sometimes you can get them to work by repeatedly trying, but if the battery is low, you would need to connect the Joy Con to the system after it syncs (while its docked) ASAP. If it is unresponsive after several tries (and you have done all of the other steps besides hitting the sync button) then your Joy Con have probably run out of battery. This means that unfortunately they wont sync which means they won't charge. In this case you would need to contact Nintendo to have them charge them.
Oh my god dude thank you so much.I bought my switch in the US because in Brazil they are around 900 dolars so I got really sad when this happened.Your vídeo helped fix it thanks :D and sometimes this can be caused due to dust also
Wow simple fix and it worked. I wouldn't of thought of this because I thought it automatically connects the joy con when connecting to the switch. Thanks a lot
hey man, thank you so much. I got these joycons from nintendo after i sent them in for a drift issue. When one went on the fritz again, I just figured it was busted and i should replace the battery or something. im so used to opening up old controllers to repair them, i was just going to grab my screwdriver and get into it. i completely overlooked doing this. Such a simple fix.
The reason I made this video was because I went through all the loops and hoops before calling Nintendo (I'm not sure I'm technically savvy enough to actually open them). They said 'hey have you tried this' and here we are lol!
Check your contacts. There are 10 tiny strips of metal at the bottom of your Joy Cons that connect to the system and another 10 on the base of where you slide them onto the switch. I believe those may be dirty or broken. Clean the Joy Cons with a microfiber cloth and the Switch sides with a Q-tip CAREFULLY. They are pretty frail. If they are broken Nintendo can fix them or you would need to buy another set of Joy Cons or another switch depending.

Thank you, sir. My son’s Joycon just disconnected for no reason. I thought the battery was dead, because it wouldn’t connect to mine either. But this solved it.
Hey. I am having a MAJOR problem and I was wondering if you could help me figure this out. So, when I have both of my joycons connected to the console, and then I take them out and hit a button...only the red (right) joycon is turning on. The blue (left) joycon only has the green light that goes back and forth. The only way for the blue one to work is when it's actually connected to the console. I've had this issue for a while now, and nowhere online has been able to give me and answers. Please help me! I'd be forever greatful!!! 😭

My primary suggestion would probably be to contact Nintendo and see if they have any fix action. I'm going to spend some time tonight looking for that answer, but in the meantime checking with Nintendo may be your best bet.
Ok go to your controllers screen and try to sync your controller again. Basically the only things I could find were saying try the change grip/order screen until it synchronizes. Let me know if it works.
Thanks! I just undocked my switch and the left joycon was doing all the things you said it was, it wasn't charging, wasn't connecting to my console, then I pressed the sync button like you said, and it worked!! Thanks!
Thankyou so much I got a switch and I was so upset that my joycon wasn't working. I thought it was broken. I was about to replace it but thanks to you my problems are gone. Thankyou so so much :)
I was having docking/connecting problems with my right joycon, would work when unattached but shut off completely when docked to the controller holder or the console and wouldn't show in the controller menu as being attached to the console. The problem was bent pins in the bottom of the ramp, when I straightened them out and slid it into the console it automatically showed up on the screen and paired
I talk about that very same issue in the second video in my Joy Con issues series. You strike me as a tech savvy person (I am not) because I literally had to contact Nintendo when my contacts got blocked to figure out how to clean them.
Ya I'm not super tech savvy either I was just checking around I knew it was the controller itself that was the problem cause it happened when it slid into the joycon controller holder as well so I looked at the bottom at a certain angle and saw the connector pins and the 2nd and 3rd ones were bent. I took a small thin flathead bit and just bent them back into shape, I'm sure if others had this issue the damage to the pins could be more severe than mine was and straightening them might not work
Thanks man I struggled for months trying to charge my right joy con! All I had to do was re sync it so it can read properly an charge! Thanks bro your video helped! Big up from London!
Try checking your contacts at the bottom of your Joy Con as well as the little lip on the sides of your switch. Make sure they are not dirty. If they are toothpicks and q-tips will be your best friend.

Omg another video about this! This is in the switch itself. The switch tells you how to do this if you go into the controller menu. Which you can do with the touch screen. My issue is that those green lights don't come on.
You are absolutely correct that the switch will let you know how to do this. Most people tend to RUclips it before they go rummaging through their menu screen hence the video. If your green lights aren't coming on then it is more than likely an issue with the Joy-Cons being out of battery. The most common way I have seen or heard of to fix this is to get a charging grip. If you don't want to get a charging grip, you can set up all of the other steps in this video then hit the black button repeatedly until you get a response from those green lights. Then quickly and safely connect your joycon to the switch and hope for the best. That secondary method is the one I use when this happens and it is cheaper than buying the charging grip. Best of luck to you!
@@jeffprofessional123 Thanks a lot man. I've never tried the latter technique. Weirdly enough I stashed my switch for a long time cuz I can't play it... Then it mysteriously charged the joycon. So I thought I was in the clear. Then by morning it had done the same thing again.

I bought my switch with the left joycon not turning on( sync button did nothing) and what I did to make it work is everytime I turn on the switch I smack the joycon hard against my hand and press the sync button, works everytime for me
@@tankthehedgehog105 that means you would need to get a charging grip or you would need to contact Nintendo to have them charge it again. I am unaware of any way to get it charged otherwise when the battery completely dies.

I don’t understand. At 1:08 you said that the flashing light would not come on, as is the problem with my controller. Yet later on in the video you explained that solving the problem required pressing the button then attaching to the console
There is a difference in how the lights come on. At the beginning of the video, I was talking about the indicator light for what player you are. When the lights are flashing top to bottom in sequence, that is how you know the system is trying to sync. Yeah that could have been more clear.
I was about to rage on Nintendo until watching this lol thx your a life saver bro I thought my controller died and I haven't even had this thing that long
Jeff The Christian Gamer well my switch right controller won’t turn on no matter what I do (I’ve done loads) it won’t flash green or even turn on at all
Speaking of charge, how do you tell when your joycons are completely charged? In my experience the bars on charge gauges don’t necessarily mean what you think, a percentage would be better
In my research, I have not found any way to display the percentage for the Joy Con. I believe it will display when you go to the controller screen under options, but I don't know of a way to get it to show otherwise.

@@bellerocks8227 yea mine just turned off yesterday morning and I couldn't charge it or re sync it
I bought my switch with the left joycon not turning on( sync button did nothing) and what I did to make it work is everytime I turn on the switch I smack the joycon hard against my hand and press the sync button, works everytime for me
Worked perfect and fast 6 years later, thanks!
Jeff you need more subscribers this really helped me if i didnt see this video my mom would kill me
I certainly appreciate the sentiment. Let your friends know about me :) I do a bunch of different stuff.

You are most welcome!
@@jeffprofessional123 What Does It Mean When The Battery Is Depleted?
@@tankthehedgehog105 that means you would need to get a charging grip or you would need to contact Nintendo to have them charge it again. I am unaware of any way to get it charged otherwise when the battery completely dies.
@@jeffprofessional123 Ok! What Ever I Did It Technically Worked
What I Did: Took The Dead One Out, Placed It Back In, And It Began Charging, And After 2 Hours, It Was Full Of Fuel
Thank you very much!!!!! I was going to initialize my Switch and return it to the store. Lol!!! As many times that I've held the joy-cons, I've never noticed that button!!!! Again, thank you very much for this video.
Yeah its an easy detail to miss. Until I called nintendo I didn't either XD
Thanks

Thanks so much man i appreciate this video, it helped me out a lot. Saved me lots of time and a trip to my local game stop lol, worked like a charm! Thanks man! :D
You are most welcome! (super late reply XD)
Jeff The Christian Gamer oh ok. It’s just that my joycon just won’t respond even if I press the sync button. Thanks anyway
I was about to rage on Nintendo until watching this lol thx your a life saver bro I thought my controller died and I haven't even had this thing that long
Ramon Noodles glad I could help! Lol

Whats goin on XloFire?
Jeff The Christian Gamer well my switch right controller won’t turn on no matter what I do (I’ve done loads) it won’t flash green or even turn on at all
XloFire same happened to me
This guy is a hero
Lol glad I could help.
Amazing. You just solved our problem! Thank you.
You are most welcome!
Thx man, haven’t tried it yet, but hope it works👍🏽
If it doesn't, I have other things you can try. Just let me know.
You are the best it worked
I’m surprised that this is still a problem, thanks for the helpful vid!
Ik right happening with my left joy con and their brand new got them like 4-3 days ago
Simple, and straight to the point. Good video!
Many thanks!
