Interesting to watch this now and see which of these movies endured in the culture. It was Get Out by a mile (though Phantom Thread forever has my heart). Really enjoying going back and watching all your reviews.

The music in the background from 1:50 through 2:10, I've heard that before. Is that from Requiem for a Dream?

In terms of Direction I think Jordan Peele has work to do but as a writer he's one of the best in the business right now

Now that we are near the end, I think Dunkirk was the best film of the year. I also think that Three Billboards was the film that I liked most. Most people don't understand that conflict in my mind. Dunkirk was a unique view at a war film. When viewed on the big screen, it is intense throughout. Even though it violated one of my main rules for loving a film, being emotionally involved in specific characters, I still loved it. Three Billboards was so complex with dealing with the characters, that I am still thinking about it days later. All that being said, I think Ladybird will win. I am also annoyed that Holly Hunter did not get nominated for the Big Sick.

When you realize You've seen every Oscar Nominated Best Picture film this channel has covered so far? And the Shape of Water, you know you had a good year.
Would love to get your opinion on Baby Driver when Oscar vids are all said and done.

It's not that microagressions don't exist, it's that a lot of people seem to be so overtly on edge that it's actively difficult to have interracial conversations sometimes. I saw a girl get yelled out for complementing a black girl on her hair. And it wasn't even her natural hair; it was braided, which clearly takes a lot of time.
From my view, this is just reductive and makes it difficult for people of different backgrounds to find commonality. This is coming from someone who really likes Get Out, btw.

This movie has one of the biggest plotholes I have ever seen in a movie. What the fuck is the point of playing pretend with Chris, when they could just gang up on him and forcefully hypnotize him just like they did with Andre?!?! Oh wait, because then there wouldn't be a story. Best screenplay my ass. I'm sorry but this movie is fundamentally broken.

Raxos The grey my thoughts were that people attending the party can see what Chris is like, and to see if he was worth bidding for. After that, they did gang up on him. Plus, the whole scenario creates different perspectives for the viewer depending on 1st time viewing or 2nd viewing. I find it an extremely clever way to tell a story!

NickelSmash they could still see if he's worth bidding for while Chris is knocked out or restrained to a chair. Again, just like they did with Andre. What exactly makes Chris special? Oh wait, yeah because he's the main character.

Micro aggressions are such First world problems.

'I don't care about unfortunate anomalies' - sums up the issue, when you are privileged that you don't fear being shot in your car when you get pulled over. Micro aggressions don't occur in a vacuum and contribute to systematic oppression of minority groups. It's not an issue of black people versus white people as monolithic communities, but rather complex issues of power relationships that ultimately result in black people (on aggregate) in having less economic and cultural opportunities to white people. Micro aggressions on an individual level seem meaningless, but they contribute to a wider culture of black and other minority subjugation.
