Been doing this on my flights for a while. It is amazing! To get technical, the wifi on the cruise line or airplane adds the devices Mac address to the access list. When you have the travel router in the middle, it uses the Mac address of the router instead of your device you are on. Thank you for sharing this tip!
Hi Dre. I just saw the video and another one of you & Michelle’s Horizon video. Love yall content and that yall seem so down to earth. Thank you for this tip, can you tell me about the Roku? Did you bring it and how did you hook it to the cabin’s tv? We are on Horizon in 2 months.
7:13 Okay Dre. I should have mine in a couple days. Sailing soon ‼️I can't wait to try this hack and to save money. I hope that it doesn't get confiscated. SUBSCRIBED.
Great video! Does the setup have to be done once on the ship or can set the router up at home and then just plug and play once in the cabin? Just trying not to take my laptop onto the ship.
hey @Jaysbackyardcooking in part 2 of this video I show you how to use your phone or tablet to setup the router. ruclips.net/video/hKOgpBk_ugs/видео.htmlsi=Z6DWCMOnG4Z5o__R
So how do you get through bag security with it being a prohibited item? I just bought one for my first cruise in December and don’t want them to take it thanks!
Yes! however you can make the router portable with a sufficient battery bank charger, and you can put the charger and the router in a bag or something if you're with someone that needs to share internet. But if its not multiple people needing it at once then you can always just use it on one of your phones.
2 questions if I may 1- can you set up the travel router at home before getting on the ship? 2- if you're on the ship i'm assuming you have to have the ships internet package to log onto the travel router? And can you use your phone instead of brining a laptop? What wifi plan did you get on Carnival
@@scottscaneh yes you can, yes I bought 1 premium package, and yes you can use a phone or tablet. The how to video for that configuration is in the description
Hey this is awesome I just purchased one after watching your video .can you upload a video or walk me into hooking it up through my phone instead of a laptop please
You just need to open up a web browser, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari, on your phone and then follow all of the steps as outlined in this video. Your phone is basically a small computer and the browser on your phone will operate in the same manner as the browser on your laptop.
Dre GREAT VIDEO... I picked one up the minute I finished your video. Going on Carnival at the end of August. Looking forward to trying this out. Question: You mentioned you can walk around with it as long as you have a power bank. BET! but do you know if you can get the signal through the walls? I have friends staying in the cabin directly next to ours, it would be nice if they could share as well. Thanks in advance! Keep making them vids!
Thanks man. You know what thats something I didnt test but Ill have the opportunity next week headed to Alaska and ill be filming another video to show how to connect without a laptop and ill address your question in that video.
Okay let me get this correct, because I am doing NCL. The router + ships wifi package will allow multiple devices at the same time? which wifi package did you purchase? the least expensive? or was it the one with the premium streaming option? we have 4-5 devices between the three of us the cheapest package is 199.00 pp :(
May be a dumb question but...Does this only work in the room or can it extend all over the ship? Also, do I have to bring a laptop to use this method/hack? thanks
You would have to be within a relatively close distance to that router meaning you would have to take it with you while roaming the ship. Some mobile phones will share wifi connection through hotspot and you wouldn't even need this router.
This is what I heard about carnival - we shall see is it’s true I leave on Sunday 😅 Melissa Cross “Carnival has a firewall to prevent devices like this, I’d be curious to know if it actually works on a carnival ship.
@@DreAndMichelle I mean I'm definitely going to try it, that's just what a frequent cruiser told me today, and my TA said that they've taken further steps to stop it and now cruisers can get in trouble for it as well. Maybe it depends on the ship, the newer one's might not be as easy to do this? We are going on the Mardi Gras.
Am I missing something? why couldn't you just connect to the ship's wifi on your one phone and turn on hot spot on the phone and share that way without a router?
You're right you definitely could do that but this will be more stable and you will not be having to charge your phone all of the time in your room. The stability of the hotspot will depend on how good your phone is also your phone isn't really built to do that all the time it will get very warm and might cause it to degrade over time I'm not talking about over one trip but maybe over the years. I think this is a very good tip I'm going to be buying one for my hotel stays and plugging into ethernet.
