I love how much Alex just doesn’t hold back despite being right in front of MSI reps. This is what the industry needs out of everyone. If something in a “engineering sample” isn’t good, tell them.
Did not go hard at all
You can always give feedback to reps or people in the show floor for any products launched or shown. It's not like they're gonna feel guilty about it. It's part of their jobs. Not many people know about that.
Just like video games you can't just slap a "not representative of final product" as an excuse to criticism. If something is this close to release/this far in the testing phase chances are not many things will change. Companies need to understand that already
@@stevenlang7709 Seriously, starting out with “none of them are trash” is the definition of poisoning the well. These LTT CES videos come off like “sponsored by CES” videos 😂
0 f given. quality from Alex
The balls on Acer to sponsor a video covering MSI laptops😮
Actually, I believe that ltt usually selects the sponsors at random (from the available ones) for the week, then assigns the video topics afterwards. (At least for videos with out direct products from the company). Would love to know how this works more on Wan show.
Right???
@@barry-allan They still let the sponsor know what the video is about before they go ahead with what sponsor for which video.
It's cool because most of the time the sponsor of the video is an opposite side of the topic. That's means you can talk good and bad about concurrency products while paying for an AD who brings only the good specs
Probably because MSI didnt want to sponsor them?
Alex is literally the God of laptops. He's in MSI's presence, judging their brand new models directly in front of the reps... What an absolute Chad.
I'd be even more harsh... I ABHOR and LOATHE clickpads, I'd have ripped MSI a new one over that trash.
@@nikm5628 stfu they are good GODLIKE
@@terribletimes902 Um.... No. Clickpads are the worst trend to happen to laptops since soldered critical components
@@nikm5628 sounds like a nuanced take
he made me sweaty tbh. idk how he flew there with nads that heavy
I’m extremely happy Alex is presenting without any bias. He isn’t afraid to upset any reps or companies. He continues to be completely honest and give us, the LTT viewers a 100% genuine take rather than doing that whole “wow that’s so cool and wow everything about this is amazing” that a lot of other presenters do because they don’t want an “awkward” atmosphere.
So thanks LTT and especially Alex for continuing to present in an engaging and truthful manner. This is especially true because a lot of people *will* take these “first look” impressions seriously as you’re a trusted and reputable source.
Usually once I hear it from LTT (sometimes with the combined knowledge from Nexus) I don’t need anymore information to make my purchase so again, I’m happy there isn’t any fakery and bias here.
Exactly. I know Linus has kept repeating himself over the past decade, but our trust in their high standards and honesty is the backbone of this entire endeavour. Without it they are nothing. Truly, Linus' (and by extension, the team's) dedication to integrity deserves my utmost respect
@@cowboyhank456 Ohhh yaaa, That's one of the reasons i've been here for over 10 years. I trust these guys.
Alex trolling the MSI guys the entire video is just so much fun :D
Great laptops too! Very interesting lineup.
Yeah, just roasted and praised. Great work.
yeah, doing his job is not really trolling tho boys
It's cool to see laptop manufacturers making full sized laptops instead of making tons of performance compromises to make thin laptops.
It's honestly so cool to see how much more relaxed Alex is In front of the camera compared to when he first started presenting videos. Good job!
Sure is. I was afraid he was going to get fired after his first WAN show. Such a timid character back then
Every Alex video has this same generic comment about him.
He is still kinda shy compared to other hosts, he is particularly hyper at CES
@@persechini He's hopped up on transistors
yeah
I would have died if I was alex during the speaker part 💀
Alex: "Can I test the laptops?"
MSI reps: "Yeah, but please be careful-"
Alex: *slaps a ~90$ stylus off of a laptop*
Someone has to test it 😆 If the pen can't take a fall, then it's not good enough.
No, probably not $90. You're thinking of Apple prices. Those things should be inexpensive enough to produce to just include with the devices designed to use them.
if you're going to put the storage for the stylus in that dumb of a place you deserve to have it knocked off
@@CrimFerret Apple's are as well, they just simply don't
I'm incredibly happy that you called out the poor audio performance of that laptop. These companies honestly need to stop making products in a vacuum on paper and start actually comparing it to competitors.
Edit: apparently it says LTT replied, Alex, the host, is the 5th comment down for those looking for it
Especially when you're bragging about 6 speakers. BUT yeah, the HP definitely sounded way better.
The HP just sounded like all bass and nothing else. I bet everything has a fart tint to it like all the crappy BT and USB-C headphones out there today
@@barnett25 Where the HP Dragonfly excels (and all of their laptops with the B&O speaker tuning) is the clarity and soundstage.
He didn't say it's poor, just that the HP laptop was better.
@@CanIHasThisName with the amount of background noise there's no way he could have properly tested the sound quality of either laptop.
But Dynaudio is a legit company. As far as I know they haven't gine the way of JBL or Harmon Kardon yet, but that could have changed.
The Stealth 14 is extra interesting because Razer didn't announce any updates to the Blade 14, so now it's this vs Zephyrus G14 and Alienware x14 🧐
Are you going to compare them all in one review? That would a monstrous undertaking but cool to see.
Gigabyte also has a Aero 14, looked interesting to me
Hoped to see Lenovo announce their competing model in the 14" gaming laptop space.
hope that it will be ore competiotion on that sector. i love the 14" form factor cuz its portable enough for college. unfortunately razer&alienware are not availavle in my country so g4 is my sole choice.
I love my G14. Such a portable powerhouse. 14" is the perfect size for a laptop imo. Still salty nobody is trying to make a high performance 11-inch x86 2-in-1 though. I'm still using my Yoga 710 11" with a crappy Pentium CPU sometimes just because the form factor is incredible. There's the ROG Flow X13 and Z13 but I want the power of a Zephryus in an even smaller package!
Alex is an awesome presenter. Love that guys delivery and demeanor.
Personally I'm a Riley fan
The man could sell me my 10 year old sneakers and I would shake his hand and feel proud of my purchase… this is concerning…
One of the best and his diy vids are hilarious
Well he is a writer so he should be able to do what he tells others to do pretty well haha
i love how SAVAGE he is on some of his comments 'they didnt dell us' 'hp is still better' 'couldnt go anywhere else guys?' i love it. i hope he keeps that with all the videos
Actually love how the booth guys clarified it wasn't pure magnesium, but an alloy and where fully willing to let alex just drop a competetor on the counter and direct compare in booth.
Alex actually got the material wrong on the Zephyrus G14 that I have. He thought it had a plastic lid, but the lid is the same solid magnesium-aluminium alloy that the MSI laptop here has.
Pure magnesium would just melt under load lmao, of course it's an alloy.
@@BudiandLeo Magnesium has a melting point of 650 degrees centigrade. It's not melting under load. It's obviously an alloy because of price and corrosion issues.
@@daveedee3626 That and it's exceedingly rare for any pure element to be used in a structural design.
@@BonJoviBeatlesLedZep I have the 2021 G14 and I can confirm. It is a magnesium-aluminum alloy lid
Alex's videos are genuinely a joy to watch with that brutal honesty in front of MSI reps. This is what brings improvement to the tech industry. I must say though, props to MSI for letting him cover their product line in such a way that's also very in-depth.
I will never that brave in front of a company's rep, like how Alex is
he's an id#ot
reps are easy and fun to banter with and poke fun at, he'd likely never be this way to product development team or engineers :))
That was written extremely poorly but I agree with you
@@johannsmith5697 exactly, reps are paid faces of the company while PD & engineers are responsible for the company xD
Loving the CES coverage! Keep up the good work guys!!!
CES coverage is literally the most useless and BORING content ever on this channel. I wish they;d totally get rid of it. This show is beyond unnecessary. yawn.
@@RandomUser2401die
@@andrewwood3033 die was? I appreciate your attempt at speaking German.
I've never seen Alex so in his element. He's just so happy and enthusiastic and excited. Love to see it.
Being able to just use a Bluetooth speaker for the rear audio and hopefully in the future it'll be RL and RR is very cool. Being able to decide where each speak is in software is a great idea, even going forward this should be a feature of Bluetooth 5
Assuming the Bluetooth speaker itself is stereo, you already have both rear channels.
What I'm waiting for is the tws tech to make it's way to a detachable speaker for better separation
I've been running with this idea in my head for years now, but I just don't have the know-how to even get started on turning that idea into reality. Just imagine having a graphical interface where you can drag and drop the exact locations of each speaker and possibly even separate audio according to the instrument/voice using AI or some other intricate algorithm!
it's all in the software they use nahimic
if they want can do, my cheap msi($600) gaming laptop has left channel n right channel configuration in software. maybe in premium laps it's already there?
for me it's very useful feature.
I'm glad CES is back after all these years :)
@Jamine💖 lol no.
It's a bot.
Just report the bots, they'll never learn to stop until Google drops the ban hammer on them.

Scam bot.
Magnesium alloy laptops have been around since the mid '80s. I was a System Engineer for GRiD systems. I have a 1520 (286) laptop still in my bookshelf. Even though a laptop back then would weigh 20 lbs. The thing about the laptop was that it has survived throwing a laptop down the steps at a customer site. It wasn't planned on being dropped, but the SE servicing the client managed to drop it with his butter hands. The hinge broke, but a quick fix with a new hinge and a Phillips head screwdriver in less than five minutes. The LCD screen didn't break, and it was perfectly fine after that. Especially since it was his personal machine. Not bad for almost 40 years ago. Yes, I'm old as f--k, and am retired. 😛
A customer brought up that the laptop might be a fire hazard, in which case, we would have had to dig earthen pits to throw them in our stores. Turns out, it wasn't necessary! The alloy wasn't that flammable.
Whoa that's amazing. I have two magnesium-aluminium alloy laptops and they are THE most premium feeling and solid devices I own
Alex's honest analysis while roasting MSI or any brand he's reviewing is better than most comedy shows. He's the host I never knew I needed.
absolute id#ot
Sponsored by Acer on an MSI video is something hilarious
It never ceases to amaze me how they almost always seamlessly inject ads for their products and not slow down the video. Even the sponsored stuff gives you the needed info quick, but legible, then back to the video without lingering.
The remote editing stations are really paying off, video quality is top notch on these CES videos
Alex does such an awesome at the shows! He’s probably the best at LTT for the shows.
I’m so glad he’s the one who did the coverage this time, because the Paris coverage was super rough.
But thumbs up Alex! Like always you crush it!
Two comments to MSI:
1. Don't feel bad. There is not such thing as a perfect laptop as the form factor is one of compromise upon compromise. So that Alex has some nitpicks, I still think these are great examples of what is possible.
2. Thank you for building something other than ultralight, ultra slim laptops. Extra weight and size means they are so much more functional and capable.
While you’re right, I also think it’s a good think to nitpick like this. These companies need the recommendations from their consumers, and if they’re a good company, they’ll take them to heart.
And yes, I’ve had the same GIANT 17” laptop since 2012. People make fun of me when I pull it out, but guess who hasn’t had to buy a laptop in over a decade? I fully plan to get one of these giant beasts in a few years, and keep it for like 15 years.
@@D71219ONE what's the specs on that thing?
i7 1st gen?
@@D71219ONE I bet that 2012 17" laptop has slow sata ssd, terrible screen, lacks modern high speed ports, battery replaced couple times and contains outdated hardware that is not supported by manufacturers anymore (running at best win 10 or 8.1?)

Love you guys you guys fueled my dream of computers and helped me with learning about them.
I cannot express how genuinely excited I am for LTT CES content every year!
That touchpad is so cool. You can literally have more space for other stuff while not sacrificing functionality. The issue is that i think that it is handled just by a simple SW...
That Prestige 13 Evo brings back memories to my old Sony Vaio Pro 13: very lightweight (the Vaio was even lighter at just 921 grams) and still great I/O. If I were in the market for a new laptop, this would probably be on top of my list.
Looks like a decent lineup. Exciting to see so much TB4 at CES.
It is slightly shocking seeing how many SKUs are needed in a laptop lineup though.
Im kinda excited to see these! Thanks for the coverage!
The CES coverage so far this year is really fantastic
Can’t wait for more CES content!
Linus thank you for uploading daily and creating an amazing community
3:08 Immediately recognised what it was. That's the same Dolby Atmos demo video that is used at the large format CXC (Caribbean Cinemas Extreme) theatre near me. It's kind of cool how Atmos' object-based audio pipeline means you can pluck that same video and get the intended experience anywhere no matter if it's a movie theatre with 20 overhead speakers or MSI's weird laptop thingy with a Bluetooth speaker
I love how Alex roasts these laptops with the engineers standing right there, like when he knocked the pen away.
Because of videos like this, I always want laptop like Zephyrus G14 (for lan gaming which I actually do a lot) or something like LG gram to have my PC with me most of the time, but designs are getting so much better every year. This year there are OLED high refresh rate screen with 16:10 (which I love on laptops) and more CPU power than my 3 year old desktop o_o
That's the last time MSI lets Linus media group talk about their laptops at CES lol. I could feel the tension when Alex flicked the pen off the Creator Z17.
got to assume that pen should have been reversed, but no idea why wasn't highlighted by reps
The reps aren't the engineers, they are there to represent and showcase the product
He can still do a review Jeeves. So its too his advantage to be as nice as possible. Besides, there's no criticism MSI can get that doesn't apply or over shadow issues with other manufacturers.
11:47
I got last year's version of the z17, I love it so much!
The complain he said about the pen, you can use the magnet more on the laptop, it can go on top of the lower left or right of the keyboard next to the trackpad. But if you get yourself a metal panel laptop cooler, its a great combo that works along with it.
Alex is just awesome, one of my absolute favorites. He's just so knowledgeable, has a great presence in front of a camera and just has a perfectly mischievous way of doing things, it's super entertaining. Great work!
Alex is the GOAT. Dude’s hilarious (Riley is a bit funnier though sorry lol), and he straight up just doesn’t give a F about the reps standing there. He’s still giving us his honest opinions of the laptop. That’s what you need to do. I really appreciate his honesty. Edit: Not a fan of that RGB strip on the Raider GE78 HX, but it’s easily fixed if you just turn it off. Specs are great though!
How did you get Acer to sponser an MSI video!!!??? 0.o
Also love Alex's painfully accurate review of these units. You can tell he's really into this product segment.
Not a review. Stop calling first looks "reviews"
Loved the casualness Alex had with the MSI reps, so funnny!
Whacking the magnetic pen off the side of the laptop right in front of the MSI reps is so great.
Reviewing stuff in person in front of the people selling it is HILARIOUS to me 😂
Love Alex’s honesty about everything.
1:15 Oh, THAT is what the LTT Backpack was for! Way to go Lienus!
I really like these types of videos of showing everything a manufacturer has to offer in a laptop. You have done Lenovo and MSI one's now, just do quick fast-paced videos like these for all the rest of the brands hitting the same points with the same quick, quirky opinions so it's very easy to show someone who may not be that into tech how to make a good decision on a laptop they would want to use.
Wonder how many of these will actually hit shelves.
But so far not looking bad for MSI.
MSI, while not perfect, is still the most innovative laptop manufacture on the market today.
Its nice to see a new generation of laptops with a lot of weird features
Nice to see MSI gets featured on LTT. Hope you can review their MSI Modern Series in the future.
The Stealth 16 comes in a star blue and pure white sweet color!! Luv its white chassis😍😍
I’m surprised no one thought of the massive touchpad thing sooner, but I guess it’s harder to do on aluminum.
They did, that's not new. The true innovation is the simplest one, the slider over the camera. Finally we can put away the black electrical tape.
@@krane15 The slider over the camera is a very common old thing in laptops. Many of them have had them or dedicated physical switches for the camera for a very long time. Not to say that it isn't sweet.
The touch pad is pretty cool though even if it has been done before in different executions. To me the nice thing about it seems to be the layout of multiple macros and the size while making it an optional nice feature for use/gaming
@@willwunsche6940 Incorrect. The majority of laptops do not come with sliders. I've never seen one on a Mac. Have you?
@@krane15 a MacBook is the outlier of weird laptops. Sliders have been on laptops FOREVER. In 2020 Apple made a statement that they think people shouldn't use camera sliders for some reason. But sliders themselves have been around for a long long time, you can even search them up on Amazon and buy custom designs for $3 with little pandas or whatever with hundreds of options designed just for sliding over laptop cameras.
10 Laptops that cost you a kidney and will be bested by something cheaper and better within a year.
I love CES.
That's every tech ever.
Phones, tablets, cameras, laptops, and even cars.
You forgot to mention that they will all overheat and perform terribly.
A flagship product won't run out of performance in just a year. What usually happens first is a lack of support for the cards.
@@isaackvasager9957 that's not true

Was this video recorded before the weird CES stuff that released yesterday?
@1:55 Alex says that the DDR in the stealth 14 studio running at 5200 mega transfers per second is the fastest ram he’s seen that is removable, in a gaming laptop.
However, in the aforementioned video they posted yesterday with the weird stuff, @10:30, he talks about the refreshed legion 7i from Lenovo that runs at 6000 mega transfers per second (and it’s also the fastest he’s ever seen with removable ram, lol).
I’m guessing that this video might have been recorded before the weird stuff video yesterday (unless of course I missed something denoting or showing that it was actually recorded first, lol, which is entirely possible) or they’re just trying to get content out as quickly as possible (which I can appreciate!) and they’re not able to retain everything they say, lol.
Thanks though guys/gals!
if yall get these in for testing, id love to see some CA/GIS testing. Im really tired when ive got to go to the job site, and lug a 8 pound chunky DELL laptop along with a battery bank since my work laptop only has 2 hours of battery life.
3:18 I have the same software on my £730 Lenovo Ideapad. It's called Nahimic and I'm pretty sure you can download it on any device.
Damn, I love the placement of PgUp and PgDn keys (right next to arrow keys) on the "Prestige 13 Evo". Gives off a ThinkPad vibe. If only it had a better (than Intel Iris Xe Graphics) GPU. I'd really consider buying it.
I still remember years ago someone overclock a cpu to 5GHz and cool it down using liquid nitrogen. and now we can just get a laptop that can run over 5GHz with just air cooling. It always fascinate me how technology improves.
