This performance has stayed with me since I saw that broadcast. I often think about it, and I share it with others. Still touched to see it again. Inspired by such a horrible, gross and evil part of our modern history...for me one of the greatest moments for pop music...

Thank you for letting me be part of this experience. My neighbour is Spanish and our dogs are in love and bought a dictionary so we can talk ; she is caring for her mother who is 98. I was at this concert and now not so young but full of the joy and sorrow of this defiant celebration.

6:08 An incredible moment. You can see tears on this woman's face, and I believe they are tears being shed in happiness, knowing that her voice and the voices of other women in Chile, Argentina, etc., are finally being HEARD.
I know this is monotonous but the tour was sponsored by Amnesty International and other artists did their thing in the larger frame of this tour/movement that really meant something. A note about Sting and my ambivalence about him; alpha male, no-one would put up with him but Peter Gabriel who looks like he had to get slightly drunk to put up with the Sting show which was magnificent and moving .... until he began dancing with the grandmothers who were there to testify but he couldn't help himself it had to be slightly sexual and changing partners was done in a callous disregarding way .... compared with Gabriel who was connecting and caring and engaging. My sister knows Gordon Sumner, has done for years, still don't know how she puts up with him; actually her role like everyone else's is dictated by his whims and agenda. But the other vr real side of him still holds true; a voice in the wilderness in the '80s protesting Reagonomics and the Cold War when everyone else was in a disco or watching a Merchant/Ivory coffee table book/movie. And lest I forget, The Last Ships, about his early experience as a Giordie in Newcastle is pure genius. Got it out of my system!

I once attended in Germany a lecture by a psychologist who treaded a woman from Chile who had lost her husband (or father, I don't recall) this way and suffered from depression after her flight to Germany. I use this example when teaching my nurse students about trauma.
I remember this time, love & thanx to Sting & PG for all what they've done, and what they still do for planet and human rights !

estabamos hechos mierda en Argentina y por supuesto tambien Chile ....la vida me regalo que pudiera estar en el staff gigantesco de produccion de este recital tan importante en esos años y verlos a Sting y a Peter Gabriel bailar con nuestras amadas madres de plaza de mayo fue una emocion muy grande y darnos cuenta de cuanto han hecho ellas para que no se invisibilize las atrocidades que dejaron en nuestros paises las dictadura genocidas, unidos por el dolor pero tambien por el amor. Y el amor es mas fuerte !!! hermoso recuerdo , mucha emocion verlo de nuevo

I worked for Amnesty International who sponsored this tour for 2 years and I couldn't take it. Only Sting with his Alpha male whatever could have swept everyone up: I love Peter Gabriel but this is '88 he is possibly where I was, in shock and horror. The advantage of being Sting is that you don't care which old lady you dance with; that is also his loss as a human being. Peter Gabriel came to life dancing with those brave women grieving for their disappeared. It's all good, just an observation. Who is more useful? We need them both.
I remeber seeing this when it was first broadcast. Emotive I thought then and I still do.

Love this song, especially this version with Peter Gabriel! And when Sting sang about Pinochet and his challenge against him, I still get chills. While Pinochet will be on the wrong side of history and rotting in hell, the many people who fought against his oppression, the brave women, and of course Sting and the artist are in the right side of history, fighting for humanity!
I'm sure Sting as an alpha male with a big consience would have risked his life alone; Peter Gabriel historically only person who can tour with him; on the same page. History in the making. My best friend lives in Brazil 2020 government still a mess I hear about it every day never really stopped. The role of artists in a culture, for me, is huge.
