    Fantastic trees, I have not started my scenery yet. After watching this I am going to make mine in fall and use your tree suggestion. THANKS!

      Awesome - scenery is the fun part! I do have a vid that talks specifically about how to realistically model fall - check it out - you might find some more inspiration.

    The both look great! Trees are not all alike, some suffer, some thrive.

    Those are some good looking trees for sure!

      I was pleasantly surprised with how they came out. I think the forest is going to look pretty decent on the hillside!

    Hi. Nicely done. One other version I would suggest. Instead of using the lichen, use the fiber used for stuffing pillows and stuffed plush animals. Walmart, fabric stores, and crafts stores will have it. Next, stretch out pieces to create thinned out pieces much like spider webs. Paint them the color of your branches. Using your tacky glue, gently lay small pieces over your branches. Then you can sprinkle your “ leaves “ material over that. Don’t over saturate the fibers with too many leaves. Leave lots of “airy” space. The fiber web acts as small branches for your leaves. Try it. You’ll like it. Just another way to create hero trees using cheap armatures. See ya.

      I have seen that technique. i'll be at Walmart this weekend so I'll see what they have and give it a go. Thx!

      I have used both Woodland Scenics poly fiber, which is basically the same as the pillow fiber, but got a better result using Woodland Scenics foliage, which can also be teased out like the poly fiber. However, neither are any good for fall colours. In both cases, I have applied both Noch leaves, or even a fine turf, as the actual leaves. The Woodland Scenics foliage does have some ground foam imbedded in it, so the added leaves are just adding extra details.

    Great tutorial. I would have to say that I prefer the addition of the super tree parts.

      The fine structure of the Super Trees is hard to beat. I think the combination of the two are going to look good on the hillside.

    Dollar store hair spray is an option for adhesive to add the leaves.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  2 года назад

      Absolutely. I thought I had a can of 3M spray adhesive which also would have worked, but I must have used it. The hair spray wouldn't make such a mess either.

    Rustoleum Camouflage paint is also good for painting armatures

      There's a pretty cool selection of Rustoleum paints that have a nice application in modeling. had had one that was a dirt color and it had flecks of different colors in it, was really cool. I'm going to have to check them out again this week and see what goodies might be in the isle. Thanks for the reminder!

    Many thanks for this. Will definitely try the lichen on some of my trees.
    Can I also suggest trying the Noch leaves rather than the Super Leaves. I find the Noch are smaller leaves than the Super Leaves and thus look a little better in N scale.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  2 года назад

      I'll check out the Noch leaves. I'll probably have to get them from Walthers - Noch isn't a very common brand on the shelves here, which is a shame because Noch and Deluxe Materials (UK) make some really nice products.

      @@AlleghenyNorthern Tried the lichen on a couple of trees. Definite improvement over the foliage that I had previously used, but only on the smaller armatures - those less than 10cm (roughly 4 inches) high. For the larger armatures, I found that the lichen lay along the branches, so really did not fill the gaps between the main branches, which is where the super trees branches are better.

    Hi, the sea foam tree is far better looking than the lichen. yI agree that clump foliage just doesn't look right. Never tried one with lichen, so I'm going to have a go at a couple. I usually use the sea foam with a sprinkle of fine turn and complimentary leaf colour. Only negative comment is that you didn't clean off the branches after they were done. I'm sure you did later and hopefully, newbies would realise that too. Anyhow, nice video and I learnt something new, lichen trees ! Cheers, Rick the Bulldog

    Interesting technique and materials. However, I resent the remark about “hippies getting into the model industry.” That was poor taste. Get a clue. We all have to work TOGETHER to address serious environmental issue, which are not going away no matter your political orientation. Don’t ruin your presentation by alienating some of your fellow modelers.

      Yes ironic that someone so into trees calls other people that care about actual trees hippies 😊
