Thank you so much for the comment on gauge! its one of the reasons i'm afraid to making clothing, (as i think i crochet on the tight side) its also a reason I was worried about making my own patterns! it makes me feel better!!
My pleasure! I'm so glad this was helpful! I have another article on swatches that might help, too: americancrochetassociation.blog/how-to-crochet-a-swatch/ Enjoy!
Thanks for the great video. It was very informative for someone like me who is just wanting to get started writing simple patterns. I'm looking forward to taking the class now!
Thank you for watching! I look forward to hearing what you think about the material after you review it :)

Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
I print patterns because I don't like reading/working from the computer, and I like comparing patterns. I usually find patterns that have 1 element that I like, so I don't want to knit the complete garment, or I am looking at multiple patterns to decide which one I like the most, and will actually make.
Thank you for watching!
Went over and saved all 3 to my phone's drive. Will probably not look at it until after the New Year. Still recovering from the seizure, ended up with a gash on my temple. Got a couple of stitches. Overall good just more tired than usual.
I have to say that grams/yards/fiber/weight is very hard to substitute when it is hard to find discontinued yarn. I collect a lot of patterns from everywhere so I see this often especially with a little older patterns even with major companies.
I like to use YarnSub.com to find details on a yarn (even discontinued yarns) to find the important characteristics, especially to substitute!
Yes a template would definitely help me
The link is in our video description - enjoy!
@@AmericanCrochetAssociation whaa thank you so much 😍😍
I save patterns to my drop box so I don't lose it (and so that I can download it on my phone if need be), but I always print it out. I feel that it helps my eyes so they don't strain as much.
Thank you for watching!
A template would be great 👍🏻

How do I know the patterns I write are original? Like if I make a blanket out of granny squares can I say that is mine? Even though I didn't invent granny squares?
Thank you for watching! I'm not a lawyer, so it is difficult to answer that question outside of simply understanding ethical standards, copyrights and trademarks.
I was watching the rebroadcast and am not able to find the template

When do you have a course and where is your course would be?

I'm a visual person, so I like to write diagrams with the writting instructions in my patterns. I start to write patterns in Etsy, and I have made about 7 patterns, but they look like hand made, I make the diagrams by hand, which is a lot of work, and It doesn't look pprofessional, so my question is, do you teach how to make the diagrams of stitches with and app, or something like stitch fiddle in this course? Thank you!
Great question, thank you for asking!
This course does not specifically teach how to use chart-making software, but we do recommend StitchFiddle. This course focuses on universal terms, standards, and guidelines so that you can learn how to write anything you can imagine.
@@AmericanCrochetAssociation Thank you.
@@angelavalentino3261 my pleasure!
I save patterns online
Thank you for watching!
Please tell me what the name of the crochet pattern is ; two different thread colors, one side shows up one color, other side the other color.
Hello Sue! This video is about our crochet pattern writing template, which you can find linked in the video description. We have more than 1 template to share. Is that what you're asking about?
I gave up after 10 minutes. It was a commercial for the pattern writing class.
The free templates are linked in the video description, so you can just click right to them. However, there is a lot to understand so that you can effectively use our templates, and write a universally understood pattern, so we try to outline that as best as possible. If you need help, or want to learn more, of course we have a workshop that will help. Peace + Love + Crochet
90% of the time I print my patterns
Thank you!
Why are crochet/knitting patterns written with abreviations, especially simple patterns? I understand why that would have been true when printing was charged per letter, or per word. That's not true anymore, and even as someone who wants to write patterns, I feel a little intimidated by the abbreviations.
Great question! Using universal standards, terms and abbreviations will make the intentions of the pattern writer very clear, and the instructions easy to follow at a glance.
