I’ve listened to many, many covers of this song and it’s always just been a continuous streak of covers that have never been able to even come close to capturing the raw emotion and the tragic beauty that lies within Don McClean’s original version. But ladies, well, you’ve broken that streak today. Absolutely spellbinding work! 🖤🧡
Suicide is often an attempt to get people to listen, perhaps to bring visibility to one who feels invisible. Great rendition of that song. Here’s to those who feel invisible.
One of my favourite Don McLean songs. Great to hear Mona on the accordion, really adds to the arrangement. As always suppurb harmonies and stellar guitar playing from Lisa.
I'm 72 years old and I've heard many covers of many songs but nothing comes close to your rendition of my favourite Don McLean song absolutely superb you girls never cease to amaze me i hope i continue to live on for many more years listening to your beautiful songs and wonderful harmonies love you both ❤️ ♥️
...I'm 72 also - first heard the 50 years ago in 1972 in a VW bus belonging to the girlfriend of my army buddy - riding the back roads behind the post at Illesheim, Germany...this was on Doc McLean's 'American Pie' album that came out at the end of 1971 but got no play on AFN because the 'Pie' overwhelmed everything!!!
Yet another 72 year old who bought the album on release and fell in love with this song. It's all the more poignant after my wife and I visited the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. The Mona Lisa Twins demonstrate the depth of their talent with such a sensitive rendition. Their musicianship on all their songs is impeccable. Mona's "Starry Night" blouse was a nice touch as well.
Lisa's voice is as pure and precise as her guitar playing. Which is to say "extremely." Mona's vocals and accordion add just the right texture to fill out the sound. It's a beautiful, beautiful combination.
I loved this song when it was released in 1971. I was 15 years old and years later I taught myself to play it on guitar. I have watched hundreds of versions over the years. Girls your version is the most beautiful version I have ever heard. I couldn’t stop my tears as you sang and played with your heart and soul. I wish you all the success you deserve and thank you for your wonderful music
Same history here. I'm 66 and live in Chile and since I heard this song my first time in the 70s i catched the chords in my acoustic guitar and enjoying playing and singing...Wonderful cover girls!!
I have loved this song forever (at 65, that's pretty close to forever) and usually don't like hearing anyone other than Don McLean performing this song, until now...I thoroughly enjoyed your playing and singing this long time favorite of mine.
Don McLean lives about twenty miles from where I am now. I am certain he'll hear your rendition of this amazing song. This recalls chills to my arms. Lovely, young ladies. You are so loved.
Wow. Such an absolutely stunning version. Your voices are so perfect for the song and the harmonies opened me up to be touched by the lyrics. No song I have heard by the two of you has moved me the way this one just did. It also brought me back to 1971 when I was just nine years old
Young women, you do much honor toward your predecessors, Beatles included, Don McClean included. In those short minutes, you moved me, truly, without big bands or whirling lights, the way Don McClean did when I saw him sing this at the Winnepeg Folk Festival in 1984. Never doubt the true power of your perception and expression, for these are marvels in a land of showy pinwheels and computer tricks.
Your version of this song is absolutely sublime. Your singing expresses so much feeling and emotions, and by the time it gets to the part "Vincent..this world was never meant for someone as beautiful as you..." the way you sing this I can't help but feel tears about to swell up. The beautiful power of your vocals and harmonies is incredible. Kudos to your truly moving performance! Love it.
Jung, I agree with you 100%. Mona taking the time to learn a new instrument and doing it so flawlessly, and the emotion of Lisa makes "Vincent" one of best Duo Sessions that they have recorded. Your entry perfectly describes MLTs tribute to Don McLean!
...I first heard this 50 years ago in February 1972 in as VW bus riding outside the post in Illesheim, Germany where I was stationed with 4/35 Armor (The Iron Horsemen)...my buddy borrowed his girlfriend's bus while she was touring Moscow...he told me..."you GOTTA hear this song!!!" American Pie had just been replaced as #1 on AFN by America's "Horse with no Name" in January after two months on top of the chart...I'll never forget where I was when I first heard this...
"Vincent" is one of my all-time favourites and I usually dislike cover versions with a passion, but I absolutely *LOVE* this one! And you were right, it did need something else than a second guitar. The accordion sounds beautiful and somehow captures a bit of what things might have been like when Vincent was alive. Your cover was so beautiful it nearly made me cry. The only reason I didn't was because I had to sing along, but I did it around the big lump I had in my throat. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Simply put? Lovely version of this brilliant master piece from Don McClean. The heartfelt voices in harmony, the wonderful guitar picking and riffs, the accordion, makes this song fresh and new. Mona and Lisa have the ability to take songs and cover them with respect to the original and make it their own. Wow these ladies are so talented it is refreshing. Thank you Mona and Lisa for sharing with us your god given talents. we all love you!
I'm just so happy that the algorithm sent me to this channel. I've listened to this cover, and "Both Sides Now" and was moved by MonaLisa Twins' singing and playing these songs in a very authentic way. I was an adolescent at the time, and I still feel that same intense beauty and melancholy in my 60s as I did as a kid listening to these songs. Thanks for keeping these songs alive as you express your own love of them through your singing and playing.
Thank you both for sharing your talent that we can see, hear and enjoy. Love the starry night blouse, great detail as always. Beautiful musicianship and vocales. Well done ladies! 👏
If you don't know the story, it's in the video description how Mona and Lisa decided the song needed an accordion, which they then bought online, refurbished, and turned over to Mona to learn to play. All to make this song as beautiful as they could. The MonaLisa Twins don't perform covers to show off their voices or their playing, they do it to show off the original.
A superb rendition of this classic song. I never cease to marvel at the wonder of RUclips - bringing such talented musicians as the MonaLisa Twins into my home.
It is a beautiful, poignant song. You have made it even more beautiful, ladies. That pared-down version and your stunning vocals, well, I am tearing up in admiration...
In den 70igern habe ich mit meinem besten Freund Musik gemacht. Zwei Gitarren, zwei Stimmen. Vincent haben wir oft gesungen, aber eure Version ist etwas ganz besonderes, Wonderful
played this some 15 years ago on wedding for my lovely wife as an accoustic version of Mr. Chet Atkins and just reminding to do it again on a birthday... - girls, your version is wonderful!
My youngest brother died, self-inflicted , this is a song that was sung at his funeral. My brother-in-law and I were stunned by that being 💔💔a choice. You two do it beautifully. Love your music and choosing to be on youtube.
Oh my god. I cannot imagine the depths of what you are feeling. This world has driven so many people to make this choice. May healing someday find you.
Mona and Lisa, I think I have something special to share with you. The first three words of this song were on the birthcard of my son. He was born two months too early. We had some shaky early years with him, but he got through it all. 21 years later, he is sitting next to me after a week in which we busked on the streets of Roermond with our favorite songs on guitar, amongst which songs of the Beatles and CSN&Y which we both love. We sang those songs with all of our souls and we had so much fun together. I am so proud of him. His name.....is Vincent.
I've heard this beautiful song many times, and your version is the best of all the versions. MONAS Pietro is the perfect touch. Your version is so spell binding that it's hard to watch because of all the tears. Ladies, I've said it before, but the MonaLisa Twins magic is something very, very special and not to be overlooked. Thank you for your very special gift to music and to your world of fans. 🥰🥺 Rick
Beautifully done. I also like the way the video is done. Excellent work. I have bought some of your work. I fell in love with your "I bought myself a politician". As an old guy (81) I really appreciate the cover songs. Thank you.
I look forward to your appearance on RUclips as it's always a high point of my day. Your rendition of this song brought tears to my eyes for the sadness of the lyrics but joy toyy heart for your beautiful voices. Thank you
The only other time this song brought a tear to my eye was when I first heard the original version many moons ago. Thank you for bringing that back to me. 🥹👍
Great rendition of a beautiful song. Mona, I have heard you asked several times in Q&A's what instruments you can play and I've never heard you mention a 120 bass accordion 🙂
Thank you SO MUCH for releasing this to RUclips! So unique and demonstrative of your amazing artistry and incredible diversity of talent! My favorite and most emotion-provoking duo session of all! PERFECTION!
This was a favourite of my late mother's and her colleague Liz Cox in the 1970s when they worked at Chesham Prep School. Such a beautiful song and a lovely performance by these two girls.
Maybe I'm biased but here we hear the finest arrangement, clearest & brightest vocals, & most imaginatively instrumented cover of this oft covered song. Thank you. Absolutely brilliant (& I almost forgot! Best dressed for this occasion!!!). xo
I repeat what I have been saying all along (because I believe that it can never be said enough). These two are incomparable. Each and every time they knock it out of the park. I cannot understand for the life of me how they are not much, much bigger than they are.
I first heard this song in my first semester at college, at the age of 18. It was life-changing. And today, nearly 40 years later, hearing it from you, it is like hearing it again for the very first time, but with the added warmth of familiarity. And once again it moves me deeply, like it did the very first time. So wonderful. I love what you two do, and every time I hear you cover a song, it rivals the original in its wonder and beauty. Bless you both.
The MonaLisa Twins painting with their music. What a gorgeous piece of art, I am speechless ❤️
Very well put, Sally Sings👏👏👏
.
Yes
There is not a song that MonaLisa Twins do that they do not absolutely kill. The musicianship, the vocals, the camera work and audio are all superb.
Beautiful in every way ❤
If you watch their videos from over the last 10 years they also capable of playing a wide range of musical instruments.
I'm 72 years old and these precious woman have made me weep.
70 and yes.
62 and same
Just turned 70 and ditto.
70 going on 71 and it's affected me the same way. Moved beyond words.

Beautiful version of one of my favourite songs. Thank you ladies!
They never fail to amaze me! Beautifully done!
Totally agree 😎👍
Josh Groban made a wonderful tribute also, very emotional and heartfelt
Suicide is often an attempt to get people to listen, perhaps to bring visibility to one who feels invisible. Great rendition of that song. Here’s to those who feel invisible.
And that will be very soon.
One of my favourite Don McLean songs. Great to hear Mona on the accordion, really adds to the arrangement. As always suppurb harmonies and stellar guitar playing from Lisa.
Beautiful women, AMAZING SONG. VINCENT IS PLAYED NEXT TO VAN Gogh Painting.
There could not have been a more perfect song choice, very lovely rendition.

It continues to be relevant with saddening suicide numbers. Any light shed into that dark corner would be a real blessing. I'm 72 also.
I’m just 69 but I’m still so very impressed by the talent of the Twins ❤
Beautiful singing which really highlights the emotion of the song. Mona and Lisa at their best.
I saw Don McLean do this at the Roxy in Los Angeles when this came out. He would be pleased.
(moment of silence -- followed by thunderous applause -- standing ovation)
This actually gave me chills. I've heard this song many times before but this was like I was hearing it for the very first time.

First listening to this song in 1975 when I was 14 and still listening till now.. ❤️❤️❤️🎶🎶🎶😢😢😢
Same history here. I'm 66 and live in Chile and since I heard this song my first time in the 70s i catched the chords in my acoustic guitar and enjoying playing and singing...Wonderful cover girls!!
I have always loved that song, you breathed new life and love into it, that was the best cover I have heard, thank you.
Made me cry
WOW! Mona and Lisa have made this into one of the most beautiful songs ever performed.
They say the accordion is a dying art. Maybe not. Solemn. Wistful. 5 Star.
I can (and do) find fault with EVERYTHING; but this was simply beautiful!
I have loved this song forever (at 65, that's pretty close to forever) and usually don't like hearing anyone other than Don McLean performing this song, until now...I thoroughly enjoyed your playing and singing this long time favorite of mine.

Move over Ann and Nancy. This might be the best sister duo in music right now!
Lisa’s voice is as pure and precise as her guitar playing.
The accordion is a stroke of genius.
The best cover of the song I’ve ever heard.
Wow. Such an absolutely stunning version. Your voices are so perfect for the song and the harmonies opened me up to be touched by the lyrics. No song I have heard by the two of you has moved me the way this one just did. It also brought me back to 1971 when I was just nine years old

Thank you both for sharing your talent that we can see, hear and enjoy. Love the starry night blouse, great detail as always. Beautiful musicianship and vocales. Well done ladies! 👏
I like how Lisa's accent sneaks out a bit here and there, just enough to add a bit of charm to the singing.
That was magnificent Mona and Lisa . You are a very bright light in a murky world. Thank You from Wisconsin USA
