    Just started this, 5 years after launch - and three minutes after completing the legendary trilogy. It’s a good game! Not really like the OG Mass Effect, but really, can anything be? Andromeda is engaging, fun, and has some genuine wow moments. Again, totally different than the trilogy. It feels somehow lighter. And after Mass Effect 3,I needed that.

      It's a very good balanced game where you have your relaxing moments traveling alien landscapes, tense combat engagements, big ass bosses, exploration, dialogues, tailoring your character etc. etc.

    The glyph puzzles are Sudoku. A cute easier version of sudoku.

      I think that a full scale Hanidoku or Cage Sudoku would be a bit too difficult for your average player, lol. Especially if solving the ME A versions makes their head spin already, ha ha ha

    • @MaartenKok
      @MaartenKok 7 лет назад +3

      Honestly, I do a lot of sudoku, but I had a bit of a problem doing the puzzle in the trial, since the symbols aren't numbers, and they're not very distinct from each other.

    • @DarkTenka
      @DarkTenka 7 лет назад +3

      I ... don't know how you could possibly find a 4x4x4 sudoku with 4 possible symbols even remotely hard even if they arent numbers. I really hope we get hit by the full 9x9x9 with very sporatic symbols later in the game .. but I'm not holding my breath.

    • @OlinNiord
      @OlinNiord 7 лет назад +3

      I don't find all the symbols to be super distinct from each other so I can easily see myself not noticing an otherwise obvious error a time or three.

      I was a little cautious for the first one, but I had gotten a feel for them by the 2nd or 3rd. You will undoubtedly be doing the puzzle upwards of 50 times or so during the full game (assuming you dont cop out with the auto solve) you will eventually "get the feel" for them. It's inevitable.

    ive been playing the trial for a few hours now and yea it has the weird animations but there are so many good things about it that made me smile and almost tear up about, im gonna get it despite the animations. if thats the only reason you womt get the game then you're missing out.

      so what about animations. Games used to be judged based on how good they actually are. Rather it be the gameplay or the story. Now in 2017 when graphics are amazing people are freaked out about bad anaimations? My suggestion is to never pick up a copy of Doom 1, Duke Nukem 3d, GTA 3, or hell don't even pick up Fall Out 3. LOL

    • @pokealja
      @pokealja 7 лет назад +1

      james davis The industry is changing, though. It's more works of art paired with story. It would be like people playing the playstation one, and then someone came out with an Atari game for it. Told them it was top of the line graphics. Told them it was okay because the story was better. Most gamers would frown and ask if you were cheating them somehow- gaming changes, consumers change, and industry standards change. Just as cartoon animation wouldn't be considered on par if it was in black and white today, it's not going to be recieved that well in a community that has already had a taste of the new industry standard. Personally, for me, if I wanted to play a game with 2005 graphics, I wouldn't spend 80 bucks on it. Making us spend 80 bucks for a game that has the equivalent- if not worse- character animations and graphics as a game from 2005 is NOT going to be recieved well with consumers. That's just a fact.

      Elite Huso I've had the full game for a few days now. I haven't really noticed any thing that stands out. Too immersed in the game to pay attention. I haven't had any crashes yet either. Curious what the patch will fix though. I have noticed in all comments across any video, or forum the people who complain about the game are actively seeking/looking for those. Even though I know some are there being into the game I don't notice them at the moment. I'm about 15hrs in. Work keeps getting in the way.

  • @cainlegacy7784
    @cainlegacy7784 7 лет назад +47

    All the reviews up to this point had me ALMOST deciding not to try this game. That would have been horrible, because though I'm only three hours in, I am loving Andromeda and am getting very strong Mass Effect vibes from the content. The facial animations are only slightly off-putting and the occasional walk like a duck thing is very, very rare (mostly when going down stairs). This is a great game if you liked the cinematic and epic feel of the original Mass Effect games. Reviewers who have to nit-pick and denigrate things in order to inflate their sense of self importance should be ashamed of themselves.

    • @wardogthemasterofwar
      @wardogthemasterofwar 7 лет назад +1

      So having a different opinion, to you, is "nit picking and denigrating". I wonder if you didn't like a game and reviewers did, what you'd call them then? "Sell outs"?
      Get over it buddy, not everyone likes the game. Nothing you can do about it and trying to paint those that disagree with you as the bad guys isn't going to help anything except your ego.

    • @cainlegacy7784
      @cainlegacy7784 7 лет назад +5

      I feel that people who choose to put on the "hat" of a "reviewer" should at least make an effort to be fair and informative in those reviews. It can't be denied that many of the "reviewers" chose to exaggerate some deficiencies for the sake of drama and lols. Any review that concentrates almost exclusively on the animations and the montage is doing a severe disservice to those who might turn to them for actually useful advice. I don't claim to be a reviewer, and my opinion shouldn't matter to anyone else, but I can say that I wasn't personally bothered by the few animation issues that cropped up in now my first 10 hours of playing and the writing is generally average to above average, with the voice acting being quite acceptable to good. Even the worst case scenario of the brief exchanges with Addison weren't nearly as bad as most of the early "reviewers" let on for the sake of causing drama.

    • @3ndeavor
      @3ndeavor 7 лет назад +3

      Cain Legacy check out ACG's review of this game. The most unbiased review out there and he says strongly that there's good game play in here if you can find it. however, for him, and a decent amount of people harping on faces and animations, is that shipping a product that regularly shows it has problems with animations and graphics and performance but manages to MAKE SURE the multiplayer ships with MICROTRANSACTIONS shows truly where the heart of the game is at. No professionalism, cash grab included.
      In the end, he rates it as "buy in a deep sale or rent" rather than an absolute must buy. Very unique and telling score system
      Sometimes it's more about the quality of the meal, not just that it has the meat and potatoes and a sweet desert.

    I've owned the game since day one and I've put 29 hours into it and I'm loving every single minute. I'm really excited to keep getting deeper into the storyline and I love the split decisions in the game where they have you press a button real quick in the Cinematic scenes for a different outcome. That's the little things that make this game really exciting to play more of! Definitely one of my favorite game series hands down!!!

    put about 30 hours into the game and have been focusing mainly on Side missions, haven't made any decisions that I regret yet. but one thing that has helped me the most was getting my omni grenade maxed out. making it very powerful and getting extra grenades can take out a destroyer with 2 grenades and still have about 3 more.also, huge advice I ran across a remnant architect on voeld and it took me forever to kill it!!! I seriously was fighting this thing for an hour. it wouldn't open up it's circuits on its legs for me to kill, it just kept spawning more remnant observors and stuff... I eventually realized that the task description in the upper right of the screen said "eliminate remaining remnant" as I looked a little harder ( all while still fighting this damn thing) I noticed their was a remnant bastard stuck on top of the roof of the complex I was at. after I killed that it continued on with the process of it being killed by me ((opened it's legs) Giggity!).Check your tasks and read carefully it will save you a lot of headaches.Who out there didn't kill the angarian AI system on voeld what was the results?? I destroyed it, didn't really get anything other than XP.

    I honestly don't see why all the trashing. The game is fantastic. Sure I've encountered some bugs here and there but I didn't see anything that can't be fixed with a patch... Or anything game breaking for that matter. Oh and everyone is exaggerating about the animations. The trashing will stop once everyone plays it and bioware patches the major glitches.

      Manos Alimpertis
      People just want a reason to complain.
      Those who are choosing not to play it because youtubers who are payed to have an opinion say it's bad.
      The combat system is so much better than previous ME's plus the voice acting, one of the biggest complaints, is actually REALLY good.
      There was a whole cutscene where instead of just answering a question you, as Ryder, can make the other person realize the answer themselves by asking them questions. It seemed like a fun alternative to simply "yes, I would like to do that".
      There is some glaring animation issues but as you said.. patches exist.

    Sure there's glitches and visual issues with the game and people say that mass effect 2 + 3 are better but to me it feels like mass effect 1! Some of the issues that plagued me1 now are evident in andromeda. However, this is just a new beginning in a new system and until you have a base to work with you can't really do the stuff that is in me2 + me3! You need to set a foundation before building a great monument! In my mind andromeda is a great start and despite the issues that are not exactly good to see or experience the bottom line is that andromeda is a new start and it tries to remain true to its origins! I just hope that in time people will see it for what it is and not what it isn't. There's always room for improvement and it will come in time!
    Good luck fellow pathfinders!

    I have played the trial for 10 hours. Here are some opinions if someone is interested.
    For the moment this game reminds me of Mass Effect 1, more than the other two. It is a more paused game than 2 and 3. You go around with the Nomad, the fights are in more open spaces, etc...
    The combat is pretty cool, and fun. I had to get used to it tho, because I just replayed the trilogy and it is quite different.
    The writing was not bad so far. Maybe not as good as the begining of the first game, but ut is too soon to jugde properly. The thing is that it is written in a lighter tone. I suppose we won't have a spooky conversation with Sovereign (what a great moment, this one).
    The usual bugs of a brand new game are there (like there were bugs in The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and many other role-playing games around the release date).
    The facial animations are mediocre. That is the truth, specially for the protagonist and some characters, like Peebee for instance.
    But in the end, I found it to be a very entertaining game and for sure I will buy it and play the sh*t out of it. The facial animations are a minor portion of the game. Pretty much all the rest looks good.

    Here are a few things I wish I knew not mentioned in this video:
    1. Combo primer vs. Combo detonator (unfortunately for tech, the detonators are easier to hit and not channeled)... it`s on the icon at the corner of the skill... but read the ones you level up. They're a huge damage boost.
    2. Some abilities and weapons do different things when you hold and fire rather than just firing (ie, overload, some weapons)
    3. Inferno is an awesome sniper rifle, esp. with grenade launcher.
    4. There`s a difference between tech power, biotic power (these two are obvious), COMBAT POWER, and just power (which is all three... I think)
    5. Paying attention to your class passive and what it does; all of the sudden I had a handy glyph following me around. It also tells you that even putting points in things you'll never use might jack up your passive.
    6. Leveling up teammates... should go without saying, but I only saw the option after I was through with Eos.
    7. You can scroll closer to your map so that it doesn`t look like a jumbled mess
    8. Research points in remnant tech and the third are scarce but milky way research is pretty abundant (because of avp)
    9. Some AVPs are way better than others: take the one that drops the caches around the maps early...
    10. You can put off fighting architects, at least until you got your character figured out, especially the one on Voeld (where you have to watch your radiation levels). I spent three hours trying to beat that guy (I play higher difficulty) when I had not really learned how to maximize my character's potential, yet.
    11. Peebee unlocks another tech pet that`s probably better than the turret, which is clumsy.
    12. You can hit T on your nomad anywhere and return to Tempest. You should routinely return, especially when your character is first established and you need to jack up your gear.
    13. You can fast travel to drop points.
    14. If you use tactical cloak, you can interact with items and not break stealth
    15. You can switch your skill set mid fight and even set favourites in case you`re fighting an architect or destroyer and feel that a flame thrower is maybe not the optimal option.
    16. You`re not always safe in cover... see architect or destroyer.
    17. Tasks are not that important... if they`re not marked, don`t waste your time...
    18. Nomad upgrades are pretty useful, especially boost; boost helps you climb steep inclines
    19. Like he said, check merchants after avp upgrades... you want to look for good mods.
    20. This game isn`t as organized as ME3 with weapon buffs, but you basically have a few types, scope, weight, barrel, and melee; some are experimental with penalties.
    21. Special mods you can only use when you're building weapons. If you deconstruct the weapon you build, you get your mod back.
    22. Charge up weapons might seem good, but in big boss fights, they aren't as good... just a warning. Gear yourself for the difficult encounters.
    23. Last but not least: Try to complete the vault quests almost as soon as you get to a planet, because they will unlock the region more so that you aren't scouring a map twice.

    I got it on pre-order. Overall so far, really fun, excellent stuff, but there are some major issues and character problems that were difficult for me to slog through, not long after I got to the Nexus. People should really be aware of those so that it doesn't blindside them and leave them with the impression that the game is ruined.
    Animation:
    Well, first off, the CC is too limited. Just keep in mind that you can't choose different feature sets once you pick a preset, and most of the presets are horrendous. So the style of nose, eyes, and ears, things like that. You can't choose a different combination of features, which is way too restrictive, but you can still make a decent looking character. It's much tougher to make a passable fem Ryder. The adaptation of the parent characters to your twin designs is outstanding, though.
    Facial animation is horrendous for certain side characters in particular. I honestly think somebody was high and thought it would be funny that a character lacking basic emotes or.. well, any degree of expression, was just left as is, and opened her dialogue with the line, "My face is tired." Like an ill considered response to early criticism of facial animation in the trailers or something. It's not that bad through the vast majority of what I've played, though, really, and the mains are emotive.
    Body animation. They basically made a one size fits all walk animation and skeletal posture for every species in the game, and whether your characters are armored up or casual. Including humans of both genders. It's weird, awkward, and amateurish at times, when there aren't special cinematic animations, basically. They all have the salarian/turian posture and walk. Really egregiously doesn't work for humans, pretty often. Hope they patch unique animation sets into the game for humans and asari, at least. Otherwise, there's a lot of gorgeous animation in the game. The environments, planets, ships, etc. are a new high water mark for BioWare, and it's not close. The sense of perspective and scale is amazing.
    Combat and ground mission exploration are great, which was a treat after I was worried about that before launch. The combat V.I. is much stronger than what we saw in trailers, and it's a very fun game as a whole.
    Dialogue:
    I think the banter, companion, and main story dialogue system and writing is as strong or stronger than it's ever been. I LOVE the dialogue choice and tone systems most of the time. But then you've got the Nexus, and it's like a low rent version of the citadel and the stilted expository dialogue system of Mass 1, with bad/flat writing and a terribly miscast salarian (Director Tann) who speaks exactly like his real life comedian voice actor, slow and over-acted, with long, pronounced gaps and meandering soliloquy. He's basically the opposite of what a salarian voice performance should be, and since his dialogue is written to the quick delivered, tangent prone prototypical salarian style, it's extremely difficult to sit through a conversation with him. Tann is a monster of suspension of disbelief breaking, sleep inducing boredom and wasted time. There's also a female krogan that sounds like a higher pitched turian, but she's not really a bad time like Tann. Otherwise, the games voice performances so far are fine to excellent, so there's light at the end of the tunnel. The general sound design and music are mostly fantastic.
    So, those are the pitfalls in my experience, but despite that, I'm having a lot of fun with the game. So don't get discouraged with the early issues. The game is mostly great fun, if uneven in presentation at places. I do recommend it, so long as you can look beyond those shortcomings. Just be aware, it gets better.

    Actually I found that in Mass Effect 2, once I got all the story based DLC, I WAS able to go back and forth between renegade and paragon throughout the game and still have enough points in one of them to resolve all the arguments between my crew. But yeah that was only after I got all the DLC that gives more opportunities to build up points more. Plus I always save Jack's loyalty mission for basically the last thing I do before going to the derelict reaper. Most of the squad's loyalty missions involve them wanting to meet up with someone waiting for them or go somewhere to do something that's tied to an event happening on a schedule, but all Jack wanted to do was blow up an abandoned building, and that can wait for any old time.

    Does anyone know how the insanity difficulty is? I found that me2 difficulty was spot on. In me3 I went shotgun infiltrator instead of sniper without using med kits as it was too easy, might have been the lack of shields and armor on most enemies compared to me2's insanity that made it so much easier.

      Energy efficient Conor McGregor if people say the gameplay is bad theyre just a stupid hater. The story isnt like a compelling goldmine of rich literature. But its an adequately made game. Youve got too realize, bioware is husk of what they were, so the game isnt really stellar. But its not bad.

    Can someone please explain how we're traveling almost instantly to solar systems without mass effect relays? I thought that was the whole point of the relays. Because we can't do it on our own yet so quickly.

    • @kramroza1256
      @kramroza1256 7 лет назад +4

      WinteryRob Back in the Mass Effect Trilogy, you can already travel in between solar systems without Mass Relays. Mass relays were use to travel in between CLUSTERS. In Mass Effect Andromeda, the game is set within the Heleus Cluster alone. The Heleus Cluster has so many solar system to a point that it mimics the Galaxy map like in the past Mass Effect games hence the confusion. Back in the Mass Effect Trilogy, clusters usually have 4 maybe 5 solar system. Just keep in mind that you are technically in Heleus Cluster all the time so you don't need mass relays yet. The good question would be, how did the (spoiler alert) Kett travelled from cluster to cluster since the according to the lore, the Kett are actually all over the Andromeda Galaxy and not just present within the Helens Cluster.

    and yea heres a million sidequests because nobody else can do anything on their own. oh other then the strike teams, who apparently have their own ships so i send them off to do the same missions over and over on some random planet for some reason, then i get a briefing that says fail or success lol but none of that affects me directly really, shouldn't they be with me watching my back? Instead i have 2 squad mates with adhd who can't stop running and jumping all over the place even though im suppose to be a recon specialist.. They stay in cover for like 2 seconds then leap out into the frey just for something to do, talk about suicidal..

I don't care about animation quality too much. the amount of content in this game is crazy.when trying to gain the trust of the angarans you have the choice of going to voeld or to havarl, I went to voeld it was cool I liked it, but after I did everything on voeld I went and did havarl.... MAAAAAN I wish I had gone to havarl first because their are SOOOOO many containers and mineral crates just lying around!!!! and at a lower level these are very beneficial to your progression, I recommend goin to harvarl first then going to Voeld.

    I actually had to reduce the difficulty down to Normal as my NPC companions kept dying at the start of most combat encounters. Not only that, but my character is NOT specced to fight robots, and I died many times against the giant Destroyer robot inside the vault, and since you can't save there, I had to run through two rooms of enemies before it every time. I managed to get through it, but lowered the difficulty after I was done as I didn't want to go through that again.
    Normal is suddenly too easy now for most encounters, but I'll rather have it that way than have to deal with dead team mates and frustrating robot bosses.

    I, so far, love Mass Effect Andromeda. It is fun, challenging, and we get a female Turian companion (whom we can romance, like what!?!) The game has been getting a lot of flak for the animation, but honestly go back am deathly look at the other games! They weren't masterpieces either. But this series has become so phenomenal I can barely contain myself! It's just so good! I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to read the codex, I have learned so much from it. I love the mass effect lore. Anyways, all that to say, great game and I can't wait to play it over and over again.

  • @Relic_cileR
    @Relic_cileR 7 лет назад

    I went into this game with low expectations and a lot of doubt. Aside from the occasional animation glitch, everything else is great! The graphics are beautiful, the sound is phenomenal, and the gameplay, amazing.
    I even found myself liking the characters and story as I got to know them while the story unfolds. But both are subjective to the player. If you're going into Andromeda expecting the story and characters of the Trilogy, you're going in with the wrong expectations. This is a new cast with their own personalities and a new story. Instead of our galaxy being invaded by aliens, we are the aliens to another galaxy.
    I went into this with lows and it's been nothing but highs for me. And it's filled with a lot of depth and tons to do. I am loving this game.

      non-insanity is just plain boring. it feels like a shooter but without the masses of enemies that makes up for their individual frailty. yes, all bioware higher difficulties are just "hey, let's give all of these enemies like a bazillion HP", but still, more of a challange --> more satisfying to succeed.

    Thing I wished I knew - inventory is handled as a steaming pile of mess. No sorting, no equipping, and even thing you can't use during your mission takes space. I've seen people saying they spend about a third of their game time cleaning their inventory, and after playing the game, that is not an exaggeration. This was one main things they changed in ME2, and I 'll bet good money they'll change it right back for the next game... I mean, it has always the weaknesses of ME1 inventory, with none of the strength; yes to carrying multiple copies of the same weapon, no to having any room to carry it.

      Ddtzilla500 A Bioware developer said at PAX that Andromeda has twelve hub worlds. I pitied the man this morning for trying to bullshit the gaming community so close to reviewers getting their hands on it. It's actually four. That's all. If there's going to be twelve total, then fuck EA for hiding it in four full-priced DLCs.

    • @revpembroke3082

      Steve Hopkins So what if there are four worlds? 1) It's in a single star cluster, meaning there is going to be a low number of inhabitable worlds in the first place. We don't have an entire Galaxy as our playground this time. And 2) Quality over Quantity. Oh, and 3) Each of those worlds is bigger than their previous game, DA:I.

      Jared Masten Dude, I think you misunderstood me, I am such a fan of Mass Effect, I could really be happy with a game half the size of Inquisition. I was more pissed that the developer tried to say there was twelve.

    It seems witcher 3 not only ruined games prior ot it , but after it as well ... the stakes are really high for next rpg's

    For the Remnants puzzles, there's an easy way: having a brain ! If you've got one, they're easy....

    I'm only 4-5 hrsin but I already really like it and can't wait to play more. Especially since its a vastly more open game then before its like skyrim meets mass effect3

    can't decide on my starting difficulty... I'm quite seasoned with Mass Effect, usually 'hardcore' difficulty is a casual play-through for me. It's just intense enough to play without having huge problems, or distracting me from the narrative.
    but with the changes to Andromeda, I'm considering starting on normal, just to get used to it. my second run will be insanity.

      I played the trial on hardcore, it got hairy a few times (and I died once or twice), especially when you get ambushed after a cutscene or such. Otherwise, it felt like a good, meaty difficulty level. Then again, there weren't really any bosses in the trial, and I played Infiltrator. Upgraded to Black Widow quite early, difficulty was ok afterwards.
