Fishfind3000-Sorry friend, but you obviously know nothing about truly rural township government to try and say they are scamming for tax dollars. Most townships I dealt with were necessarily "hand-to-mouth" that are the purest for of government with taxpayers able to attend all meetings and the officers are not professional high dollar politicians or office holdefs but neighbors taking their turn stretching dollars they receive taxing themselves and neighbors to keep township roads safe and passable. The only professionals in most townships are road crew and maybe a mechanic if they aren't lucky enough to have a Wes nearby and the rest are citizens taking a turn, often with no pay or a small honorarium. That is the average township status here in the upper midwest (my experience in MN, WI and IA).

My daily life, friend. We have a fleet of 16 freightliner tandems with main & wing plows, and 4 of them with salt/sand spreader bodies... it is *constant* hydraulic line repairs, broken plow frames/push arms/edges, and radiator replacements, I kid you not. It would be an interesting experiment to take a brand-new, zero miles snowplough and put it to work, but maintain it to perfection. I'm talking about full oil-spray treatment underneath, clean the truck thoroughly after every day's work, regular servicing etc - the whole nine yards. I wonder just how long it would last?
There are guys out there who can keep their vehicles virtually rust-free, while living/working in the rust belt. The road salt doesn't help but proper maintenance would make a huge difference. I suppose guys with ploughs just have to balance the costs/time of maintenance against depreciation of their vehicles.

Back in my day we used to use plastic shovels to move snow....tell that to the kids now and they don’t believe you.

always such a pleasure when bring in plowtruck crusted in roadgrime, caked on salt with a loaded box of salt isnt it. municipal equip tends to be treated like rented equip - ran hard beat on put away wet butchered 'repairs'. stay warm Wes, keep up the good battle on those beat down trucks

Yes. Plus these trucks are handed down from larger government divisions. They are junk before they get them.

I loved the local snowhill you built and the way both your wife and son had a slide on it and the way your tractor and loader made short work of dealing with the drifts and lying snow.
That hydraulic plumbing was in a really poor shape but you managed to fix it for a while. The radiator though was something else - wrecked. No wonder there wasn't any cab heat with the speed it was loosing coolant! One wonders how the driver could even see out the windscreen to steer in such cold weather or even got the ice off in the first place before they started their run.

Wes one year I was having trouble with snow plow mounting bolts on our 1206. I ended up putting a hard SAE washer, the frame, the snow plow frame, hard SAE washers. I used a long enough bolt so that the whole shank came through the frame & the blade frame, then stacked up hard SAE washers so that I could tighten them. Before that, they were breaking at the root of the threads. None of the bolts have broken since I used long enough bolts where the shank was doing the work instead of the threads!
