      Honestly, I hope not. Perfectly rolled rare should be better than unique. Uniques should be build enabling items and not generally best in slot items like Lightning coil for example.

    Increasing the base defence stats to make them more interesting find, craft and use. While also reducing the reliance on defensive auras.
    Great move all-round by GGG.

      The issue is that you would still have to run the auras for their 50% more armor regardless. Going from 4k armor to like 6k without auras is nice (and this is at the topend) but the values after auras is going to be almost unchanged. This just nerfs player power pre-red maps without actualy giving anything in return. In addition to that, the insane stat requierements means that builds that go any defence outside of their 'intended' defence (like a ranger with ES and armor) will be massively nerfed since they cannot equip the new basetypes (lacking the almost 300 main stats required).

    Worth keeping in mind that might not even be the best new ES body armour since it uses the art for widowsilk robe, we might have a new tier of a vaal regalia as well.
    And they teased an increase in life values on gear as well, they showed a pair of boots with 121 life without a hybrid life mod.

      I doubt there will be. No reason for the regalia art to be the best. It just happens to be right now.

      @@TheModdedwarfare3 While that is true, the point is more I doubt they added just a single new armour of each type, otherwise it would have made more sense to use some new art instead.
      And the other reason I feel this might not be the best one is just that I have a feeling there might be one with a lvl80+ requirement.

      My theory is that these are item bases we ‘trade’ with the league mechanic and get these new bases from outside of wraeclast … maybe it uses the windowsilk design because we have to trade this to get the new nightweave base?

    The aura change coupled with the quality changes and hopefully core new basetypes turns them more towards specialization as opposed to generalist. If it pans out properly, this is a massive step in the right direction. While it won't immediately turn poe 1 away from aurastacking, it is a very good first step to diversify defense again in a way that doesnt radically break existing ideas and builds.

      there is also higher flat life rolls on the boots than previously possible, and lower ES on the sin trek than there should be!

    FINALLY!!!! Aura defenses have been so busted and implicit armor/evas/es on gear has been so crap for so long. I'm so glad they are adding a 4th tier of basetypes for mapping. This also completely upends the mirror market, LOL

    That sounds on par with their design philosophy. Not every char should pick the same thing because it's just to good to not use. Things are meant to be situational.
    With these changes determination is still really good for chars that actually use armour, but now not every other char uses determination and 1-2 flasks to have almost enough armour for endgame.

    You should compare it with the widowsilk robe not the vaal regalia. The tiering has always been voor each body type design, so we should get another even higher ES base armour

    Now I'm way more hopeful about melee, because they could add new higher level melee bases as a way to "carry" some of the ancestral totem damage values

    I think there will be more basetypes between the current highest one and the level 78 version.
    Also there is a possiblity that GGG has reworked all the defenses (armor, block, evasion, es, spell suppresion, etc..), resulting a lot of player deaths before the community figure out the next meta.

    Something funny is how high these attribute requirements will get. 254 Int is no joke. Fine for an Int starting character but will actually be a sizeable struggle for any non int character.

    Usually when I craft gear in SSF, it's spam essence/harvest for 2-3 good resists, then craft life if it didn't roll already. Maybe changing it so our gear has better defense values means crafting for high defenses, then filling resists another way would be more worth it.
    There are some nice Resists while using a Shield nodes I enjoy since they also give spell block, so maybe now I can focus on crafting high base defenses and have it be noticeable?

    I like the idea of better deffences on items rather than on auras. It just feels like I have to pick determination or lightning coil or both in so many cases and that is not healthy IMO.

    The one thing im hoping they do take from necropolis is making ilvl cull a certain amount of mods if ur crafting on ilvl 86, so that 50 or even 60% of the lowest mods cannot roll on these basetypes

    You may not have noticed the boots, but it did seem to roll a new tier of life. 121 life. Technically could be veiled hybrid life, but that would be a silly way to hide that it is there.

    what if, all base type have tier based on ilevel, and at the highest tier, they are all someone usable at end game.
    Ofc, they varies. For now, we have range value and stat requirements. But perhaps they could be more than just that.

    If we assume that there is new base types for ALL armour slots (not just body armour), The Apostate life stacking is gonna be SPICY. Especially given the +121 life roll on boots shown in the trailer

    Also they changed quality. its now 20% more Local defenses.
    means with that even if they nerf grace aswell, we probably will have the same amount of,if we max it on the body armour.

    They are coming full circle. I remember waaaaay back when they reduced ES bases and their modifier rolls, to balance the game. Now they get increased again haha

    Also just dropped a video saying that quality is now multiplicative, so 30% quality would be 30% MORE base defenses or attack instead of increased.

    What would be better is basing the defensive stat on item level, so you will ALWAYS want the highest item level for the base. And this would allow existing uniques to scale upwards.

      I would love to see a change in mod weightings at higher ilvls with a bias towards higher tier mods with higher ilvls.

    Top tier mirror items are getting gutted for standard.
    And the problem is, sure, rare crafted items with the new increased base defenses will offset the gutted auras, but unless unique items get that same buff, this is a massive nerf to unique items in the main defensive stat slots, or, in reality, a massive further push to make playerbase go for damage taken as to offset this.
    I don't think there's any point to run determination with how low the added flat values are, just run arctic armor for the 21% less phys and fire taken and immunity to freeze, and never move, run a movement skill instead.
    With the right searing exarch implicit you'd take 30% less fire or phys when stationary, just from a 25% aura, and with some shenanigans like +1 gems +2 aura gems with corrupted lvl 21 arctic armor, + lvl 4 empower you can push that a bit further.
    At this point I'm starting to think I'll finally give armor up in its entirety.

    So basically, a hard punish on builds that need to use uniques. Sort of buff to ES builds. I wonder if this applies to all armor types, including gloves, helmets, boots, and shields. If so, ES can get really nasty again.

    I am quite worried about these changes....tank and decencez became quite important in 2.24. There is a good reason why like 5 builds could really farm end game. Armour, spell suppression and regen is now 100% must and majority of builds need to be able to facetank a bit to be successful.......sooo if defence goes on base items, how are we to get enough spell supression? Or max res with the masteries etc? Determination and Grace combo was obvious for years for a reason. Put on top that th3 highest ES scaling is Ivory tower and now a base item.....Such big changes last years havw shown that the devs no longer play their own game since they focused on POE2

    Isn't pure ES without any armour or evasion pretty useless? Do any hardcore players here have expierience with that? It's just pure EHP without any mitigation.

    surely were getting that meaningful melee buff. surely...
    also these changes to aura nerfs with a bit of base gear buffs really sucks, getting gear which has the mods you want even at a mid level is already annoying and potentially quite expensive for a league start character, thats going to be even MORE expensive/annoying now. not a fan of the aura nerfs.

      @@beasthaven1571 a lot of the unique items were designed a long time ago and there has been power creep since then, so they are now comparatively very weak. The copium part is because ggg very rarely buffs these old items.

    This is effectively an indirect nerf to uniques right? If the base change and aura change evens out when both are used, then any time you use a unique instead you just lose out.

    unless they also reduce the resevation after nerving every defence aura... why even bother to use them anymore. they will still be good but now you need to actually care about armor and evason on your chest piece. so all uniques will be even shittier now. also the passive tree offers nothing for armor/ evasion on a big part of the tree and even if your in the right place most of the nodes suck ( only the hybrid nodes are kidna ok) good luck scaling armor on witch... . Back to 6 portal meta^^

    This doesn't really change much for anything but ES. Defensive auras will still be mandetory with their insane "more" multiplier. So we will just run the exact same auras as before. Shifting 1000 armor from an aura onto the gear just increases gear and stat pressure on those items. It just makes early game more difficult and that's it.

    remember the times where you could stack alot of es and have a good defense ?
    no max res
    no spell suppression
    no crazy armour / evasion
    no crit reduction
    no ally immunity
    i hate what the game has become now you need like 5 different things.

    I kinda hate GGG for doing this though. Werent they specifically nerfing ALL ES gear because amount of ES you get was too high? Now what they changed their minds after people reaching 200k ES? I swear their balance team is incohesive AF.

    As a primarily standard player, I'd actually be kinda salty if they just added a bunch of better bases, rather than buffing the current bases to offset the aura change/nerf. Would mean that any legacy gear would be nerfed and/or invalidated to some extent. Same for uniques, if they don't switch the base as mentioned at the end of the video.

      I would kinda laugh if it makes old base types trash. Compared to the new ones we get causing standard to have to re-make everything it would be very interesting. I highly doubt it would happen they might just buff every armor right not just specific ones.

      @@beasthaven1571 it's new base. THey certainly don't buff std vaal regalias to this. Yes, 30% more base armor/es means all previous armors are pretty useless, unless they didn't shine in other aspects too, like grasping mails.

    I understand why they are nerfing the auras, but they are doing it becasue of the armour stackers and aura stackers that are the most expensive builds to play anyways. And on top of that, this nerf doesnt hurt them too much, but it does hurt every other build in the game that uses either auras. Most builds cant even do/survive t17s and now they just nerfed everyones defenses across the board. So yeah, as usual, they nerf the early game but not the end game, because people who can afford to make armour stackers will still be immortal walking machines one tapping everything

    Not a big fan of the potential change. This will butcher Splitting Steel for my Champ.
    It's possible that overall it'll be comparable with an end-game set-up, but it will negatively impact League Start characters.
