Your open strings approach has made a complete difference in my playing! I feel it has all opened up and I feel freedom! I am so excited to try it on everything. Thank you so much!
Well thanks a bunch for this video, taking onboard your advice here has really helped me turn a corner with my improv and general playing. I’m now traversing the fretboard more, remembering my notes better and I also feel I’ve ‘unlocked’ the bass just a little further. As ever with this mysterious instrument, playing it will probably lapse back to an almost Sisyphean task tomorrow, but for now I can acknowledge some tangible progress. Thanks again.
I found it much easier playing in the middle position , especially on a gig , but I'm used to the bass guitar beforehand , but looking at the double bass tutorials in the day , they do emphasise playing near the nut , in first or half position , why I don't know , but thanks for the tutorial great lesson ..
Hi! Thank you. I am using Velvet Garbo (now discontinued) on the D and G, and Spiros on the E and A. Currently I use Zyex strings on all 4 strings, but the Garbo/Spiros are what I was using in this video.
Great question. There are 3 major scales without open strings, for those I do use an alternate “simpler” fingering. but obviously, the open strings make everything easier :)

So glad to hear that! It always makes my day when someone tells me that they can see progress because of one of these videos - that’s why I do this!!!
hey, just got you book and it's awesome. I think it would be amazing a lesson on how to switch positions. Thanks!
Hey Felix, thanks for your order! I will be sure to make a video about that :)

Thanks for the helpful video. What type of D & G string is on your bass? Thanks
I think they are the Aquila golden Spiral copy
Thanks for the great video, I'm a beginner. My ears are bad. Can I mark my fingerboard?
I always think marking your fingerboard is OK. Plenty of great bass players do that!
Do you have the same method for approaching keys with no open strings like Ab for example?

Have you been practicing au privave lately lol
