    I'm in a subtropical zone, and so cannot grow many of your plants, but the aesthetic of your arrangements are outstanding and gives me so many ideas!! Thank you for letting us see everything!

    How nice to see native plants incorporated into lovely your gardens - thanks to videos like this, I hope this trend can grow (pun intended 😂) - as folks realize their beauty and wildlife value

    Hi Kevin, thanks for this timely video. I had an absolutely dismal year for the more common pollinator plants. I need to look into more native plants. 👍

    Always wonderful videos, especially appreciated by us cold zoners! Kevin, if you want a real beauty of a culver's root, look for the variety 'Erica', it has awesome narrow thick rugose foliage that comes out red upon new growth, really a very handsome thing, pink flowers to boot, it's more of a refined grower and looks good in clumps of three or more, a gem to plant all over the place! I love the Joe Pye weeds as well, indeed some grow very large and at times I've even have needed to remove them from particular locations due to their exuberance! A very recent introduction is 'Ruby', it truly is much more compact, some of them are just to about my hip height and others in moister soil are larger, though again not nearly as big as 'Little Joe' or even 'Baby Joe'.

      Nice! Thanks for the recommendations. That’s been one of the great things about RUclips so far; hearing about new plant varieties to grow.

    Thank you for this video, very interesting. Love the liatris plant, sadly so did the deers. Ate my liatris to the ground.

    I love your use of stones and gravel in the landscape. Do you lay the gravel on bare dirt or do you use a weed barrier fabric underneath?

      I lay the rock on bare soil. The first year or two, I see more weeds than you would by using poly or fabric. But after that, it’s pretty easy to keep them weed free. Less expensive and better for the plants long term.

    Check out persicaria polymorpha (giant fleeceflower) if you like tall and big.

      What a coincidence. Just a day ago I visited a sister of mine and noticed that very plant. I had not seen one in many years. It looked great!

    Actually, the redbeckia and coneflower are in the same genus asteracea.(daisy family)

    • @gardenhike
      @gardenhike  4 месяца назад

      Yes, they are in the same family, Astereacea. Rudbeckia and Echinacea are two separate genus, that are in that family.

    I had to stake that Rudbeckia and it is in full sun. I’m impressed that you didn’t. How did you do it?

      Just lucky for my first year. I’m sure the days are coming I’ll be staking too.
