      Why? Industry wants to sell you Prozac first. Then, after your sex drive drops to zero - they can also sell you Bupropion or another extra drug, until your monthly bill is half a thousand. They aren't interesting in curing sickness.
      Just look up how op io id pandemic started from collusion between big P and medical practioners. Many of them deceived patients into believing that these novel substances are nothing like Morf or Hero and won't produce dependence.
      The reality is, a lot of op io ids not only cause addiction and tolerance, but they can also destroy your brain thru UPR (Unfolded Protein Response). Industry either didn't care enough to study side effects or downplayed them. It was completely evil.

    I have suffered from depression for 10 years here is my personal experience with it. causes: lack of fresh air, prolonged exposure to computer or electronics, processed foods, alcohol, weed, porn, sugary food, all bread, pasta and carbfoods, soda, too much caffeine, sleeping with the lights on, muscle or joint pain, hay fever, - > negative thinking, fear, anxiety, denial, trauma, environmental factors like extreme heat, cold, unstable blood sugars, lack of regularly meals, lack of social interactions, lack of connection, lack of purpose. Its not as easy to pinpoint which one it is when it first comes. But here are the remedies (recommend to do It BE4 it comes). Mindfulness meditation, carnivore or plant based diet, moderate alcohol and caffeine intake, regular exercise, 30 min walks outside for sunlight, start a hobby doesnt matter what it is, adopt some responsibilities (dog, kids, whatever), journal daily what works and what doesnt work, log your food and sleep intake and the effects it has on you, shower every day and get dressed even if u dont feel like it. Accept that life isn't beautiful, despite everyone saying so. Its a huge lie. Doesnt mean its all hell, but be more nuanced about it so u dont feel extra worse when depressed and it seems everyone else is doing aces. Have a good day

    I'm sitting here in tears as I watch this video. This makes so much sense. I live with chronic pain and CFS/ME. Inflammation is a huge part of my physical issues. So much of the mental health medication I've taken over the years just haven't done anything and this really explains it. I love your channel, thank you.

    I’ve been telling people for years now to get blood work done if they’re depressed. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism around 20 years ago. Dealt with depression and anxiety along with but mostly manageable.
    Around 2013, it became severe and so did the depression. I was completely numb and had zero motivation. Two years later, I was finally treated with radioactive iodine. Within days, my mood lifted massively. I still deal with multiple autoimmune disorders (hypothyroidism is an also autoimmune disorder) but my life has greatly improved since then. Sadly, when I do bring the subject up, I get little or no response.
    Other issues which can contribute to depression are anemia and vitamin deficiencies. There’s more but I can’t remember off the top of my head.

    Chronic inflammation and stress upregulate tryptophan degradation in the liver, making less available to the brain for serotonin synthesis. Hormonal differences between men and women also result in increased tryptophan degradation in the liver, which in turn increases their incidence of mental health related issues. Perhaps you could cover these topics?

    Emma this is potentially revolutionary. I've been depressed since I was 14 with virtually no respite. I've always had low levels of inflammation in my body and recently I've been tested for an autoimmune disorder. I noticed that when I took anti-inflammatory pain killers I felt a little better mentally - I always took them for physical pain. I've also noticed that being on a ketogenic diet has always had a big impact on depression. I went on Atkins diet in my twenties to lose weight and within a couple of weeks I realised that I felt significantly better mentally. Keto diets are known for reducing inflammation. On the other hand alcohol that increases inflammation is also a know depressant. And anxiety often goes with depression which is pretty much like stress so it all makes sense

      Keto has helped a lot of folks with anxiety and chronic pain syndromes too. It's all that's helped my fibromyalgia

      There are specialized anti-inflammatory diets. I bought a special magazine about it, written by Martin Kreutzer and Simon Weisdorf. I found it helpful.

      I have dealt with severe anxiety and depression for a couple of years now and I also noticed that when I take anti-inflammatory medication I have felt a lot better.

      most importantly, eat NO gluten! One of the reasons keto diets work well is that they are gluten-free. But keto is difficult to maintain (and often especially as a woman it can mess up your hormones). You can maintain your results (re mood) if you stay off gluten.

    So happy to see this information here!I've been dealing with mental health issues for more than 10 years. And then I grabbed that book "Potatoes,not prozac" accidentally in the library. The ideas are pretty close to the ones in this video, and wish more people knew that. This information was a life saver to me, it definitely can help to many people!

    Thank you, for all your work. I have had psoriasis for 16 years now. When I am stressed it gets extremely worse and it seems I become depressed as a result. The past 2 years of my life have been highly traumatic and I am becoming more depressed. I will be more aware that it could be inflammatory response. You are a beautiful blessing. Thanks again!

    Interesting info! I’ve started having depression after giving birth 32 years ago!! I’m now on top of things however now I have Fybromyalgia and severe arthritis!! I’m starting to get really depressed. Drs don’t care. I’m on my own in finding solutions to help myself. It’s a bad way to live. This is a great channel thanks 🦋

    I'm so glad to see this concept entering into the conversation about depression. Other things that might help reduce inflammation: time restricted eating (6-8 hour eating window per day) and trying to eliminate sugar and grains from the diet to see if it helps.

      In my case, nothing inflammation related helped. Vegetarian or vegan diet, fish oil, no dairy, no gluten, I think i tried almost all. Nothing made a difference for me. In my opinion it’s 99% your thoughts and patterns. Diet can help if it’s really bad, but if it’s already decent I think you should invest your energy otherwise.

      @@tobik2627 it also depends on why you have inflammation i was born with certain disorders that make me more likely to have inflammation and i do what i can and it's improved some but it's something i will always struggle with i hope you find the things that can help you the most it can be such a hard thing to struggle with

      @@tobik2627 Might sound a bit silly or redundant... BUT I'm just going to mention the easy, most obvious suggestion off the top of my head... NSAID's...
      In our current atmosphere about natural remedies, taking on your own diet, and avoiding obnoxious chemicals or excessive drugs... A LOT of people don't bother thinking of or trying the obvious answers first. Obviously talk with your doctor or other healthcare pro' of choice to TRY for the best suggestion on the list, but at least in a short term "relief experiment", why not take the obvious "Non-Steroidal ANTI-INFLAMMATORY Drug"??? Even just a couple aspirin or a motrin, whatever???
      Worst, after a 3 day attempt, you get limited or no relief at all because (apparently) inflammation is NOT the key to YOUR situation... Best case, you DO see improvement, and get a "tool for your bag" to use when depression from inflammation IS at or beyond your tolerance limits... It's not meant for long terms, though there ARE still people even in the medical profession that prescribe an aspirin regimen... Maybe then (with evidence) the talk with your doc' can be productive about it. ;o)

      @ Catherine Slavin - the trouble with time restricted eating (and I should know, I did nearly 2 years of alternate day fasting) is that it causes overeating and long term weight gain (even if there is a short term weight loss).
      Overeating is not good for the digestion, and going to bed hungry can make it difficult to sleep and creates anxiety.
      Far better to listen to our bodies - eat moderately when hungry, always stop eating before we are over full, and use mindfulness to consciously enjoy our food.

    This is so helpful Emma. I suffer from seasonal allergies and the increased levels of cytokines and histamine in my system, although only constituting low-level inflammation, cause me to feel very down. I start to have intrusive thoughts about past problems and experience a lot of negative self-talk and depressed feelings. I've come to recognize this as part of the hay fever symptoms and take a quercetine supplement to stabilize the mast cells which secrete these inflammatory mediators. OTC antihistamine medication also really helps to lift my mood.

      Which OTC treatment do you use? I’ve developed seasonal allergies in the past few years and haven’t taken anything-may be worth a try to see if it affects my low mood.

    Avoiding sugar is good too because sugar can trigger inflammation in the body. When you are depressed, its easy to turn to candy to comfort yourself, but if you want to beat the depression long term, you should try to stop the candy.

    CRP means C-reactive protein, folks. Your doctor can order this test.

      Yes! Thank you for clarifying. My brother who is a doctor says that most doctors wouldn't normally order that test for mood issues, but I do think that if you find the right doctor who is willing to consider the interplay of mood/biology they would be willing to explore CRP levels and chronic inflammation as part of the puzzle

    My lips have been in hives for 10 months due to unmanageable stress. Thank you for these videos. They have helped more than the 4 doctors, 1 allergist, and 2 dermatologists I've seen. They literally tried every medical approach and determined it has to be stress. These videos are saving me.

    Thank you. I have suffered from a low grade depressions most of my life (my psychiatrist gives it the offical name of persistent depressive disorder,). I have never bought into the serotin model of depression as I have seen far too many friends take classic antidepressant meds for years without improvement. I find that when I consistenty work on a healthy diet, exericse, meditation and other natural remedies to reduce anxiety, I simply feel so much better., mentally and physically. I appreciate you bringning this new research to public attendion.

    I appreciated this. I've been getting random bouts of inflammation in my joints in addition to feeling very low. I've faced some recent trauma which, looking back, saw an almost immediate bout of inflammation.

    Yes it does. If I eat junk food, bread, rice, and pasta, I feel depressed, no energy, joint pain is awful. But after I started keto, my depression went away, I was energized, and ready to face each day🥰I slacked off, and now I’m going to get back on track to feel better.

    I have always found one of the most frustrating things about depression, is trying to pinpoint the cause. I have learned that there can be numerous and varied causes, I really had never thought about the inflammation itself as lending to the cause, but it definitely makes sense. I always try to take note of my moods and different things that I feel can trigger depression or anxiety, and I definitely can attest that when I feel depleted or overwhelmed physically, that it can drag me straight down quickly ! I have noticed that taking things for inflammation and pain, does give a positive quick reboot. I am not a big fan of taking medications if I can help it, so I'm trying a lot of natural remedies and supplements and have found that to be the best defense, as well as doing whatever possible to try to manage stress triggers.     I have ME/CFS. A very low mood and teariness is one of my first symptoms of an impending crash. I've put it down to brain inflammation for a while now, so this make sense!

      ME/CFS and fibromyalgia are not well understood, but the misery that they bring can lead to depression. With increased cases of long covid, we may learn more about these conditions. Let’s hope.

      Darling, you might want to look up ‘hyperinsulinemia’. Maybe check one of Dr.Berg’s videos on the topic because your symptoms sound a little similar IMO.

    If you haven’t already look into curcumin for low mood/depression. Excellent studies out there. Make sure it has black pepper and it is a BCM-95 formula. You can take 500 to 1000 mg of curcumin twice daily. Take it with food and make sure you’re taking it with some oil like olive oil, or fish oil for better absorption. Do your own Research. If you already taking a depressant, I’ve heard great things to take curcumin along with it. Thanks for the video!

    finally someone shedding some lights! I've noticed this many years ago, it happens to me everytime I take anti inflammatory drugs (for neck pain, menstrual cycle, other joints pains). I feel totally different, lighter, happier.

    I was diagnosed with Crohn’s in my 20’s. Because I had a history of depression, a lot of the pain and weight loss I went through was written off as depressive symptoms, and it took being hospitalized to finally start getting treatment.
    I’ve also struggled with being told I “gave [myself] Crohn’s by being stressed out all the time”, especially since I have no family history of it and am fairly young.

    Foods we eat play a HUGE part in inflammation!! Eat whole foods and reduce/remove sugar and simple carbohydrates. ✌🏼 Great video!!!

    There are a couple of great things that are happening now with depressive disorders. Microdosing, magnet therapy, inflammation
    Now, we are finally getting some great ideas . We just had to wait 40 years for it.

    Very interesting! About a year ago, my Dr put me on Celebrex for the rheumatoid arthritis symptoms I was displaying (mostly my joints swelling) but I gradually stopped having as many migraines and also felt less depression & anxiety symptoms. I can see how everything you described here aligns with my experience.

    Please allow me to testify how diet can affect mental health. I've lost 70 lbs, and one of my chief complaints was untreatable sleep disturbance, but on this new diet, I wake up every morning with the dawn, and I sleep restfully every night around the same time!
    Not only that, but the brain fog which I attributed to my medications was actually brought on by junk food, processed food, and comfort food!
    While eating fresh fruits, vegetables, grass-fed meats and other wholesome foods, I feel sharp as a tack, and happy as a clam!

    When I tried the keto diet which is known for being great for inflammation. I noticed my mental health and clarity was at its best.

    This may be why omega 3s and vitamin D and an anti-inflammatory diet helps relieve symptoms of depression. Turmeric too.

      @@benjamindover4337 cut all refined sugars from bread to pasta and cakes and sweets, cut tomatoes. Get Turmeric with an hint of black pepper, and Bromeline from the core of fresh pineapple

    Dr Russell Blaylock talks about this all the time. During illness the cytokine storm not only effects your body with cough, fever etc but it inflames the brain also.

    Āyurveda has pointed to this for thousands of years. What is called Āma in Āyurveda can be understood as inflammation. What happens to our body directly affects the mind. The food we eat also directly impacts mood and mental states. Eat whole natural foods, eat less, don’t snack, give your digestion a rest by having an early light dinner and wait 14-18 hours before eating again (you will sleep better too!) 🙏🏻

    So basically, i was thinking what makes my mood go down from being really up everytime it happen. I am pretty creative and i dont really have boundaries when it comes to theories. I ve seen your videos and i liked them since you are really putting yourself into it, havent seen you for a year tho, since im doing extraordinarily fine. I had inflammation since like 3 years and i had many theories why i get down, not really depressed, but worse than before, and i ofter get intrusive thought which i control to not get out of hand but cant stop, i get really slow in thinking, my actions are slower, mood, will, everything worse, but like i said i know my self so im making it much better as it should be. So to get to the point, i reduced all my thoeries to- EITHER i have stress or create stress or am depressed for unknown reason (disorder?) and that stress makes my behind of the head inflammed, which makes more stress since now i cant do my things as fast so i should have problems in the future and if my boss sees it maybe i lose job etc. etc. so more stress anxiety leading to worse (at this point chronic) inflamations leading to more stress... OR! i got sick or maybe i have allergy or allergic reaction or im in burnout which made my back of the head inflammed and my body is trying to tell me something is generally wrong and the only way to do that is cortisol release, (since its not arm, if it was, then my arm would hurt, or my ear, then my ear would hurt, its something not specific in my body, like when people have cancer for example, body cant specify what it is and the only way to make us aware that something isnt right is the cortisol release, but i think you get the point, you know more than i do) which makes me out of reason unknown to me nervous, without apetite, cant sleep good, have no drive when i stay up, low libido, which makes me my inflammations chronical, which makes me feel even worse and so on and on... the same circle of hell like the other one.
    And i was asking my self the question "what came first, the chicken or the egg?" this video kinda gave me the answer, its the inflammation, example, if its stress, i go through it, it should be gone, if its fear the same. But if its chronic inflammation, even if i do the thing thats making me anxious and finish it for good, ill feel good for a small amount of time, in which my brain has rewarded me with seratonin for finishing a task, and that seratonin will mask my inflammtion pain for a bit, but after it ill still feel it, get down, feel anxious, stressed (since i have to do with my everday thing with constant pain which is a burden) nervous (since my body releases cortisol a respond to a constant pain swelling "something wrong" in me).
    Thanks for confirming something i was theorising for a long while, could never be sure since im not the expert, but you basically mentioned every aspect i was thinking of in a way i was thinking before i even knew your opinion and standpoints.

    Very helpful video. I have HS for many years, but I am managing it. I learnt to live with it, and in general am in remission a few years now but the past 3 months I'm not. It isn't that am in pain or it changes my everyday life so much but recently I was wondering why I feel down and more sad and disappointed. Now with your video I think that maybe it has to do with the constantly inflammation I experience these few months.Thank you! I'll discuss it with my therapist!

    I took my first ice bath yesterday. The difference in my state of mind before and after was amazing. I've just been kind of depressed for quite a long while. And so it was impressive to me how immediate my mental state went from that, to how it used to be long ago. It was almost like a forgotten memory.
    Anxiety and stress do seem to be a big part of an inflamed and sore body. I recommend trying an ice bath if you never have. I listened to a podcast on dolphins and it helped me ease into the cold water thinking about them and their habitat. I also recommend that you do it outdoors, connecting with nature seemed to really put me at ease.
    I bought a Japanese tub from amazon just for ice baths. It was 60 dollars and it's great quality. Easily holds a 220 pound 6'2 person, and I got a cover for it so I can conserve water as I plan on doing as many baths as I can.

    Thank you for your channel. I have energy cycles... spring tends to be more placid and I don't start anything much. July signals a much busier time and I feel anxious about the shift... I choose to do stuff that I have postponed because I just didn't want to do them. It would have to be done sometime later this year, anyway. In the short term, it helps... all that matters.

    That would explain why a lot of people's mood improves when they change their diet; their bodies are intollerant and sensitive to certain foods and/or additives that causes inflamation within the body.

    I noticed my moods being very down today and remembered that i had a cold and this tends to happen. I went to make a ginger lemon shake (whole lemon and a big chunk of ginger with apple juice and some ice) and the relief was almost instant. My nose stopped running and my moods returned to normal.

    You know I didn't think about it until now, but maybe that's why I intuitively coped with NSAIDs frequently before I identified my depression from chronic stress and burnout.
    I remember my body was absolutely screaming at me with every symptom possible before I was able to ask for help.

    This actually explains a lot! I've had a stressful week and yesterday I felt depressed and foggy and unmotivated. Usually I fight through that but this time I didn't and today I feel a bit better mentally but my body hurts. I've been wondering if I've had inflammation go on for a while but I figured it had more to do with what I eat than stress but I've also been doing trauma work for a few years. Between stress and an imperfect diet and being overwheight it's possible that my body is just constantly inflamed and that's why I often feel extremely stiff and worn out.

    This always made sense to me as someone with a severe nickel allergy that at one point affected my life severely as I'm a musician. Less inflammation = more ability to focus, and feel relief. It makes sense this would be the same for the brain, and from what we consume, etc. I've found CBD/Ashwagandha/anti-histamine to be great for fighting inflammation, with a decent diet.

    Anti-inflammatory diet and adequate amounts of omega 3 fatty acids, add some exercise.
    Follow the Zone Diet.
    Any Disease state, call it what you will, is Inflammation.

    I hafta say, ditching most carbs made my arthritis & gout dissappear, but has also had a massive positive impact upon my mood, depression largely gone, anxiety likewise. I still think certain things are terrible, but I am resilient & unaffected functiinally.

    I work on the idea that 'depression' is just a symptom like 'headache'. It's interesting that, for some people, the anti-inflammatory effect of a ketogenic diet helps ameliorate their depression a lot. Keto also seems to benefit some people with anxiety and a bunch of other mental health challenges.

    This rings true just based on my own experiences. This year while changing my medication (Mertazapine) I've been getting symptoms similar to IBD. My C reactive protein count was slightly high and a stool sample found high lactoferrin, but biopsies show no sign of abnormalities. After coming off of that medication the symptoms began to subside. That stress-sickness cycle is real for sure.

    I have a lot of stomach issues that come genetically. My dad has the same ones and he suffers from depression and he gets night terrors. Well had night terrors until he found out the reason why, because of his digestion issues. He takes medicine and it almost got rid of the night terrors. He doesn’t get them a lot anymore, he may have had like 3 in the 15 year span of my life but before he got them a lot and would punch the wall (there are some patched up holes in my house walls from him waking up with them. That’s how awful they were. I’m glad he’s doing better) and I was close to having one, I woke up sweating and in an anxiety attack because it was like I was inside a horror movie. I woke up and had a hell of a stomach ache and after I used the bathroom, the stress went away. And having these stomach problems causes me to get anxiety attacks sometimes and they only go away if I use the bathroom. It’s really strange. Does this count as inflammation? This kind of opens a door to me and maybe I should talk to my therapist about it
