What happened was the Government attacked the Italian Mafia. The Democrats use of weaponized drugs chased the European communities out. The City elected Liberal Corrupt Politicians, corrupt School Board, Charities were even corrupt. With Liberals in charge they called on the USA for Hand Outs for a New Detroit Renaissance. The unions were taken over shortly after, Hoffa was the final blow to kill Detroit. It's been about begging the USA for help and pocketing the resources provided every since. It will never be a good place while these "Progressive" Politicians and Media. Run the Narrative of Oppression and Race Hate in 2018 it's not OK to be white? Remember when ever you point a finger four point back at you Democrat Socialist.

Used to own a bar. City insisted on my renting their container for $50. Tried to give the officer the $50 on the spot. He insisted I had to make and appointment, go to the Wyoming yard, bring a cashier's check, and set up a payment plan. really....can't take money, but need me to be inconvenienced to come jump through hurdles to PAY the city money. Bye Detroit!

What incredible incompetence on the side of the former mayor, city and police. INCREDIBLE INCOMPETENCE! Small and medium businesses are America's bread and butter. Large corporations contribute very little to society and take quite a bit with their tax evading ways. The economic boom of the 1990s was due to the growth of small and medium businesses. Entrepreneurial and social freedom as in a FREE MARKET is the ONLY way Detroit is going to recover, ESPECIALLY in these times!

They're NOT just "messin' with the black communities". My sister owns a business 50 miles North of Detroit. A family member/employee parked her car in front of their shop with an 'For Sale' sign in the vehicle window. She was ticketed for having an 'Advertisement' sign within '';'50 ft of the street. With THAT kind of law she wouldn't even be able to park her car with 'BEHIND' the Building In The Alley! Guess they'll have to warn their customers about 'For Sale' signs in their cars also!

The last time I was in Detroit was in the mid 80's and I felt lucky to leave unscathed. If Detroit is serious about taking down the bad guys then it needs to look at it's city leaders, union bosses and middle and upper level management in all city departments.

It was after the riots that Detroit became a ravaged community, and remained so for decades thereafter, as businesses withdrew, taking jobs and taxes with them. But here, as elsewhere, an idea that fit the vision did not have to meet the additional requirement of fitting the facts.

Yeah, but that's the thing. In a healthy free market other businesses would have come in to fill the void to take advantage of the available labor and real estate. However, as this video clearly shows, the regulations are so onerousness that most don't even bother and those that do get shut down. I mean, would you try to start a business in Detroit when faced with the prospect of having it completely destroyed by the government for an arbitrary reason?

Over regulation is choking the American Dream. Not just in Detroit, but across this great land. Sometimes it feels like a real conspiracy to keep the little guy down and it crosses all racial and ethnic lines. In my estimation it is criminaly stupid. If government really worked as it should, it would clear the way for everyone to better themselves and increase the number of happy, successful people paying a smaller individual tax. The volume would more than balance the bottom line.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded - here and there, now and then - are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck.
