DIY Center Speaker, 2 Way Crossover Build and 4 Speaker Wiring

- A quick video on how to build a home theater center channel speaker. Can be converted as a soundbar too! By just a few wire re-arrangements and you've got a DIY soundbar!
2-way first-order crossover build having a 4300-4400Hz crossover frequency. Consisting only one inductor coil, and a couple of 50V 2.2uF capacitors.
Also shows an schematic diagram on how to wire 4 pieces speakers wired in series and parallel combination to achieve matching impedance.
The demo video featuring Anup Sastry, one of my favorite drummers in the world!
COMPONENTS USED:
- 4 pieces 4" 8 Ohm 20W generic woofer speakers
- 1 piece 8 Ohm Yamaha clone square tweeter
- 1/2" and 3/4" marine plywood
- spar varnish

Very helpful, am building my own floor standing speakers, with 4 (6 1/2) bas/midle tone speakers.

for some reason i was only thinking 2 midbass desing :D
Or should i just put 2 midbass in series and let the added cone area add + 3 db? And -3db from the increased impendance ? Or are my calculations wrong?

Those drivers look very very similar to Visaton FRS8 drivers. For better off axis response I'd recommend a horizontally curved front baffle and putting the tweeter up higher then the mid drivers. This should reduce the beaming effect you get from the current design.

In diagram you have in video. Green line (wire) connect with speaker's +terminal on left side but on the right side same wire is connected with - terminal of speakers. I dont get understand?

I don't need to know how to use power tools or build a box. I need to know how to wire up a diy bass guitar cabinet with a horn and crossover to push air at 4Ω
Imma go out on a limb here and assume that the size and power and impedance is somewhat irrelevant as long as your target impedance can be met by the wiring. This is basically the same as if I were to build a 4x10 with horn and crossover for a bass guitar cabinet 4Ω at the point of power. Right?

It probably sounds just fine, but I never liked those plastic tweeters. I like metallic domes the most, but they can be a bit expensive. These are okay if you are on a budget. The mid-woofers actually look good.

Hello Nandu. Sorry for the limited information about this project. Just use crossover calculators when you build your projects.
Is it on a center channel on the receiver or a left/right? I know it a center sound bar I built on similar but have it 2on left and 2on right no center tweeter just 4- 6 1/2" coaxial speakers on a L/R 2 channel amp great job though 👍
Thanks Jonathan. This speaker can be re-wired for a left and right configuration but the tweeter can be only on left or right. You can build something similar and install two tweeters for a more flexible speaker feature.

That’s a really high crossover point
It all depends, I wouldn't say it's high at all considering the drivers. Small midrange or fullrange speakers can play well over the crossover seen here and small tweeters can't play very low.

This wiring will reverse the polarity on 2nd orders.

Any passive speakers should have "passive" components like the crossovers. Can't control passive components so they must be fitted on their own components.

Get drok speakers, they are better... put the bass port where the Tweeter is... put the Tweeter on top or below it, if that makes sense. But either way have the bass port facing with it ( gives a little extra thump). and use MDF next time.

Yes you need subwoofer to add bass.
That configuration has to be a 2 1/2 or 3 way. It can't be a 2 way. It will sound much better!

Hello Surendra, you need to purchase a Bluetooth/digital module and connect it to your amplifier. There are many of amplifiers that already has Bluetooth and digital input/output. I hope you can find them.

Hello Horace. It is just a common 3" woofer. Mostly available in that shape. The circle ones are bit expensive.

Sir how much apply volt in this divise
4400hz has a wavelenght of 7.8cm or roughly 3.1". Considering your drivers are 3" in diameter and also spaced out a bit there is no way they are within 1 wavelenght center to center at the crossover frequency. This will cause intermodulation isseus with peaks and nulls as you move around. You need to cross overa lot lower for this and most likely second order unless your tweeter has a very low self resonant frequency (like below 1k at minimum). I also doubt bass reflex does much good with 4 drivers in that box. What frequency did you tune for? Might be better of closed, and braced. Also 4 horizontal drivers create a line array which will cause beaming and a narrow sweetspot with your tweeter beaming in the middle. You can improve this with a series lowpass over the 2 outside driver (I'd suggest first order at 300hz,all you need is 2 caps) Whenever possible install the tweeter above the center of the other speakers in a center channel. This will give you a much better high frequency dispersion. Good luck 😉

Don't judge a book by its cover. You saw how each component of the crossover was measured using LCR multimeter.
