I usually grab power from either the factory radio or the ignition. You need to find a positive power source that will turn off and on with the ignition.
You'll have to purchase a tuner that can interact with you're new head unit. I've done installs placing the new antenna into a similar housing and I've done ones where we adapted into the factory wiring for the antenna and used the factory antenna.
Some times I use the provided mounting hardware, Other times I make custom brackets, really depends on the application.
I have installed two antennas now. Both times I placed them in the back window of the car with a small bit of double sided tape on the flat and they work fine. I ran the wire under the floor mat to a area near the power plug.
Most install shops like mine would carry it, or you can get them to order it.
Not sure the exact part number. We purchased ours from an automotive parts store.
If you turn off your satellite radio unit or unplug it you should get good local radio reception again.
You should see it when we make the custom mount and make the units "float" like in those pics ;)
Yup, your local install shop can install it for you professionally.
Thank you!
Did you try putting it on the hood? The area closer to the windshield.
I was under the impression you could buy a Sirius/XM device similar to an actual radio with an antenna, and move it around the house. But this video shows it's way more elaborate than I thought. Makes me wonder if there's technicians you can call to either come out and hook it up or guide a customer through over the phone conversations. I don't really wanna hook Sirius/XM to a computer but I guess I can if that's my only option. You see I had this idea (probably crazy idea) to hook up a Sirius/XM device like a stereo system with speakers 'cuz that's how I like to rock, but I don't think my idea will work and is probably considered outdated. Seems like there's too many factors involved to make this a realistic option. I guess I just assumed you'd be able to buy a Sirius/XM device, and speakers would be sold separately. I have been listening to Sirius/XM through Dish Network so knowledge there's an alternate way to listen to Sirius/XM besides the car or Dish is brand new to me.
+surething baby I think there are still docks available for SIriusXM for home use. Did you check their web site?
+AnthonyJ350 I checked their site after watching your video. Yeah there is something available, thanks! I don't like the idea of using 8 C batteries though. Then again a 14v adapter might be a good alternative.
I wish I could pay this guy to install my car audio system. He knows what he's doing!
I'm probably buying this as a gift for someone. What if they can't install it? Can we take it somewhere to get installed or is this not an option? Please reply!
wow~ what if my car stock audio system had satalite, but you upgraded to a headunit that doesnt have satalite...I already have that shark fin on roof, any way to get a portableXM radio and tap into the existing satalite antenna??
What was the one thing that attaches to the Attena so we dont have to keep changing stations again??
would like to know so I can get mine and my daughters installed
I can accept the compressed sound quality not being the best, because I can lower the volume to a happy medium.
But the low quality tone gets amplified with Sirius XM self serving commercial bursts. Annoying sound effects shatters the calm.
I'm already a payed party member. It's like after paying for a hotel room on the 4th floor, there are never ending blasting ads for their 3rd floor.
The XM self serving ads are not like Tide Soap.
The XM commercial tones are intense, stressful shouting.
FM direct module
Where did you hook the power to? Best Buy mobile install gave me the 12 volt female lighter adapter. Are there terminals in the fuse box or do you go to the battery?
AnthonyJ350 can you please tell me whats the name of that device you used in minute 3:39 ,I will be grateful to you.
Nor Nijim It's called a Power Probe.
Thanks :)
Do we know if the lead from the Ant is a Coax or discreet wires?
Hey Just wondering where you got the modular piece to filter out the local stations, I currently have it installed without and am constantly fighting local stations. Thx for your help.
Great tips about the 5 v power knockdown for the radio & needing to use the supplied plug but I am still confused on the soldering to plug? If I hardwired into male plug end & plugged in female plug that would work
You can buy female power sockets with pigtail wiring. I find it comes apart over time, that's why I solder direct.
Ok thanks for clarification
Anthony I bought my 2006 Scion Xbox used before I was married. It has a button on the radio controls for sirius but it's not a sirius radio. It's factory if I'm correct with am/fm cd.
I have called the Sirius themselves and my vehicle was never registered as having the service. I was told that I need a Sirius Radio which is fine but I'm somewhat stuck on which one to purchase.
this vehicle is the one my husband drive back and forth 2 hours a day and this will be his birthday gift. He purchased a 2012 Equinox with it already installed.
While he drives my less than comfortable Mouse (it Squeaked at 1 point ) and misses his Fantasy Channels I drive Red in comfort.
could you help me please?
+Susan vadnais You can try talking to a Scion dealership. But most of them won't know what to add to make it work with your car even though it has the button. What I do is just change the head unit and add a new satellite radio tuner and it will just work. Or you can add the stand alone tuner and play it through the radio or aux (if your stock head unit has it). Just depends how clean and how good of sound quality you want.
Thanks for the vid! Do you use custom brackets or do you just use the mount?
Sirius Tea Party Patriots by Kevin Midnight
Thanks to David Webb, Mark Levin, Andrew Wilkow, Mike Church of Sirius Patriot Channel 125 for keeping up the fight. Music copyright 2013.
ALSO what wa sthe thing you put on top of the car to not allow the dirt be all under the Attena?
Personally I got a CB Radio already with the antenna on the trunk, why not just put the antenna on the trunk and run it in from the trunk? As long as you aren't using your trunk 24/7 it shouldn't be a problem really with the wire being pinched. Seems for a more pain free installation to me
You can mount the antenna anywhere outside as long as it's on a relatively flat surface. I've done a few installs where I put them on the trunk or the rear of the roof. Typically I put it on the front center area of the roof because I don't ever worry about the wire being pinched. I provide lifetime warranty on my workmanship.
What are all the extra parts I need to install in a 2004 Tahoe? Other then what comes in the box
I recently bought a 2015 Honda Civic EX-L w/out Navigation. No XMradio ready radio. Want XM Sirus Radio without an external radio & bundle of wires. Do you have a video how to do so? GSR2025 seems to be the only way. No video on this install either. Please help; needing ideas & directions. thanks Ron!
Ron Wilmot Have you considered an after market head unit with the SiriusXM tuner? www.visions.ca/Catalogue/Category/Details.aspx?categoryId=11&productId=21969&sku=CDESXM145BT
It's a plastic film from 3M
You work in a future shop car installs dont you
i need help i have a wrangler and bought a new sirius, im having problems with the antenna, cause the roof is plastic, i have no signal at all, i bought a new antena, and signal is horrible, im really desperate, i have sirius on another car and is perfect
i have 2 new antenas and the same problem
What did you call that tape you stuck under the antenna to protect the paint, and where can you buy it?
It's a protective film from 3M. Most auto parts stores will carry something like it.
You'll have to pay for the subscription.
You ever paint the antenna to match the car color?
+SeanOMatic Never tried it. No one has ever made the request for me to try. I don't like painting item if I can help it. I'm afraid the paint might start to crack or fade over time, so I try to avoid it.
Hello AnthonyJ350...may I ask what the name of that instrumental song is that's playing at the end of the video? Thanks! I originally watched your video to find out more about the Sirius system.
+Latrece Richardson Oh the artist is in the description. Just scroll down a bit.
Thanks!
Anthony thanks for the video, at 5:28 you have the unit installed in the center, how are you holding the unit up? I see the sleeve for the wiring on the right headed under the trim but no back support.
chvydrptop Ahh these are all jobs done in the shop for customers. I installed 2 metal straps behind wrapped in shrink tube for the one at 5:28.
chvydrptop If you look at my Instagram I install the odd SiriusXM tuner. Most of the ones I do is the module in the dash with an aftermarket headunit.
Ahhh so its a custom bracket holding up the radio you mean? I have a Durango same exact center, trying to figure out how to install it down there.
Yes, you'll have to take it apart, install a custom bracket then put the console back together.
Sick!!
How to set. Up my sirus radio
Could you just stick the antenna somewhere inside the windshield instead?
NickPookie93 In this day and age you would think so, their are internal antennas that you can install inside your dashboard... Just pay a little more money and get a better antenna.
What voltage tester were u using in this video?
Power Probe
Anthony, can you recommend an install shop in Houston, Texas USA?
Sorry I don't know any shops on the Texas area. Bet questions to ask are: How long has the tech been doing it for, ask to see some picture of previous work and if they provide lifetime warranty on their work. Hope you find a good shop!
Any BestBuy can do it. Maybe Pricey
Any advice on a convertible?
Place the antenna on the trunk instead if you can.
how much is all of that?
Where do you buy one of those?
+ButterFox HD Most electronic retailers will have it.
Yes im majorly disappointed. Have the sirius xm home radio with the small square antenna. Shelled out 44 dollars to subscribe and activate. Tuned to channel 1. Have moved the antenna through my windows on both sides of my apartment after they sent activation signal. Still ZERO on satellite and terrestrial signal indicator. Will somebody tell me whats going on?????
Bert Davis What area do you live in? Did you talk to SiriusXM?
AnthonyJ350 No. Thats my next move. And i live on the gulf coast of Florida 32570 zip code.
You lost me at soldering, but nice video.
It wouldn't be cool if it were easy.
what if it asks for a CODE???
Did you call try calling Sirius XM about the code? Is your sat radio unit used?
Why the hell would I go through all this trouble to install a $50 sirius radio.....
Lol im with tha comment below ridiculous for all the trouble
escucharia radio estambul y canada y london jajaajaj
Thanks!
En español
I'll request to have sub titles put in.
That is not an easy instalation..For every video i have viewed it looks like a real headache. And i regret i just ordered one..
holy shit this is wayyy to much work
Most people are too dumb and stupid to rear the owners manual that comes with most products
Ya I'll have to agree. A lot of people are lazy.
SiriusXM will never get my money. They promise a free trial with your new vehicle. You never get your free trial but they start sending you discounted pay offers. Fuck SirrusXM radio.
Sorry to hear your experience. When you purchased your vehicle did you ask the dealer to give you your free trial or reactivate it? I've been in a bunch of new cars with the trial working (I'm test driving a 2017 Pathfinder currently.
Don't waste your time with #SiriusXM Radio the worst customer service. Don't fall for their "promotion". Classic bait and switch.
Not worth all that
What, good workmanship and minimizing exposed wiring?
worst instructional video of all time
UndrRatedEnt Well I don't know about of all time. It's a guide, if you don't get it did you try reading the owner's manual or consider having a professional do the job?
