I got so immersed in this song that I forgot I was listening to it for like, 30 seconds and instead just felt it. Amazing stuff.

So cinematic. I can't remember if you said you've written scores for films/shows, but if not, the production houses should be banging on your door!

Lots of Rick's early videos on his main channel were about composing for film. Those were among the videos that first got me to subscribe. I wasn't specifically interested in film music, but Rick's early videos gave me a whole new level of appreciation for film music, and made connections between what (little!) I knew about modes and harmony, and using music to evoke moods in film contexts. -Tom

I really love your music, Rick, and I'm so glad you've been inspired to bring it back into your current youtube creations. It would be wonderful if you would consider doing a video on your compositional process - on how you go about composing!

Great compositional snippets Rick! Gee, I wish they were parts of a multi movement piano concerto we could buy! I think Western classical music could be revived with just a bit more emphasis on a wider variety of scale forms, and new approaches to musical form that are somehow more reflective of and responsive to our experience of living in the contemporary world. I think I’ll try to make it happen in my own way. 😊

Wow! What a beautiful scale and what an amazing composition and performance. Plenty of us would buy a whole album of your pieces, Rick. Limited edition vinyl, jack up the price, fund the channel. I'd be in for several copies, as they would make wonderful gifts, too.

It's crazy how Beato just busts these out to simply demonstrate different modes and yet it sounds like it has more depth and emotional substance to it than just about any top 10 song I can think of from the last decade or two

The Harmonic Major Scale was used a lot back in the day. It contains all four chord types; Major, minor, Augmented and diminished. Augmented is on the sixth degree, diminished on the seventh. In addition on the third degree is the Phrygian, b4; which is both The Hendrix and The Taxman Chord. This is the scale that produces George Harrison's naughty chords. In addition it covers all three points of the Augmented triangle in The Circle of Fifths. 1,3,#5 = 1, 3 (Phrygian,b4) and b6. Sadly it has been overlooked in modern times.
