One of the nicest old Cruisers I've seen in a long while. Congratulations! Remember owning one is like owning a horse. You have to feed and care for it and take it to the vet quite often. What a wonderful representation of its era! Enjoy!
The issue with your passenger seat is likely the plastic gears under the seat are stripped and binding. This is a common problem with 80's as they age. They are fairly easy to replace but you will need to completely remove the seat to replace the gears. There are companies online that have replacement gears. I purchased mine from Gamiviti.
Hello l think you so much guys for showing us these videos.could you please send me the price and the e-mail address to contact you the phone number to keep contact the company .thank you so much!
Just a heads up, your turning issue (tire scuffing) is the viscus coupler in the transfer case, it’s bad. My 96 had the same issue, replaced it and no issues. A lot of people go with the part time 4wd kit, others just take it out although I do not recommend that.
I appreciate the comment Ted, thank you. I almost didn’t upload this video since it came across like I was just whining about typical “old car” things.
I have an 80 and a 200 and have 4 kids lol. We are very similar in that the little “issues” on the 80 irk me. My 200 is pristine. My 80 has bad paint that I see daily. I just had to appreciate the cool factor that comes with owning it and realize the bruises are part of it. You can go museum or bruiser. Easier to pick bruiser on the 80.Check out Witts End,Toyotapartsdeal and cruiserparts. They make it possible to make it back to perfect on the small stuff
One other HUGE issue with the 80 that I’m surprised you didn’t mention.. the back seats have no room. This thing feels like a 4 runner in comparison to the room of the 200. 4 adult men can not comfortably sit in an 80
Whenever you’re ready to sell. Im here. Once you get the radio working, the antenna should go up and down. You push the power button on the radio and the antenna protrudes, unless the motor is bad.
You might need to take it to a mechanic. Might be something wrong with your engine. Gearbox or transfer case? I have a 1997 80 series also and when I put my foot down it just drops a gear and gets up and goes. Not like a v8 but still pretty good. Never had any chirping tire issues when steering in a car park. Just turns no problem
So what did u do with this 80. All of that can be fixed. Need to rebuild your front knuckles. How does this drive compared to the lx600? Handle as well besides power and sqeaks? No comparison in off and on road manners I'm sure
Lovely 80! Key - did you try pushing the key in when turning off past ACC? Steering wheel of centre - adjust the relay rod to centre it, its not necessarily an alignment issue Power issue - may have incorrect timing (should be 3deg BTDC) - these things although large do get up and boogie when the pedal is pressed😁 - give it new plugs, air filter, oil change etc as well whilst there Windows - clean the tracks and lubricate with silicone all of the sliding points - its normal for them to build up dust & stuff that slows the window operation - i just did mine recently and its helps alot Antenna - it may be related to the radio not powering on - there are many double DIN units these days that fit in perfectly, look factory and are plug n play with adaptor harnesses PS, keep in mind this car will still be going when youre 'new' cars are long gone
Hey thanks a ton for the great insight, I really appreciate it man. 🙏🏼 I’ll look into each of these things. Hopefully get it up to snuff in no time. =]
It shouldn’t be chirping if it’s working properly. Mine does not chirp unless the center dif is locked. My 80 has the best turning radius of any vehicle I’ve owned.
The Series 80 should be a weekend fun toy not a daily driver. It’s a 25~ year old mechanical vehicle. It’s going to need fixes and have annoyances. Part of the fun is figuring out how to solve and repair the problems which will provide some pride into the build and let you appreciate the truck even more… I had a 91 Bronco that I worked on for 2 years. I mechanical restored it, recovered seats, installed new carpet, and fixed a ton of small issues. I cussed it often but ultimately enjoyed the experience… I have 3 kids so I know you are busy with your 4 kiddos and job. Enjoy it for a while, build it up, or just send it down the road. The series 80 are becoming very in demand especially ones with the 3 lockers. Think about buying a rugged bound roof rack, lift it, and add some wheels and tires. 🤷🏼♂️ slee makes awesome bumpers for the 80.
@@UntamedMotorsMy 1998 80 series has been my daily driver for the last ten years. More reliable and comparatively cheaper to maintain than a new vehicle. My previous daily driver was a FJ 45, same story.
Don’t think a guy named Preston speaks for the entire Toyota community. Sorry YOU feel that way. Move along. 😉 PS: don’t “Like” your own comment, it’s not a good look.
Normally these type of videos are soon followed by a “why I’m selling my….” video. I give this 80 series a few more weeks and it’s gone.
Lol you’ve learned the Pac-Man pattern 👌 👏
Yeah it has been a week should be sold soon 😅
@@shortythefrenchie yeah far too long lol
Old mate shouldn’t own old cars. Lol. The cars mint bro.

Nice to see one that hasn't been modified with a lift, wheels and big tires. Fix those issues and enjoy.

This is super helpful, thank you. 🙏🏼
New scissor motor and white silicone grease. Did mine in April. One of the endless tasks. Cheers!
Oh thanks a lot for bringing me up in the video I really appreciate that now you make you know Uncle look like a cluck cluck
Lol 😂 sorry! It’s an easy fix!

Your 80 is in fantastic condition. Very well done on keeping it this clean. That green carpet is a little weird though.

I just baselined my 1FZ including a new headgasket. I agree. It’s not sports car fast but it has plenty of juice to get up to speed.
Great Video Untamed and thanks for being honest 🤟🏼
My pleasure, Mike! Thanks for tuning in as always.

How is it off-road?
Amazing wheel articulation with this solid front and rear axle setup 👌
Congrats 🎉 ! . It's a likeable vehicle, believed it or not , I liked it anytime you want to get rid of it ! . Let me know please ! . Okayed..
Why were the carpet and seat covers replaced?
To make it look new again

Unless one of the older owners already binded the diff
Yeah I need to give it a look
That’s the joy of having a older car. You can keep tinkering with it haha
Also, let me get that 200😅
You can have first grabs before it goes live on BaT! =]
Finding fault with a 25 yr old vehicle is absurd
Even more so that it is an 80 series landcruiser😅

I agree with you. Needs to be considered a “project vehicle” to some degree 👌

You going to put the Sequoia wheels on this thing or what?
May have to get creative.. I thought the bore size matched up but it doesn’t…
@@UntamedMotors No!
I would be really happy to buy that off you 😂
I’ll sell it. Just shoot me a DM on Instagram if you’re serious.
Perhaps you’re more suited to a Tesla.😂
You need a proper baseline
More quirks, more content for the channel. 😮
Haha this is true 👌
I’d sell that and get a new Defender
Those new defenders are 🔥
Send it to TLC for a LT4 swap haha !!!
Haha now we’re talkin! 🙌
LS swap will solve problem #1
Here we go. 😂
Lol 😆
Ls 6.0 swap will keep you from selling it 😂
Haha that is for sure 🙌 💪
23 kids in 12 minutes?
Man, if u think that's slow youv never driven the fj60.
i preferred to buy a latest model...
Toyota guys no longer take you seriously. You will never push Toyotas limits all you care about is resale value.
