  • Aberaeron Vintage Show was spectacular this year. Classic cars, live steam, stationary engines and an impressive tractor parade! This video includes a Field Marshall engine start by hand! Oh and I try my hand at reversing a roller with a classic tractor. There's also a Fordson Super Major with a Detroit Diesel engine!
The show was organised by the Cardi Cranks. Well done folks! Roll on 2025. The location is Llanerchaeron House.
HubNut merchandise is available from hubnut.org (store offline until 22nd August)

One of my local farmers has and regularly uses a Field Marshall, an earlier oily rag restoration than that one with the blank 12 bore cartridge starting system. One turns it over a few times on the crank handle, set it just past TDC, remove the cartridge firing pin holder and old now burnt cartridge from the head, insert new one and screw holder onto the head, pick up a hammer, wrench or large rock and whack it. With luck it bursts into life often not in winter and the process repeated.

    • @HubNut

I believe this one has that option. The commentator joked that Huw was too tight to buy cartridges!

I like that the 'barn find' Capri Ghia is doing its rounds at the show and the second Austin food truck you looked at, I remember there was one converted from a mobile library that did similar work on a beach near me for about 20 years. The owners drove it down there initially, but after a few years they pulled the powertrain and parked it permanently on the spot until the salt spray got the better of the bodywork.

I was a car show with cars of similar vintage ( 70, 80, early 90's ) by a beach by a lake in 30C sunshine 8 days ago. They did a best in show. The Jaguar V12's were there. And they did a "best exhaust sound" with us attendees walking around the cars and hearing them revving. Great fun. Entry price : £1.50. A beer ? £1.50. Everyone was happy. Then a dip in the lake ! You seem to have some excellent vintage vehicle shows in the Wales. There aren't many in the Midlands now that I know of now. Only a few at places like Statfold Barn Railway or at preserved railways. We had a vintage vehicle day at the Severn Valley Railway at the same time this show was on but that is arranged differently as all the stations along the line have different vehicles at them. One has steam and vintage cars and vehicles (Kidderminster) and others have cars bar Arley which usually has tractors and commercial vehicles.

Hi Ian and Carly. I enjoyed the tractor parade (as a Townie) A friend has a Field Marshall and the demo'd the start up procedure for me. (I showed it in a video). The decompression lever fits in a scroll on the flywheel and once you get it cranking it winds itself off the end and reinstated the compression and away it goes. You can see your man forgot to set it and wasn't able to overcome the compression on the first turn. He then set it and was able to crank it and start it. My mate also demo'd a donkey motor start on a small Cat tractor. I showed that as well in another vid. I like the variety at those country shows. Top stuff. Mart.
