Pacing, maybe? If I’m right about where this scene was supposed to go, it seems like it would’ve been clunky to have this immediately after the conversation with Nakia, and wouldn’t have worked after the scene where Nakia, Shuri, and the Queen go on the run, so keeping the pace of the film tight, the tone consistent, and the emotional pressure on, this couldn’t be fit into the final product

This clip make me like Okoye more. She is a general with a firm belief to serve her country and protect her people. Meanwhile, she is a friend of T’Challa and love of W’kabi. The complicated and emotional reactions and thoughts make her like a real people, like everyone who comes across various dilemmas in life. Such a good movie.

This scene is pretty important and should’ve made the cut. First of all, it highlights why W’Kabi *really* turned his back on T’Challa (imo they didn’t insist on that point enough). Secondly, it gives us a better understanding as to why W’Kabi threw his weapon down when Okoye asked him two. Their relationship wasn’t exploited enough so it seemed as if he gave up pretty easily. Overall great acting

when the directors cut comes out, that's the version I want. This scene should have been left in. All they showed was Wakabi and Okoye going against each other, but never showed the conversation they had prior. This may be off topic, but in relationships, people don't talk enough, they just go at each other and never have a sit down conversation about their differences. In the movie, it looked like they just said F-it, I don't like him (Wakabi) and he's my king deal with it (Okoye) without talking about it. This scene was needed.

This should have never been deleted, many "critics" were complaining that Killmonger stole Klaue duirng the interrogation and all they had to do was explain to W'Kabi what had happened on top of the fact that W'kabi choosing to switch sides seemed so quickly done. But as seen here W'kabi didn't care because he was so focused on getting revenge on Klaue that resentment and hatred had been eating up inside him for 30 years. T'challa failing to get that done proved and cemented in W'Kabi mind that he wasn't fit to be the ruler. Okoye bringing up the fact they had him captured but gave him to the CIA, just pisses him off even more and furthers his disillusion.
Also anyone else see the irony that Daniel Kaluuya who played Chris from _Get Out_ is W'kabi and Michael B Jordan who played Oscar Grant from _Fruitvale Station_ is Killmonger/N'Jadka? If anyone has a right to be pissed, its them.

He should’ve had a bigger role. He’s such a good actor. Daniel and Danai really bounced off each really well. Their range in this scene.

    • @jasontodd42

Morpheus It was because of where they were going to have it placed. It was gonna be during the T’Challa recovering thanks to M’Baku, but it would’ve flowed incorrectly.

How this was not in the film is still beyond me. Great movie but these two characters are married, now on opposite sides, youd HAVE to put this scene in. Awesome job by both these two.

I love this scene so much, I wish they had been able to keep it in. I like W'Kabi even though I didn't agree with him turning on T'Challa so easily. This scene gave more insight as to why. The anger and pain in his words and even in his eyes is so intense I really feel for him. Adding to that the conflict that Okoye is faced with obviously not in favor of the new king but keeping her loyalty to the throne and Wakanda and the conflict between her husband. I love the MCU and the clear love and respect these actors have for the characters they play regardless of how big or little the part.

Even though the drama between the actors is great on display here, I can see why they left this scene out: it kind of cements W'Kabi as a vengeful character, and maybe Coogler (Or Marvel) didn';t want that. W'Kabi's obviously in a Wakandan prison right now, and I don't think we'll see him again til the second Black Panther film, if or when it happens.
They definitely left it out for some specific reasons, even though it kind of highlights the really clear conflict between him and Okoye, and the theme of duty to the Wakandans (Okoye) and just plain simple revenge (W'Kabi's motivation).
If W'Kabi had jsut calmed down and trusted the people around him instead of being hell-bent on killing Klaue, he probably would've still been the commander of the Border Tribe. But the fact that Klaue murdered his parents is still a fresh wound, so his anger is understandable.
Im kind of glad they left it out, BUT I still have a a feeling that W'Kabi can be redeemed. If this scene was left in the film, everyone would've seen him as a true blue villain, and Im not sure that's what they were intending, so this scene's probably better left cut.
Also, Danile Kaluya and Danai Gurira acted their asses off in every frame of Black Panther. can't wait to see it again on Blu-Ray!

That was my feeling as well. W'Kabi seemed more intent on seeking revenge, even to the detriment of his people's traditions. He told Okoye that he wanted his children to be conquerors, which fit with the mindset of Kilmonger.
The fact he wouldn't listen when Okoye tried to explain how they did capture Klaue and Kilmonger rescued him, showed me a different side of W'Kabi.
That mindset made him into a bigger douche to me, especially the part about him wanting Okoye to leave the Dora Milaje.

I'm not sure if it's just me but if this scene was left in the film I think he'd still be redeemable in the next film if they wanted to bring him back- i just find it more interesting and compelling when a person is so intense and strong minded in their belief/decision is brought to an understanding/agreement (to differ from their original beliefs) by another character or situation. Like, it's just more realistic in terms of how people interact with each other.
To me, the fact that they didn't expand on W'kabi's mindset (no matter how douchy it may have come across) after they had that little scene with him and T'challa being all 'we've been friends for how long now? too long' and 'you need to bring Klaue back to me, promise me' (like really he got the king to promise him that's some kind of deep relationship right??), really and I mean REALLY pulled me right out of the movie lmao I was like what???
Tbh makes him feel even more irredeemable because it feels like ye he betrayed him on purpose with NO reasoning.
I like him being douchy about wanting his kids to be conquerors, wanting Okoye to leave the Dora, ignoring the context in which Klaue got away- because it makes him a character with motives and reasoning (even tho it's motive and reasoning we don't like) rather than a character used just to initiate plot.
I'm sure they weighed the pros and cons before cutting the scene tho so I'm sure they have their own reasoning like you mentioned.

Marvel really dropped the ball on this one. I think for the over turning of T’Challa this scene would have definitely added some depth to that moment.

They should've left this in. Here we have a warrior saying she doesn't want to raise her children to be conquerors indicating they're not one in the same. I'm guessing bcuz the character believes you only use force & demands when necessary. I find it very significant considering their positions.
