This is the real mix. On the OST you hardly hear the woodwinds. I was like, wait, where's the Williams Orchestration, but here you hear it. I think the brass were mic-ed way too loud on the Album. This is perfect.
Everyone is saying this is better than the original score. I think the explanation is as simple as the Boston Pops is a better orchestra than the Hollywood orchestra. Same goes for comparing the FA score to the other Star Wars scores. The Hollywood orchestra just isn't as good as the London Symphony.
Let's just hope his score for "The Last Jedi" is just as exciting as this. I loved the score for "The Force Awakens"but it sounded like a Harry Potter score half of the time, plus the recording of the orchestra during the score made it sound smaller than it looked.
The score was recorded with 80 musicans, whereas the original score were recorded with more than a hundred musicians. Particularly striking is the use of percussion : in The Force Awakens, he usually uses only regular percussion instrument.
GGbreizh only 80? Last time I looked it up, I thought their were 90 people in the orchestra during the soundtrack recording sessions. Wow, no wonder it didn't sound quite as big as the LSO.
That is what I read, I am not sure of the relevance of this information. But I was quite surprised anyway. In the soundtrack of the Force Awakens I was also disappointed by the sound mix. It sounded dry, the brass had a digital sound, the percussions sounded oddly.
GGbreizh I need to ask you , but how in the world did you get the Boston Pops to sound so clear? I thought people stopped recording their concerts long ago.
Yes, this was an interview in the daily mirror. But it was obviously a fake... A sort of parody of what he had said in previous interviews. But overall it did not make sense... Never trust such newspaper... It is certainly true, nevertheless, that he does not watch a film, after its premiere.

one of the best versions ever, thanks
5:25 Tbh I like this version of Scherzo for X-Wings a lot better than the soundtrack version. Idk, so much faster and more exciting.
When conducting this particular piece, Williams indeed sped up the tempo in comparison with the soundtrack version. It is usually the contrary.
Very wide and "bassy" recording. Nice. Suite performed very good as well, i really like it.

Carl Williams it wasn’t even The Hollywood Orchestra they just hosted a bunch of musicians. It’s called a freelance orchestra.

Excuse me, I mean the orchestra on the soundtrack sounded smaller than it looked, my bad.

It's interesting that John Williams said he has never actually watched any of the movies, aside from the scoring/recording sessions...
That is not true, he was at the premiere of the films.
Well he stated it in a recent interview - Those aren't my words, they are his.

I never watched a Star Wars movie, I only listen to the music.
In my opinion, TFA's soundtrack is the weakest one for a Star Wars movie yet.
what's wrong with you
It is.
Your opinion is wrong. Far more cohesive than the mass of sound that was the Revenge of the Sith. Fantastic thematic development and integration.
Wrong.
Lol. classy as trash.
